Right To Life Group Sends Plastic Fetus In Mail

RACINE, Wis. -- A right to life group in Racine is under fire after mailing controversial material to 44,000 people.

It included an informational letter, a fundraising envelope and a small plastic fetus.

Mystical Listrom said she was not happy with what she found inside when she opened a letter from Wisconsin Right to Life accompanied by a plastic fetus.

"It's my right to choose to do what I want with my body. I shouldn't have people telling me what I can and can't do with my body," Listrom said.

Her neighbor, Glenda Pollock, got the same package.

"If they had sent a letter explaining why they think abortion should not be allowed, I wouldn't have a problem with that. It was the plastic fetus that bothered me," Pollock said.

"We thought it would be appropriate to send out some information to get people talking about the subject," said Dave Obernberger of Wisconsin Right to Life.

Dave and Bonnie Obernberger, with the Racine County chapter of Wisconsin Right to Life, are the people behind the mailing.

They said the plastic figure represents an 11- or 12-week fetus.

They sent it out this week to mark the 35-year anniversary of Roe Vs. Wade, the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.

"I pray that they'll look at it a little more than being offended by it, but being educated by it," Dave Obernberger said.

The Obernbergers said they have already gotten some response, and they expect more.

Pollock wasted no time having her voice heard. She brought the package to the post office and mailed it back.

"I had to pay to have it returned because it was a non-profit mailing, which I was happy to pay. It was just over $1 and it was well worth it," Pollock said.

Pollock filed a complaint with the U.S. Postal Service; however, it doesn't appear to be illegal.

Postal officials said it doesn't fit their standards of obscene or lewd, but they said people can fill out a form that would prevent them from getting mail from Wisconsin Right to Life in the future.

The mailers were sent to every home in Racine and to some of the surrounding suburbs.

Hey, Mr. Silverback! Read my post #39 and tell me what you think.

I think it’s time for a different approach to this Societal Suicide.

Showing someone what a 12 week old fetus looks like is no more a shock tactic than telling someone they are about to abort something that has a heartbeat and fingernails.

If this is a shock tactic, one wonders what you could ever say or show that wouldn't be a shock tactic. No sale.

I like the way you think, but promoting adoptions is part of what Crisis Pregnancy centers do. We’re already on it in a big way.

Just a comment,
but how do you think this would effect women who’ve had miscarriages? Especially those who just had one?

Or someone who never could have children and always grieved inside?

Or how about someone who had an abortion and is on the edge-— or is getting therapy, ‘repenting’ but still mentally fragile?

I can see any of the above crying their eyes out and hating the people who sent it out plus throwing out anything else they got from them in the trash.

Just a thought.

Excellent point. Many pro-life organizations have referral services for women who are affected by post-abortion stress problems. It’s an important step towards healing the wound and getting them on to the right path. They’ve been lied to for so long by the media, by the feminists, by men who use them, etc. that it can be an incredibly heavy burden to bear. They need to be counseled while seeking understanding of their error and finding forgiveness, recieve it and to spread the truth about abortion, one person at a time. I don’t see how else we will eventually win this war that has taken over 50 million American lives since 1973. An incredible tragedy that cries to heaven. God hear us and help us in our struggle to do what is right for the innocent children, and their ignorant and selfish parents, both MEN and women.

they would be open to truth from a friend that cares about them. not by getting a surprise ‘gift’ from some total stranger.

"...It was the plastic fetus that bothered me,"

The dead real ones, in the vacuum tank, or in the stainless steel bowl with the scissors, those are fine.

I agree. I don’t believe they necessarily DID anything though, but they probably have some wrong THINKING that gnaws at them, especially after seeing the plastic model.

They give girls the squishy breasts to learn how to check for lumps in their breast, so why is a plastic fetus such a terrible thing?

I agree that the emotional elment cuts both ways; however the first is for the guilty conscience of one who chooses to kill the child, the second is for the one, who through no fault of their own, either lost a child or could never concieve. The fact that the literature accompanying the plastic model would help to clarify that issue. The anxiety a woman, or couple feel, after losing a child in utero or never having been able to concieve to begin with afflicts them all their lives, especially when seeing other infants. It is not a bad thing; it is a reality of our existence (like accidental deaths) and the deprivation we may feel when we are denied something we want vs. something we may really need. Adoption has soothed this problem for many couples. Too bad so many more infants aren’t available for these same people due to abortion.

So now the fact that it was unsolicited makes it a shock tactic?

It sounds like her parents were loser hippies, she’s probably lucky to have escaped the abortuaries herself.

You make good points, but a very smalll number of people would be affected that way, while many people would be seeing an illustration of the fetus' true form for the first time.

As for hate...I think you're adding your own emotional state into that equation. I actually had a friend who saw one of my pro-life signs just days after she had a miscarriage. She pointed out that it hurt, but she didn't hold me responsible...just an unfortunate coincidence that she passed by.

Oh, I hate anyone who believes their cause is so righteous they believe that they can hurt anyone they want to.

All I’m pointing out is that there are other sides and not everyone will be ‘won over’ like you’d think.

BTW,
the next time there is a thread about a mentally ill, paraplegic, homeless man with an ostomy being dumped in the gutter— and folks cheering and making out like that’s OK—— I’m pinging all of you guys.

I mean, all life has value, even if they’re smell, crazy, disgusting and homeless, right?

I beg to differ; my wife and I have experienced two miscarriages and one stillborn. We have also been blessed to have three healthy, adult children. It is a mystery that only God will be able to answer, when and if I’m worthy enough of entering heaven. I believe though, that our innocent neverborn children, having souls infused at conception, are already there. That alone gives me relief of their loss and hope for our journey. Peace.

If this didn’t really resonate with these Liberal consciences, they wouldn’t make a fuss. Seems like this message hit home.

And the response? Trying to be fetusfascists and deny the factual message from confronting them in the future.

Unfathomable selfishness and denial.
