The New Lepers (NY Post on the NY Slimes' whacko vet theory)
New York Post online ^ | Ralph Peters

Posted on 01/18/2008 10:38:17 AM PST by StarCMC

I'VE had a huge response to Tuesday's column about The New York Times' obscene bid to smear veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan as mad killers. Countless readers seem to be wondering: Why did the paper do it?

Well, in the Middle Ages, lepers had to carry bells on pain of death to warn the uninfected they were coming. One suspects that the Times would like our military veterans to do the same.

The purpose of Sunday's instantly notorious feature "alerting" the American people that our Iraq and Afghanistan vets are all potential murderers when they move in next door was to mark those defenders of freedom as "unclean" - as the new lepers who can't be trusted amid uninfected Americans.

In the more than six years since 9/11, the Times has never run a feature story half as long on any of the hundreds of heroes who've served our country - those who've won medals of honor, distinguished service crosses, Navy crosses, silver stars or bronze stars with a V device (for valor).

But the Times put a major investigative effort into the "sensational" story that 121 returning vets had committed capital offenses (of course, 20 percent of the cases cited involved manslaughter charges stemming from drunken driving, not first- or second-degree murder . . . ).

*snip*

Again, the Times' smear certainly wasn't an accident. The paper's staff is highly paid and highly experienced. Its editors know that a serious news story has to put numbers into context. But their sole attempt at context was to note that offenses by former soldiers have ticked up since we went to war.

The Times is trying to make you fear our veterans...to convince you that our military would be...a death-machine that would turn [your sons and daughters] into incurable psychopaths.

This is an excerpt only because it had to be -- the full article is worth your time to read.

The Old Grey Witch hates the troops - they ARE the Enemedia within.

Has anyone crunched the NYT's numbers? I mean, really crunched them? I could sure use the ammo [pun intended] the next time I meet a few certain people.

I’d like to have a bell around the neck of every person working for the NY Times, so that every time the bell rings, we know a traitor is nearby.

Media was horrified at the number of American flags displayed after 9/11.

They are equally horrified that Americans have been turning out in droves to welcome our Troops home.

What they really want is the public spitting on them like in the good old days...

Hey Tas — you’re right. Do you remember that commercial that ran on TV for a while — it said something like “Some things were changed on 9-11...” and the picture changes from a normal looking neighborhood street to that same street but every house had a flag on it. I LOVE that commercial.

...by the way here’s what Wall Street thinks of the NYT’s business sense:

I hope Pinch and the boys are really enjoying this! Caught again!

A great article. But I thought the funniest part was that bit at the end:

“Ralph Peters is a retired Army officer who has yet to kill any of his neighbors (although they’d better keep their grass cut).”

The myth of the PTSD whacked out Vietnam vet has been perpetuated for decades to the point that now everyone just believes it without questioning it's veracity. From Viper's Vietnam Veterans Pages...

And the war was reported by a self serving Media who penned stories filled with inaccuracies, deliberate omissions, biased presentations and blatant distorted interpretations. ( Television's Vietnam, The Impact of Media ) The Vietnam War became more about journalists (Dan Rather, Walter Cronkite) than about a war for the survival of liberal democracy in Southeast Asia. If only they loved their country's young and willing warriors as much as they loved their own children. The welfare of the troops and the TRUTH took a back seat to the press' sense of its own importance. Thanks to John Kerry the "Opportunist", Jane Fonda the "Communist" and Walter Cronkite and the other left wing journalists who were too swept up in their own danse macabre to even notice the murderous consequences of their own malfeasance -- or to hear the demands of simple decency.

We never lost a battle in Vietnam but we lost the war at home under color of the coward and liar.

Sounds pretty darn familiar.
