Russia Issues Pre-Emptive Nuclear Threat

By Sky News SkyNews - 27 minutes ago

Russia's military chief of staff says Moscow would use nuclear weapons in pre-emptive strike if it felt threatened.

General Yuri Baluyevsky said there were no plans "to attack anyone" but reasserted Russia's right to defend itself.

"To defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Russia and its allies, military forces will be used, including preventively, including with the use of nuclear weapons," Gen Baluyevsky said.

The remarks do not represent a change in policy for Moscow.

But they do come at a time of heightened tension between Russia and the West.

Russia is embroiled in persistent disputes over US plans for missile defence facilities in former Soviet satellite states that have joined Nato.

A row has also broken out between the UK and Russia after the director of the British Council in St Petersburg was briefly arrested.

Britain closed the council's offices after accusing the Russians of harassment.

Here's the crux, I would wager.

Putin is goose stepping Russia straight back to the Iron Curtain.

It isn’t Bush’s fault that Putin refused to rise to the place in history that he could have

Initiailly, it was appropriate for Bush to publically give Putin the benefit of the doubt to see if he’d turn into being a real leader instead of another pinko commie power-dictator. After Putin started showing his true colors, that benefit of doubt existed no more and the two of them were not close or trusting.

It's just politics. Putin derangement syndrome is just as silly as Bush DS.

Putin's goal is to reestablish Russia as a regional, if not superpower. The whole "mad-man" defense thing has been done before. It just shows Putin is a student of history.

That's certainly against our interests, but it's a mistake to think that Putin isn't a rational actor. It's an act.

Nope, it’s for the Europeans and Americans who are playing games in Serbia, and notice to butt out of Chechnya.

The inclusion of ‘her allies’ was aimed towards us, not China, unless Russia just picked up a good stake in Taiwan.

Rattle that saber, Putin, and imagine that you matter. The Chinese know that Russia is on the way to being extinct, and they have plenty of people who will move in on your territory. You are marked for the “ash heap of history,” in the prescient words of Ronald Reagan.

Everyone knew Putin's background - head of the KGB, i.e, head of an outfit that routinely tortured people - well, it takes a certain kind of person to be able to do that for a living. And then the other stuff, associating with gangsters, etc.

Knowing all that, was there ever ANY evidence to suggest that he would be a benevolent leader?

No, its worse. The commies had their religion of the “dialectic” and a certainty of victory as promised by their prophets Marx and Lenin.

So, the CCCP commies would push and probe, looking to bring “true communism” one step closer to reality. But they always were ready to cool down for a while and go low profile to avoid a potentially catastrophic showdown. Why push too hard when history is on your side?

This is’nt the Soviet Union any more. Its Russia, pure and simple, playing old school Euro power games. And that school did’nt teach backing off from a bad hand and waiting until later. Simple nationalism is a much less patient and long term goal oriented beast than communism.

I was thinking about the attack recorded in the Bible called the battle of Gog-Magog. An attack that mentions the people of the North (and north of Israel you’ll find Russia), in league with the Persians (Iranians) and Turkey, who basically go on a spree and wreck havoc. I’m wondering if an attack on Iran, which seems inevitable at this point, could spur an attack from Russia to protect it’s trading partner?

The Israeli's took out the Iraq reactor before the fuel rods were in place to minimize radiation spread to innocents int he bombing, and so if they repeat the process, they’ll have to hurry. If they do attack Iran, Iran isn’t just going to stand by and be humiliated. They’ll want revenge because they are stark raving mad.

How the fascists work ...

Putin needs a bogey man to remain dictator of Russia. Therefore as a good little communist, to keep the Russian people in a constant state of fear he must have an enemy, real or imaginary.

It’s exactly what the Democrats have been spouting about Bush for years. Democrats don’t see a real enemy, have tried for years to convince the public that the jihads are imaginary. But in the case of the fascist Democrats the REAL enemy is glow-bull warming, hence the constant fear mongering from them and the drive bys. The results desired by Democrats is the same as Putin, you lose your freedoms and remain in a constant state of fear.

Ignoring the Democrats true intentions with the glow-bull warming hoax is a huge mistake. If you haven’t done so already, get the book “State of Fear” by Micheal Cricjton to understand better what the Democrats game plan is.

What’s interesting is that if your fallout shelter is dug into the ground (at least ten feet under) and contains a decent way to seal out contanminants, you could survive a near-miss from a 1 MT nuclear bomb (though ground zero has to be around 1.75 miles away) and live there safely for up to 2-3 weeks with enough consumables such a water and canned food. Mind you, those shelters now find better use as tornado shelters in the US Midwest.

THE CORRECT ANALYSIS OF RUSSIA

Communism is just another name for state capitalism. The perogatives of exploiting opportunities, realizing profit, etc. is taken out of the hands of individuals and accorded solely to the state.

In that regard, the Soviet Union was a failed enterprise. The “collapse” of the iron curtain was simply an opportunity to shed money losing assets (Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, etc.). Following that, with the benefit of a new “revolution”, Russia went through it’s own restructuring. Now, thanks to increased oil prices, we have the leaner meaner Russia, Inc. trying to be everyone’s pain in the ass.

It’s been a mistake from the beginning to expand NATO into the former Soviet bloc countries. Do we really nee another region that benfits from our military protection so we have to spend money on their defense and they don’t? It’s a needless provocation to do this with few benefits for the US other being able to say we are the great protectors of the world. Avoiding nation building and not being the police force of the world is why I voted for Bush but once again we were lied to.

Only thing that *is* stopping the Chinese from invading is the fact that there wouldn’t be all that many Chinese left afterwards to move to Siberia.
