“Rush is right. But why isn’t Fred doing better? He should be running away with the nomination.”

............................................

Those of us who have made calls for Fred have found many people who prefer him over the other candidates, but they have been told he has no chance and that they are afraid they will be wasting their vote. I find this terribly frustrating because the MSM is removing our best choice by spreading this lie.

The race really is still open and Fred could win if everyone would just VOTE the way they are inclined to vote. Most consider him the most conservative and they want to be swayed back.

If anyone reading this wants to help, calling for Fred is a great way to do it. It’s easy and productive.

I cannot site doctrinal problems with Romney

Favors the assault weapons ban?

Favors government mandated universal healthcare?

Even the newly manufactured Romney hasn't flipped to the conservative side on these issues.

Fred has no REAL interest in winning. Period.

Are you kidding me?? He even told us he doesn't LOVE campaigning; he only got in the race because the country needs a real Constitutional Conservative and there wasn't one running; he's got a great life outside of politics, etc.

Does Senator Thompson REALLY strike you as someone who would do all this to provide some sort of "moral support" for a friend??? Ha ha ha ha ha! He is in this to WIN and to SERVE!

I’m addressing my comments to you, not any other person. Posting ettiquite states that if you are going to discuss another person, or post another person’s views, you should ping them into the discussion.

I am not going to either discuss another person, OR another person’s views. If I want to do so, I know how to find the thread where those views are expressed, and post to them.

I don’t understand, why do people giving their opinion on politics for a living are hated even by conservatives? For crying out loud, Rush Limbaugh is the reason we conservatives have a voice out there. Get over your arrogant selves. In today’s world one slight disagreement with someone in the media, and you are a RINO, that’s sad and shallow.

I think you and I are saying much the same thing. I’m just a bit more cynical than you, and I know he cherishes his entertainment empire and is loath to do anything to jeopardize that. Smart man.

Fred went along with McCain-Feingold restriction of free speech - as Rush mentioned today. Rush said no Republican candidate has a perfect record.

His main criteria is whether a candidate is 1) positive about America and the ability of Americans to achieve greatness when unfettered by the shackles of big-government 2) Is the candidate seeking to bring in moderates by explaining & trumpeting conservative values & issues, or are they watering down conservatism & compromising on issues to bring in moderates?

Rush has disappointed me.

Oh Lord. That is all we here on here. Anne disappointed me. Hannity disappointed me. Dr. Dobson disappointed me. Tom Coborn disappointed me. blah blah blah. Look sometimes it could be the candidate who has been a disappointment. We have been saying since he started that he needed to step it up. FREDHEADS would not take heed. This was so obvious. Of course the excuses that were given to Fred were incredible. The media’s fault. NO! If Fred was out there giving speeches daily like people asked him to do, he would have gotten attention. He has been all over the media the last month and numbers have not moved. This is a complete disappointment and now we are going to be stuck with a two year campaign season from now on if not more. Had Fred campaigned successfully, we could have went down to a six month campaign at most. I am very disappointed. However, it is not the end of the road. He just might win South Carolina...who knows.

Actually, in 2004 he did not ban guns, and in fact the legislation he signed was pushed by pro-gun groups and hailed as the best pro-gun legislation in the states history.

Romney issued a statement on December 31st that clearly indicated the types of weapons he would consider OK to ban, and they were those like the ones restricted by existing legislation (1934, 1986). He does not support NEW legislation at this time.

Other than his somewhat lukewarm support for banning the sale of a few weapons, he has not been “anti-gun”, which is why he got a “B” from the NRA, which is hardly an “anti-gun” grade.

Of course, we are all confused right now over how our “pro-gun” president seems to be acting regarding the judicial fight over the DC gun ban. Romney is on the side of overturning the ban, which apparently puts him somewhat to the pro-gun side of Bush on this one.

I know this — no single-issue anti-gun voter is going to be pulling the lever for Romney.

Of course, no pro-abortion single-issute voter will ever choose Romney, nor will any single-issue pro-amnesty or pro-illegal-immigrant voter, or any single-issue pro-tax voter.

Maybe because it sounded like she was going to say something bad about Fred, and she hadn’t told the call screener what she would say about Fred, and Rush is pretty good about not letting callers get onto topics other than what they’ve been screened to talk about.

I do agree that we can’t wallow in disappointment. I’m more convinced than ever that Fred Thompson is the man we need to be our nominee. I won’t stop working and supporting him no matter who will or won’t endorse him and if everyone who agrees would do whatever they can, we still have time to make a difference.

Actually, he does not favor “THE” assault weapons ban. There isn’t even an “assault weapons ban” being proposed that he favors.

He has said he supports the EXISTING law, (1934/1986), and does not support adding any NEW laws at this time.

And he does not support, at least at the federal level, universal healthcare OR a mandate, although he supported a mandated proof of ability to pay your medical bills as Governor of Mass.

There is some discussion over where the “conservative” position is on health care. Once you decide you aren’t going to let people die on the sidewalk in front of the hospital because they don’t have the cash to pay for a simple treatment that would save them, the application of conservative principles to solving the problem some other way becomes a bit murky.
