Republican candidate Fred Thompson called moral foul on former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee for recent push-polling calls to South Carolina residents.
"I'm somewhat surprised that someone who espouses the values the Governor talks about all the time would find himself in the situation ... this is clearly improper activity that is going on right under his nose," Thompson said.
The Thompson campaign says they have been receiving complaints of push-polling calls to South Carolina residents with false information about the former Tennessee senator's position on partial birth abortion and illegal immigration. They campaign says the calls are being paid for by a group who supports Huckabee, who also push-polled in Iowa prior to the caucuses.
At a campaign stop in Prosperity, South Carolina, Thompson did some investigating of his own and asked how many people had received a push-polling call. About a dozen people raised their hands.

Why somewhat surprised? For someone campaigning as a christian, old Huck has had no problem bending his ethics to help his campaign.
Speaking of ethics. Has there been any updates on those 14 ethics violations while he was governor of Arkansas? Has that been debunked or ignored?
“I’m somewhat surprised that someone who espouses the values the Governor talks about all the time would find himself in the situation ... this is clearly improper activity that is going on right under his nose,” Thompson said.
Don’t worry Fred, I am sure that Huckaliar will sign a pledge against such things right after the vote Saturday.
Good second report on this, although it’s only a blog. First the Washington Post blog, and now the ABC blog. Maybe word will start to get out to the voters in South Carolina.
But you might think this was important enough to go on their main web sites, like the fake push poll on Mitt’s Mormonism.
LOL. I’ve always thought that as a pastor Huck could’ve done more to help the downtrodden than as a president, he should know this.
**Republican candidate Fred Thompson called moral foul on former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee for recent push-polling calls to South Carolina residents. **
For the truth, Fred. Make him (Huckabee) tell the truth.
FRed Ping!
He has no room to talk. Out of his own mouth, not others, he has distorted Huckabee’s record.
Nice of them to give Huckabee’s people a chance to respond.
Fred now enjoys the MSM spoiler roll. MSM wants McCain so they help Fred.
Beware Huck Derangement Syndrome
To the Huckster supporters on FR. Your candidate is pure scum who will never be supported by conservatives. A vote for Huckster is a vote for Hillary or Obama. Get used to it because the majority of us will never vote for this worthless piece of crap.
I’m pretty certain Jesus would never push-poll.
He says they are coming from an outside group of supporters who he has no control over.
If he can’t persuade these so called “outside groups” that support him to stop these polls, what makes him think he can persuade all the Dems to go along with all his constitutional amendments?
SC voter here. I’ll proudly be voting for FRed on Saturday.
I’ve been push polled by Huckabubba, phoned at least twice a day by McManiac, phoned by a Huckbubba worker wanting me to vote for him (I set him so straight his head was spinning as he hung up the phone), etc., etc.
I’ll be glad when Saturday gets here :)
Of course then we start all over again with the RATS. That should be fun!
Look at the bright side. Thanks to mean ole Huckabee now the fredheads will have a good excuse when Fred finishes behind Ron Paul again.... :)
BIG TIME BUMP!!!!!!!
I'd love to debate this one with you. Please trot out these distortions.
Is push polling illegal?
Don’t expect a response, Huckabee supporters make up facts just like their lying socialist pastor.
In some states, I think it is in South Carolina.
Saying Huckabee is part of the Blame America First crowd is a distortion.
You have summed it up and made my day! If the country is going to be destroyed by a socialist agenda, I’d rather it be by a liberal Democrat than a faux conservative Republican.
OK - so with all the Huckabee bashing going on (and I am one of them) - what are you all going to do if he somehow wins the nomination???? Come on now - be honest?
Will you continue to bash him - thus further weakening him in the General Election (and helping the DemonRats into the Whitehouse)?
Will you drop the bashing and pretend to like him - preaching his worthiness and fine qualities as a Conservative candidate and a wonderful Christian man?
Will you just quiet up and vote for him, but not discuss much?
Will you vote for a 3rd party/none-of-the-above/anyone but him or Hillobama?
I’m sorry, but the slate of viable candidates leaves a WHOLE lot to be desired. Some, I just cannot even hold my nose and vote for, others will be painful, but I might be able to cast a vote for them... and the only one that is still “in” the race that I would have zero difficulty voting for - isn’t even on the Primary ballot in my state (Duncan Hunter).
Isn’t that called being disenfranchised? Where is Al Sharpton and The Rev. Jacka$$on? My rights be viomalated....
He didn’t say Huckabee was a part of it, he said he comments were like those in that camp, and his “arrogant, bunker mentality” comments definitely were.
That’s exactly right. Let the Democrats take the fall and in 2012 we can hopefully come back with a conservative to clear up the mess.
