U.S. baby boomlet bucks Europe's fertility rut
MSNBC ^ | 1/15/08 | Staff

ATLANTA - Bucking the trend in many other wealthy industrialized nations, the United States seems to be experiencing a baby boomlet, reporting the largest number of children born in 45 years.

The nearly 4.3 million births in 2006 were mostly due to a bigger population, especially a growing number of Hispanics. That group accounted for nearly one-quarter of all U.S. births. But non-Hispanic white women and other racial and ethnic groups were having more babies, too.

An Associated Press review of birth numbers dating to 1909 found the total number of U.S. births was the highest since 1961, near the end of the baby boom. An examination of global data also shows that the United States has a higher fertility rate than every country in continental Europe, as well as Australia, Canada and Japan. Fertility levels in those countries have been lower than the U.S. rate for several years, although some are on the rise, most notably in France.

While 1 million anchor babies is a scary thought, I am happy to see that women in general are coming to their senses by keeping their babies.

“But non-Hispanic white women and other racial and ethnic groups were having more babies, too.”

It’s not just anchor babies.

And finally - most of the “anchor babies” are assimilating into American culture. The Europeans’ aren’t.

I am guessing that a lot are the children of illegal immigrants.

Legal or illegal, the huge influx of Hispanic immigrants is fueling this.

The meat of the matter:

‘Fertility rates often rise among immigrants who leave their homelands for a better life. For example, the rate among Mexican-born women in the U.S. is 3.2, but the overall rate for Mexico is just 2.4, according to the Pew Hispanic Center, a Washington-based research organization.’

‘Fertility rates were also relatively high for other racial and ethnic groups. The rate rose to 2.1 for blacks and nearly 1.9 for non-Hispanic whites in 2006, according to the CDC.’

You need around a 2.1 birth rate to cover your loses, the illegals are coming here and dropping off Citizens. While Americans are raising pets and not raising children.

Pet parks are replacing children parks in the my area while we continue to allow illegal immigrants rape us.

National suicide at its best.

The question, not asked because it's not PC, "how many of the hispanic babies were born to American citizens?

I don’t think it’s just hispanics, either.

We live in Vermont, a hotbed of hippie liberals, yet there is an absolute tidal wave of babies in our part of town. That’s just anectodal evidence, sure, but I’ve seen glimpses of the same thing elsewhere.

We did our part, too, with our twelfth grandchild last year.

That’s the best part - the conservatives are having kids, the liberals aren’t.

As for me, I would be a horrible parent - so I have a cat instead. :D Better that than to ruin a kid and produce a liberal. :P

Babies are cheap when you don’t have to pay the hospital and don’t have to pay taxes and you get welfare, free housing, EBT cards and WICK programs. The USA is no more. I’m glad I have no kids to pass this travesty on to.

So, if a baby is Hispanic, is he or she an anchor baby???

Oh, my, how low the debate has fallen.

My children will be natural-born US citizen, because I’M A US CITIZEN, and I refuse to have my children lumped into the anchor baby category.

That’s why I rarely post here anymore.

No, of course not. If you came legally, you are welcome and have as many babies as you want as long as YOU pay for them. The county of illegal immigrants in not important. Its just that at the moment, Mexico is supplying the majority of illegal immigrants. You are WELCOME and your kids as well!

Since only one in four are hispanic at all, and many of those are undoubtedly full citizens or perfectly legal residents, I doubt your guess.

Morals are voluntary. Men are free to change them at the drop of a hankie. Determinism is for geology.

"Many" needs a source?

The hispanic population of the US is on the order of 40 million. The bureau of the census estimate as of July 2004 was 41.3 million. Illegal aliens are only a quarter of that number - a third as the highest outside estimate.

Actually, it is about free men and women deciding what they think is good, and the next generation taking shape from that. Just lots of people doing it, and then pundits with no control over the matter trying to pretend it has to go this way or that because they don't like the objective uncertainty that reality creates.

I have no military service but I know that many of the toughest, bravest, and most loyal Marines are Hispanic. That point is not lost on most Freepers.

I once knew an Army girl originally from Caracas Venezuela.

She was a whiner, get over, slacker.

Does she count as a Hispanic?

Even though I liked her, she sucked as a Soldier.

Your real point however is well taken. No argument from here.

“most of the “anchor babies” are assimilating into American culture...”

You couldn’t be more wrong. Come see me in San Antonio and I’ll show you first hand how they bring the barrio with them.

Furthermore, Hispanics do not abort their children and never have. They would lose too much in welfare to do that. Never mind they have not learned: “don’t breed ‘em if you can’t feed ‘em.”

No, it WASN'T - until 1965.

Prior to 1965, the official immigraion policy of the United States was to admit people of European ancestry, almost exclusively (I said, "almost"). It was VERY difficut for, say, Chinese or Indians to get here.

Prior to 1965, official US immigration policies were (well, what the heck, might as well say it) exclusionary and discriminatory. As they SHOULD be, in my opinion. The underlying reason was to limit immigration to those who would resemble, and who would preserve, the traditional color and culture of the nation of the founders.

It was after the immigration reform act of 1965 that the multicultural floodgates opened. We are seeing the results of that, only now.

My current reading material is "Day of Reckoning", by Patrick J. Buchanan. Here's a relevant excerpt:
=======
"Democracy and fee markets do not a country make. Constitutions, no matter how eloquent, abstract ideas no matter how lovely, do not create a nation. A nation writes its constitution. A nations drafts its own birth certificate. What makes a people and a nation is a common and unique homeland and people, history and heritage, language and literature, song and story, traditions and customs."
=======

We are seeing that common culture, heritage, and ethnicity ripped to shreds right before our eyes, encouraged by the powers-that-be.

I realize your opinion may be different. That's mine.

- John
