This mornings USA Today reports all of the GOP candidates except California Rep. Duncan Hunter will gather in Myrtle Beach today for a debate sponsored by Fox News Channel.
Yesterday, your humble blogger appeared on Foxs Your World With Neil Cavuto to dispute the latest hyperspin in this hypermedia age: the notion that illegal immigration is suddenly no longer an issue in this presidential campaign. Of course, its just a variation by the Open Borders Crowd on the same old theme. After the 2006 Midterm it was framed this way: GOP Loses Congress Because of Failure to Pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform, even though Harry Mitchell had success running to my right on the issue. Then last summer it was Senate Crafts Responsible Grand Bargain for Immigration Reform, except that the so-called bargain was nothing more than anmesty and was overwhelmingly rejected by the American People. Now this headline is being pushed: Tancredo Out, Hunter Fading, McCain Wins NH: Illegal Immigration Dead.
As is often the case, a reality check is in order. First, it is very difficult to go from the House to the White House; in fact, only one sitting Member of Congress has gone directly from Capitol Hill to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. James A. Garfield accomplished that feat in 1880, but sadly became the second Presdent to be assassinated, just six months into his term. (Gerald Ford served as Nixons second Vice President between his days as a Congressman and his elevation to the Presidency, while the Jimmy Smits character on The West Wingthe liberal Congressman elected President is a work of leftist TV fiction.)
But when it comes to the other chamber of our bicameral national legislature, perception outweighs reality. The widely held view (shared by at least 98 of the 100 people serving in the worlds most exclusive club) is that the Senate is the ticket to the White House, except that only two sitting senators have been elected to the presidency Warren G. Harding in 1920 and John F. Kennedy in 1960 and like Garfield, neither survived their term. (Again, while Truman, LBJ, and Nixon all served in the Senate, none of them moved directly from the Office of U.S. Senator to the Oval Office.)
While his primary win in New Hampshire is a testimony to his tenacity, it remains doubtful at this point that John McCain will become President. Yes, McCain overcame a near death political experiencethe squandering of a hefty campaign treasury with an unwieldy, big spending campaign staffnot to mention his precipitous drop in popularity in August, courtesy of the amnesty bargainand not only survived but thrived on Tuesday, thanks to Granite State Republicans (not to mention the Independents and Democrats who crossed over to vote for him).
That crossover appeal attracts my long time friend, Sharon. In the e-mail she sent me yesterday that I in read on the air, she wrote John McCain is the only Republican with a chance who can pull heavily from the Independents. God knows theres a bunch of them now. My brother even changed his registation.
She continues: I think you are wrong that illegal immigration is the most important issue to Americans today. I truly believe that it is terrorism and that all people do not connect this to the border issues. Who am I to tell you that I think youre wrong? Well, Im an old friend who will ALWAYS tell you what I think you should hear not what you want to hear. Of course, I dont agree with everything John McCain says but I believe that times dictate decisions.
Well.
Since Ive written an entire book on why illegal immigration adversely affects national security and virtually every other issue of concern these days, let me concentrate on the other major theme of Sharons missive: McCains electability. Despite his plunge in recent Arizona polls that predict him losing to Gov. Janet Napolitano in a mythical matchup for the U.S. Senate in 2010, I do believe that McCain will win the upcoming Arizona primary on Feb.5. However, what happens in the other 20-plus states on that Super Tuesday, and what transpires in the handful of states that hold primaries prior to that date will determine just who will emerge as the Republican nominee.
To base a primary vote on electability instead of ideas and principles seems to me a reduction of your rights via rationalization.
No one will ever completely agree with every position that a candidate takes as Sharon put it, there is no perfect candidate, but I believe my vote should go to the candidate who comes closest to espousing the philosophy I share.
That brings me back to Duncan Hunter.
No, he wont be on the stage tonight in the South Carolina GOP Debate, and his name appears nowhere near the top of the polls but he supported tax cuts, did a masterful job as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and stands for enforcement first on illegal immigration. Thats why hell get my vote and my support for as long as he is in it even if he doesnt win it!
Well see who becomes the GOP nominee but right now, Ill avoid the pre-emptive bandwagon for McCain.
Besides, I would feel lonely in that crowd.
DH endorsement PING.