I’ll stay home or write in Bugs Bunny. Won’t vote for a guy who’ll set conservatism back 100 years.
Speaking of Al and Jesse, there good friend Cornell West (leader of Christian Socialist movement and race baiter) LOVES Huckabee, called him the “real deal” out of all the candidates...on both sides.
I wondered what happened to those stories about the fancy gifts Huckabee received and in return appointed the gift givers to government positions. Isn’t there a law against that? Fred nor his staff will pursue this considering it to be a personal attack but people need to know the facts about this high moral character. Soon. Tomorrow at the latest.
I was listing the phone calls I’ve been getting and left out the strangest. Although I don’t know for sure a politician was involved.
The phone rang. I picked it up and said, “Hello.” Silence, which isn’t unusual if it’s a recorded call. Then this sexy woman’s recorded voice said, “We’re sorry for the inconvenience. This call needs to be answered by an answering machine.” How strange is that? New one on me :)
Kinda Clintonesque..... kinda like the meaning of the word is.. huh?
Yup and his name is Bobby Jindal...I just hope he’s watching this cycle and doesn’t screw up.
Not vote or write in Fred. If the liberal dummies in our party are willing to have him represent the party of Reagan then they can deal with the fallout. Conservatives will be heard and not marginalized.
Yes it is illegal - South Carolina law prohibits automated calls for political purposes with a penalty of 30 days in jail and a $200 fine for each violation, but such calls are commonplace. Fred’s campaign is collecting names of people who received these calls and is turning them over to the authorities. I received one of these calls - it was way over the line and offensive.
I’ll immediately call for impeachment hearings.
If you can’t see the difference between saying Huckabee was part of the camp rather than saying similar things as the blame America first crowd I can see why you support Huckabee.
I see the difference. It’s just like disputing the meaning of the word IS. Exact same thing. Telling the country in a debate that what huckabee is saying is just like the blame america crowd.... ohhhhhh but I didn’t say he was one of them.... It’s disingenuous. It’s a distortion. You asked for a distortion. Why am I surprised that you would not accept it when one is presented?
The new governor of Louisiana. One worth keeping our eyes on although he would only be in his third year if he were to make a run in 2012. That’s not much experience. Plus, I have no idea what his political philosophy is. He may be more liberal than Huckster and McShame. Time will tell.
It’s a distortion of the truth. It’s politics. I’m not complaining about it. But the question was name one. You guys would be more genuine if you simply acknowledged that .... “yeah Fred hit him hard there. He might have stretched it a little”. It’s politics. It’s not like it makes him a bad guy. But it’s a distortion none the less.
Horse pucky
It’s not a distortion. I’ll take it further than Fred did, though. Huckabee’s foriegn policy “paper”, ghostwritten as it was, was a load of armchair general garbage and put him, in my mind, in the blame America first crowd.
moms coming home - better get off the computer before she gets mad
Tell mom to call the whammmmbulance.
I like huckabee.... but you guys need to know.... I don't like him as much as many fredheads like Fred. Huckabee isn't my savior. But for many fredheads Fred is their savior.
Fred’s words first = He believes we have an arrogant foreign policy and the tradition of, blame America first.
Huckabee:
Apologized for the Bhutto assassination as if it were America’s fault.
Buys into the global warming myth that blames America first for natural cycles in temperature.
Criticized President Bush for having a bunker mentality in lines that could have come from any of the Democrats.
Blamed America for the plight of those here ilegally to the point of wanting us to pay for them to attend school here.
Who penned these words?
American foreign policy needs to change its tone and attitude, open up, and reach out. The Bush administration’s arrogant bunker mentality has been counterproductive at home and abroad. My administration will recognize that the United States’ main fight today does not pit us against the world but pits the world against the terrorists.
—
The United States’ strategic interests as the world’s most powerful country coincide with its moral obligations as the richest. If we do not do the right thing to improve life in the Muslim world, the terrorists will step in and do the wrong thing.
—
Whereas our failure to tackle Iran seems to be leading inexorably to our attacking it, our failure to tackle al Qaeda in Pakistan seems to be leading inexorably to its attacking us again.
—
It’s politics, Fred. Look it up. Also see prostitution.
I will vote for a 3rd party/none-of-the-above/
Good point. If it comes down to that we must remember when they say if we don’t vote for Huck we are voting for Hillary we can remind them who spoiled the pot first.
But if you read his actual statement it is clear that he simply used the word apology instead of sympathy. A speaking error. He made no comments that implied it was America's fault. NONE. You just know the spin you read. And SPIN is all about distortion.
Huck’s blame America first essay. (my personal favorite is how Iran misbehaved because the Pres put them in the axis of evil, lol)
