Talk radio award revoked[Bob Grant]
The Washington Times ^ | 17 Jan 2008 | Kara Rowland

Posted on 01/16/2008 9:58:54 PM PST by BGHater

A radio industry magazine yesterday withdrew a lifetime-achievement award to conservative radio talk-show host Bob Grant, citing racial remarks he made in the 1990s.

Radio & Records Inc. had planned to recognize the longtime conservative commentator with its 2008 Lifetime Industry Achievement Award in the District in March. Mr. Grant, 78, airs weeknights on WABC-770 AM in New York City.

But yesterday, the Los Angeles publication said it would no longer honor him.

"R&R is sensitive to the diversity of our community and does not want the presentation of an award to Mr. Grant to imply our endorsement of past comments by him that contradict our values and the respect we have for all members of our community," Radio & Records said in a statement posted on its Web site.

Company executives yesterday declined to comment further on the decision to rescind the award.

Mr. Grant, revered by listeners as the father of talk radio, began his broadcasting career in Chicago in the 1940s.

He arrived in New York in 1970 and joined WABC in 1984. He was fired in 1996 in response to on-air comments he made about Commerce Secretary Ron Brown, who was killed in a plane crash.

Mr. Grant described himself as a "pessimist" for predicting that Mr. Brown had survived the crash.

If we start looking into everyone’s past, and then become offended at the slightest thing, there will be no people left to give awards to.

Bob Grant clearly was a trend setter in Talk Radio. Give the man his award!

What happened to free speech? What happened to “thinking”?

"..Mr. Grant said he found it ironic that the Rev. Al Sharpton is scheduled to speak at the R&R Talk Radio Seminar, where he would have received his award. .."

Al Sharpton

"..Freddie's Fashion Mart

In 1995, Sharpton led a protest in Harlem against the plans of a black Pentecostal Church, the United House of Prayer, which owned the retail property on 125th Street to ask Fred Harari, the Jewish tenant who operated Freddie's Fashion Mart to evict his longtime subtenant, a black record store, The Record Shack.[41][42][43] Sharpton told the protesters, "We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business."[44] On 1995-12-08, Roland J. Smith Jr., one of the protesters, entered the store with a gun and flammable liquid, shot several customers and set the store on fire. The gunman fatally shot himself, and seven store employees died of smoke inhalation.[45][46] Fire Department officials discovered that the store's sprinkler had been shut down, in violation of the local fire code.[47] Sharpton claimed that the perpetrator was an open critic of himself and his nonviolent tactics. Sharpton later expressed regret for making the racial remark, "white interloper," and denied responsibility for inflaming or provoking the violence.[12][48]..."

That is worse than anything Grant did, but Sharpton gets a pass.

With what he had on the Clinton gang might have guaranteed
he would not survive.

Within a year and a half of listening to Bob Grant, I went from being a moderate Dem to a Conservative. I will always remember him fondly.

I despised the way the media took what he said, twisted it around, and everyone (except his long-time listeners) jumped on the Bob Grant bashing bandwagon.

I remember the big stink over his calling a group of blacks "savages." What the commercial never told you was that this group was accused of viciously beating and gang-raping a girl. What they did WAS savage, and the term was more than appropriate to describe them. The commercial also never mentioned that Bob would have called a group of white "yutes" savages, too, if they had done the same thing, and had called white criminals even worse!

But no - that wouldn't enflame the PC masses now, would it?

This is really contemptible.

Bob Grant was a pioneer in talk radio, when talk radio wasn’t cool.

I hope some big name talent decides to boycott the R&R awards banquets.

Rush and Hannity should ask anyone in their audience to return to Nielson their rating books, as Nielson is the parent company to R&R.

At least Bob Grant wasn’t responsible for the deaths of people like Al Sharpton was. Or a deadbeat who doesn’t pay judgments, like Al Sharpton, Or a fake reverend of a non existent church like Al Sharpton.

