Having the world’s central banks control the amount of money has its problems, but nothing compared to the randomness of having it controlled by miners or inventors.

Interesting. Philosophically I like the idea of keeping the money supply away from government control, but I can see the practical difficulties involved.

Do you suppose a "third way" is possible? That is, is there some way to "privatize" the money supply without all of the problems posed by a gold standard?

LOL! I had to check to see if this was satire. I think the author is actually serious (although being a vanity on a do-it-yourself website, this thread probably belongs in Bloggers and Personal).

Yes, pay no interest to plummeting interest rates, massive federal deficits, or our shrinking and uncompetitive export base. Our dollar is falling because the Ron Paul campaign wants gold to be worth more in dollar terms. Hehe!

I also like the idea of money not controlled by governments, but I have no idea how to go about setting it up.

The power given any person or group in charge of these decisions is tremendous. I’m uncomfortable with giving it to anybody.

I think the Fed has done a remarkably good job for several decades now. (Cross fingers.)

And I don’t mind calling Ron Paul a criminal for talking down the dollar.

Wow. So what do you call the guys running the money presses day and night 24/7/365? You know, the guys that actually affect the strength of the dollar?

In an economy approaching ten trillion dollars, I call them worker bees.
The gold standard is just as arbitrary a system of exchange, and would result in huge economic dislocations. I advocate for sound monetary policy, not gold denonininated feudalism.

The people who are posting insults and slurs here about Ron Paul are those people who are generally happy with the direction this country is headed today. They support the status quo and the candidates who promise to continue such. They express this satisfaction by hurling juvenile taunts and ridicule in the direction of anyone who challenges their world view, or who feel that this country is on a dangerous path. Their drone like ignorance is obvious in their inability to challenge the ideas and ideals of Ron Paul with reasoned debate. They do not wish to be exposed as hostile to what is a traditional conservative message. They are a minority in this country and they primary reason Republican chances of winning next Nov. appear remote.

BTW, speaking of neo-nazi support...where were your slurs against Bush when Don Black, the neo nazi creator of Stormfront marched in support hand in hand with conservative supporters of G.W. Bush in Florida in the 2000 election?

And I wonder how many of you were on Rons bandwagon in 1998 when Clinton was preparing to go to War in Iraq? Remember this

...United States Must Not Trample Constitution to Attack Iraq
February 16, 1998

I know he was cheered here on FR for his stance against Clinton nation building wars. There are many hypocrites and turncoats posting here these days.

AND NOW, FRIENDS AND COUNTRYMEN, if the wise and learned philosophers of the elder world, the first observers of nutation and aberration, the discoverers of maddening ether and invisible planets, the inventors of Congreve rockets and Shrapnel shells, should find their hearts disposed to enquire what has America done for the benefit of mankind?

Let our answer be this: America, with the same voice which spoke herself into existence as a nation, proclaimed to mankind the inextinguishable rights of human nature, and the only lawful foundations of government. America, in the assembly of nations, since her admission among them, has invariably, though often fruitlessly, held forth to them the hand of honest friendship, of equal freedom, of generous reciprocity.

She has uniformly spoken among them, though often to heedless and often to disdainful ears, the language of equal liberty, of equal justice, and of equal rights. She has, in the lapse of nearly half a century, without a single exception, respected the independence of other nations while asserting and maintaining her own.

She has abstained from interference in the concerns of others, even when conflict has been for principles to which she clings, as to the last vital drop that visits the heart.

She has seen that probably for centuries to come, all the contests of that Aceldama the European world, will be contests of inveterate power, and emerging right.

Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.

She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example.

She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom.

The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force....

She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit....

[America’s] glory is not dominion, but liberty. Her march is the march of the mind. She has a spear and a shield: but the motto upon her shield is, Freedom, Independence, Peace. This has been her Declaration: this has been, as far as her necessary intercourse with the rest of mankind would permit, her practice.

What an insipid 'article.'

The author is an idiot.

Ron Paul is not manipulating the downward spiral of the dollar, the FED is, via printing truckloads of currency and attempting to prop up failing financial institutions.

Why are they failing? one word: GREED

Greed of the average Joe who pulled multi-thousands of 'equity' out of his house and bought toys with it, instead of being responsible. Who then did a 'refi' to do it all again 2 years later. Now his 250K house is floating a 375K loan and the market tanked. So what does Joe do? He walks away with $125K worth of crap he didn't pay for and the bank has a house that is still worth 240K.

The banks were greedy too of course, lending money to loser they knew couldn't pay long term. But they still slammed them into ARMs and other flaky instruments and let them pay for 5 years before losing their homes.

To try to blame the current situstion on someone who advocates commodities as a way to protect the value of one's labors is ridiculous.

Ron Paul is not a serious candidate, and if he were, he would place his assets in a blind trust like every other responsible candidate. Paulites are getting hosed and so instead of questioning the wisdom of talking down the dollar, the anarchists pile on. And then the foolish have the nerve to attack those who have the courage to question pretend monetary authority - Mr. Pork Barrel Ron Paul. So try addressing the issues raised and not attacking the scholar.

A Paulite would be much smarter to join a campaign that has a chance of winning, not whining.

The premise is utterly ridiculous.

Ron Paul simply does not have the horsepower to devalue the dollar. No one person on this planet does.

If advocating precious metal ownership can tank our currency, we sure ain't no superpower.

'Scholar' my @$$. Some nobody on a blog venting his ignorant theory.

Thanks for the ping.

All this talk/writing about gold made me remember the January 21st Money bomb. RP will raise more money in two hours than FDT did in a week.

“The GOP will deserve what is coming down the pike at them in 08. Get used to the political wasteland Republicans...perhaps for a couple of decades. Conservatives who support Ron Paul will remember the treatment he has received in this election and it will be a cold day in hell before they cast a vote for the party which has trashed a 20 year conservative Republicans name and reputation to get another GOP neo-conservative elected.”

Let’s see what they (GOP) are currently offering:

An evangical tax and spender who lies about his degrees. Soft on immigration. left of center liberal

A guy who worships Brigham Young whose daddy was a governor and himself a governor who waffles on a whim to fit his political agenda. left of center mostly liberal

A pure bred gun grabbin cross dressin socialist and former mayor who is soft on immigration. far left of center...full blooded liberal

An actor and former Senator whose heart just doesn’t seem to be in it. mostly right of center para neo con.

A Doctor, a veteran, and Congressman skilled in economics with a consistent record of voting based on the Constitution. right of center...full blooded conservative.

A decorated veteran and Senator whose time has passed.
soft on immigration and strong on war. sometimes left sometimes right of center. hard to figure where he’ll be.
He should have learned to follow the Contstituition. Too late now. neo con.

While the GOP may get what they deserve, the American people won’t. But it’s their (voters) fault too for not looking seriously at the candidates and their records.

There is but one true blue conservative in the pack. Yet he’s the “laughingstock.” What does that tell you about the GOP? It tells me when it comes to the GOP, conservatism is old school and an antiquated subject which has outlived it’s time. At least as far as the GOP is concerned.

The graphic is totally opposite from reality.

In reality, it is "boosh" who is saving Ron Paul's ass, whether he likes it or not.

Here is one much closer to reality.