If enough conservatives quit worrying about celeb status, we might actually get a guy who is conservative nominated.
Thanks for the ping! And thank you J.D.!! One of the good guys!
One of the very few real good guys.
Well, it’s good to see that JD hasn’t sold out!
Terry Anderson and Lores Rizkalla have both endorsed Duncan hunter
Both are conservative talk show hosts on KRLA in Los Angeles
Terry talks about the illegal alien invasion and Lores talks about the war on terrorism and the Moslems...
How come J.D. Hayworth won’t, at least, try to get elected again to his former congressional seat? It’s a seat that does have a good chance to become a Republican seat again.
Cute.
Thanks pissant.
My,My , Fancy meeting you here Hehehe!
It is good to see. This year is making for some real eye opening revelations about the supposed conservative media and supposed conservative politicians and their endorsements.
Duncan Hunter is my candidate!
:)
Lores came on after Terry
She’s on LIVE talking about Hillary..She found her voice LOL
Did you know that Murdoch’s lefty kids will be taking control of Fox sometime in the next year or so?
“..he supported tax cuts, did a masterful job as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and stands for enforcement first on illegal immigration. ..”
And that’s just for starters. Hunter is head and shoulders above the rest.
ANd hasn’t ASK endorsed him as well? We need to get them all together to do a press conference, with JD, Ann C, and Phyllis Schlafly & Yeager. Now that would be an event.
Some people are saying... You have to vote for so and so if we hope to beat Hillary...
But vote your concience...
LOL
I like Lores, but I had to free up my media player to work on a project.
Yes Andrea Shea King had Duncan on last sunday night
it was a great interview...
:)
Visited his site and left a comment thanking him.
“To base a primary vote on electability instead of ideas and principles seems to me a reduction of your rights via rationalization”
Couldn’t have said it better. That’s the problem. What is great about Duncan Hunter is he stays on issues and has not waivered one bit. He will bring America back to it’s foundation and values.
I’m now listening to “The Truckin’ Bozo” and a caller said he likes Duncan Hunter, and why aren’t they building the fence.
If YOU want to call the show, it is on every night from midnight to 5 a.m., but like most national talk shows, it’s easier to get through if you call early.
The number is 888-860-8785.
I called myself awhile back, and asked the talk show host “Steve” if I could give Hunter’s website over the air, and he said SURE!

Hunter fever...CATCH IT!
:)

DUNCAN HUNTER FOR PRESIDENT.
I think it got put on hold.
But we've heard that tall tale before!
“How come J.D. Hayworth wont, at least, try to get elected again to his former congressional seat? Its a seat that does have a good chance to become a Republican seat again.”
He’s doing radio and other media.
I think he will run for office again but not right now. Hopefully governor, and then President.
JD is great.
I saw him a few weeks ago an Arizona Federation of Taxpayers event. Just showing up got him a standing ovation from the crowd of some 500.
Such a simple and logical statement, yet it seems like profound wisdom in today's political climate.
I like that tagline. That is just the kind of thing these so-called Conservatives who blindly follow polls and pundits need to hear. I will try to get a graphic whipped up so we can post it on every thread there is a sheeple posting ‘1% Duncan’ and ‘snowballs chance in hell’ rhetoric. I think I got banned at Hannity, so every place but there :)
Just doing the job the lame-stream media REFUSES to do! Thanks for posting the links!
:)
“And I Imagine the guy isn’t too crazy about the Mexican Truck Invasion either.”
I have heard the truckers frequently worry about that - losing their jobs, getting reduced pay, the DANGER, etc.
I also mentioned that when I called the show, and told how Hunter was fighting against Mexican drivers coming here.
Well now...that can be a good thing.
A graphic with a lamb being led to the slaughter with collar and chain would be great!!!
I suck BIG TIME at doing that stuff though.
Ping me if you get it done. Thanx
“Visited his site and left a comment thanking him.”
Did you notice the McCain spammers there?
I also mentioned that when I called the show, and told how Hunter was fighting against Mexican drivers coming here.
The Teamsters have been opposed to Mexican trucks coming across the border. Mexican truckers take away union drivers jobs. The Teamsters should be endorsing Duncan Hunter if they weren't in the tank for the Democrats. I am a member but I gotta tell you, they infuriate me.
They did endorse Ronald Reagan. One of the few unions to do so.
“Did you notice the McCain spammers there?”
Yes, I did, that’s why I added my comments.
“The Teamsters should be endorsing Duncan Hunter if they weren’t in the tank for the Democrats.”
It looks like the Dem Party trumps the workers that the Teamsters should be protecting.
I added my comments, too.
WooHoo Nana! You got to talk to the MAN!!!
Thx for the ping, and thank you J.D Hayworth!
Teamsters also support drilling in ANWR yet still support the Dems. However, they both do agree on opposing tax cuts. Like I said, infuriating.
Me too.

“Like I said, infuriating.”
Now on the Truckin’ Bozo, they’re talking about a deadly accident, due to unsafe Mexican trucks. I don’t know when the accident happened, though. “Steve” said there was a story about it on CNN.
“Me too.”
Well, I’m in good company. :)
