ABC's Christine Byun reports: Republican candidate Fred Thompsons campaign is accusing rival Mike Huckabees campaign of more "dirty tricks" in South Carolina.
They say fliers with misleading information about the former Tennessee senators abortion record were placed on parked cars at their event venue last night (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/01/thompson-lets-g.html). The fliers insinuate Thompson voted for funding for abortions through a bill that supported Planned Parenthood. Thompson - who has received the endorsement of national anti-abortion organization National Right to Life - did vote for the bill in question, H.R. 3061. However, the bill specifically states that it does not include federal funding for abortions and does not mention Planned Parenthood. The flier quotes Scripture - Proverbs 31:8 - and includes a picture of the former Senator.
"Sen. Thompson worked in the Senate to ensure that federal funds did not go to abortion," a Thompson campaign spokesman, who provided a copy of a flier, said.
Earlier this week, the Thompson campaign accused Huckabee supporters of push-polling calls.
These deceptive tactics are yet another sad sign that Gov. Huckabee cannot engage in a substantive discussion of the important public policy issues facing our country, Dean Rice, the South Carolina campaign manager, said in a written statement.
Yep, the Huck has a Clintonesque style of campaigning.
He is deep down dirty while pretending he isn’t dirty.
Iwonder if Huck is using the christian mantra of WWJD (What would Jesus do). These kinds of dirty tricks and outright lies should answer your question to that one. I wonder how he rationalizes that when he spends time with God with a guilty conscience.
Huck is the Democrat mole within the GOP.
Everytime I think huckster can't get any crepier or slimier something like this happens.
Must be somthing in the water over there.
This level of sleeze tells me that the Huckster is very worried.
Hope, Arkansas is obviously the center of cheap and tawdry. BS must be added into the drinking water. The people that would vote for this guy are total fools.
*UCK HUCK
These sorts of low, dirty tricks are beginning to make me wonder if the Huckster's minions had anything to do with the Politico rumors that Fred was going to drop out after Iowa.
It was reported on Fox News that HUCKABEE supporters found flyers on their car windows that bashed ALL Republican candidates except Ron Paul.
I bet these are the same flyers, but Fred’s campaign is spinning it.
Huh.
FRed is going to be MAD, which improves the chances he won’t drop out!!
And if you could not tell, that was SARCASM!
And you were there and know this?
Actually, Thompson's "Blame America first" routine has more of the Clintonian ring.
You are confused. Fred has Never “blamed America first”...
Read up before you post.
You skeered. HA HA HA HA HA HA
I am wondering how the Fred-heads will react when Fred drops out, and if he endorses McCain...?
What a stupid question.
But I’ll believe Fox News before I’ll believe ABC news.
I don’t believe either, and yours was stoopider than mine....
Surely YOU jest. Thompson’s campaign is not the blame America first campaign.
I bellieve the Huckster is the one that is a total clown and ignorant to foreign policy. He is the one who is into blaming America first.
Don’t make stuff up. It isn’t becoming and most FReepers know better.
For the record, HR 3061 is the MedicAid funding bill, and it does allow for funding abortions performed at Planned Parenthood.
So the author of the flyers was spinning.
That's Thompson's attack routine against Huckabee. Sounds just like something the Clintons would have dreamed up, don't you think?
bellieve=believe Sorry
Should be interesting to watch :)
As far as Huckabee hitting Fred..... I'd say it's live by the hatchet, die by the hatchet.
How could my question be stupider than your’s — I didn’t ask a question! Ha-Ha!
The “Blame America first” thing is Thompson’s tactic against Huckabee.
Why did Fred and not Huck get the Ntl Right to Life endorsement? Hm?
BUT...BUT...BUT... He’s a Christian!!!!
Don’t worry, Fred will be out of the race tomorrow, and they will be out of their pain that he is losing.
And into their pain that he lost!! ;-)
Not gonna happen. I got the answer last night from one of the Romney people. Fred wasn’t nice to Romney post Michigan so all bets are off. Nice, huh.
OK, you didn’t have a question mark. You made a proposition.
I laugh at your proposition! Ha!
Please, quit your lying. Huck was the one that apologized to Pakistan for Bhutto’s death, He then had to retract it because he showed what an idiot he is.
Thompson has said nothing about blaming the US first.
Since you keep pressing that fact, produce a link where Thompson has blamed America first.
It looks like Thompson is trying to spin disappointing exit polls results.
If the exit polls showed a Thompson surge, the headline would have read, "Dirty tricks can't keep Thompson down".
“Thompson campaign spokesman, who provided a copy of a flier,”
So, Fred Thompson’s campaign is spinning it, and that is why they supplied a copy of the flier to the reporters.
You have no proof and enjoy lying. The evidence is in the post. You can’t spin it when you provide the reporters a COPY OF THE FLIER. They can see for themselves.
Yep, he’s a cheese nose. Typical Huck supporter. Make the facts up as they go along because Huck’s a “Christian”.
Bible warned about following false people.
I think you are mistaken.
You may recall Romney put his ads back up in South Carolina after Michigan. If Fred wasn’t nice it’s because of that.
Romney went and pulled his campaign out again in the end though, so it looks like it’s back on.
But a deal will be reached between Romney and Thompson one way or another... out of necessity for both.
Go away, a stupid post.
He would not have declared if he wanted to support McCain. Fred Thompson disagrees with McCain.
And if they refer to Title-X federal funding of Planned Parenthood, to say it does not go toward abortions is a big fat lie.
From the NRTL web site:
In making its endorsement, National Right to Life considered the position of candidates on the life issues, their records on the life issues and their ability to win.... Since announcing his candidacy in September, Fred Thompson has run second only to pro-abortion candidate Rudy Giuliani for the Republican nomination in the overwhelming majority of national polls.
That may give you an idea. Things have changed since September. I think it is interesting that Michigan Right to Life did not endorse any of the Republican candidates prior to the Mich. primary.
Welcome to FR.
This link explains everything clearly.

Welcome to FR, do you have something against conservatives?
As is McCain. Only McCain doesn't try to hide it. (Which then makes him a non-mole)
Thompson was McCain's campaign co-chair last time McCain went for it. I would not be surprised if Thompson's strategy right now is that he is just running for vice-president...don't be shocked if it all ends with a McCain/Thompson ticket. McCain would pull in the middle-of-the-road types and Thompson wold help shore up the conservative base.
I think this also explains why Fred has been a pit bull on Huckabee but a kitty cat with McCain. It all fits.
Any funding of Planned Parenthood means money into their big coffers. If they get more in one area, that means they can move more of their death funds into their abortuaries and their sales and marketing of murder.
Your tax dollars at work.