At least the Nielsen and R&R executives no longer need the executive washroom key. They have nothing to pee with.

Is not identity politics a type of bigotry. What it plays on is group identities. Whether you give that group identity positive strokes or negative strokes, it is grouping people and giving them social handles in which to manipulate and control.

The blog http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com has more on
this including bits from Grant’s interview with Hannity;
also they reproduce an email sent to them by Mark Levin:

“I am disgusted with the mistreatment of Bob Grant. I am fed up with the censors, intimidators, and cowards in this business. Al Sharpton is a disgrace who has done nothing for radio. His record of lies, racism, and Jewish- hating antics is long and dangerous. Yet, the same people who invited him to appear at this event have now decided that Bob, a major force in this industry, is too controversial to receive an award. You don’t have to agree with all that Bob has ever said to know that this is a travesty.”

From http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com :

Hannity noted the hypocrisy of baggage- laden Al Sharpton being invited to speak at the convention while Grant is shut out. His response: “of course there’s a double standard!”

Grant told Hannity that he received a call earlier today and was told that an individual’s campaign had convinced R & R to pull the award. He wouldn’t name the person because Grant feels “he wants the publicity.”

“I went to their website and they took my likeness down,” Grant continued, “there was no mention of me, none whatsoever”

The comment wasn’t racist, it was rude and insensitive at worst. “Rude and Insensitive” is sort of the stock in trade of much of talk radio.

This piece of sorry news does not diminish Bob Grant one bit. Instead, it debases R and R.

Kind of reminds me of Churchill- “Yes madam, but in the morning I’ll be sober, and you’ll still be ugly!”.

Grant’s remark involved Ron Brown as a Clintonista, not a black man. Brown’s race was irrelevant to everything. R&R should be ashamed.

Mark Levin is boycotting this event. I hope more talkshow hosts do the same.

Here are my thoughts on the subject.

Bob Grant has done a heck of a lot more than anyone else in the world for those of us who have efforted to speak truth to and talk back to New World Order power. He is one of the many founders of the very radio fromat that provides us the concerned citizens with the electronic town hall forum and the 50000 watt radio bullhorn with which to do these things.

What Radio and Records did here a way beyond disgraceful. It is absolutely criminal and the suits at Nielson that are supporting this B.S. and C.F. need to be rounded up, graabbed by the collars and hauled off to a dungeon somewhere for this nonsense.

It is very clear that there are some elements of the New World Order who simply have problems with christians and conservatives. They simply don't like that there are those with a different worldview than they have and have a vision of seeing an America without christians and conservatives. They have made it known their mission is to see this vision through.

Al Sharpton is nothing but a sorry, lazy, miserable, good for nothing race baiting pimp who has made a life of amubalance chasing issues. This no good son of a b***h has done nothing for radio and has made a life out of running people down and destroying innocent people's lives and reputations. He is nothing but a bald faced pathological liar.

Radio and Records is a criminal enterprise that needs to be put out of business. A boycott of R&R and it's advertisers is clearly in order.

Regards......

What did Bob Grant say that was not true, I believe to this day Ron Brown was murdered at the order of Bill KKKlinton. Rumor had it that Brown had accepted a plea deal and was going to turn evidence against KKKlinton.

Add Lars Larson to Levin and Boortz, boycotting.

http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com

>>Meanwhile, a number of major talkers have now vowed to boycott the upcoming Radio & Records Talk Radio Seminar 2008, scheduled for Washington DC in March. Mark Levin, Neal Boortz and Lars Larson announced today that they will not attend as a result of the incident. Many more defections are expected...
>>Some are asking your Radio Equalizer whether those scheduled to appear on the panel with Al Sharpton will still be attending, including Jim Bohannon, Rusty Humphries, Jeff Katz of WBT/ Charlotte, Mancow, plus libtalkers Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz. Efforts to reach some of them have so far been unsuccessful.
