UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon named actor George Clooney, who has campaigned for refugees in Darfur, as a U.N. "messenger of peace" on Friday to promote the world body's peacekeeping efforts.
Clooney is the ninth U.N. messenger -- people chosen from the fields of art, music, literature and sports who have agreed to help focus attention on the United Nations' work.
U.N. spokeswoman Michele Montas said Clooney would have a special emphasis on peacekeeping. She said he had been "recognized for focusing public attention on crucial international political and social issues."
Clooney, who is currently in Sudan, will receive his designation on January 31 at U.N. headquarters.

He should also give Sean Penn a similar designation.
Sean could then spread the word of peace...when he’s not beating women.

This is a joke right?
How much longer are we going to put up with this expensive body of navel gazers?
They have regressed the original intent of the United Nations to an embarrassing and costly exercise in the ridiculous.

Yeah, why does his hairline look so weird and straight? I always thought he had his own hair, not that considering Clooney’s hair should take up more than, uh, 1/2 second in a person’s entire life....

Look at his publicity pics...the hairline is very strangely straight and off color from the sides...he’s done extensive work there.
Somebody should tell Cluey to dye ths sides or paint the top...

Prepare for another elitist SMUG attack from George Looney. As usual, Reuters jacked up the propaganda piece, and the writer tells the story like he was in love with George.
To: eleni121
You are so right - he has some more natural looking pics when the hair on top (his own, I think) was getting gray and kinda spiky.

Well said.
I would love to hear one of our candidates to sternly fire a shot across the bow of this wretched corrupt agency, and say that the UN needs to move to Europe or elsewhere, and that we are starting a new agency that only includes legitimate, free nations. We could send over some State Dept hacks and still belong to the old UN and attend meetings, but conduct all serious business only with the new entity. We do need to keep feelers in the corrupt UN, and be able to represent ourselves and vote against the leftist scum there, but marginalize it to the point where it is a laughingstock and any serious nations switches their business and joins us. We need to draw a line in the sand. Thugs not welcome.

Are you talking about when he was down here in New Orleans after Katrina in a little skift of some kind bailing water with a (if I can remember correctly) a plastic cup or can? That was funny.
