CLEARWATER, Fla. -- A 75-year-old woman was arrested at a Clearwater McDonald's drive-thru, because police say she wouldn't pull her car forward.

Authorities said Jean Merola, a grandmother of eight, was arrested for disorderly conduct after she refused an officer's orders to move her car while she waited for the coffee and fries she ordered at the drive-through window.

Merola said the McDonald's employees told her to wait there for her food.

Merola was handcuffed behind her back and put in the cruiser.

Another officer arrived and took her to the Pinellas County Jail .

Merola said she was searched, photographed and fingerprinted.

Jail records show she was released about 90 minutes later on her own recognizance.

Geez, it wasn't even a Dunkin Donuts she was waiting in line for, this cop must have really needed his coffee...

Didn’t this cop have a taser yet?

I can only imagine what would have happened if she had had a dog in the car with her ...

Was it a super sized order of fries?

IMO, IF the cop’s car was locked in behind hers and he received a dispatch call and she wouldn’t move, then it’s a valid charge.

Any other reason is false arrest.

Her jury will have 12 more just like her. That should be a pretty interesting verdict.

Even though this happened about 1000 miles from me, I feel safer already.

Something tells me that McDonalds is going to make good on this. I think the cop is going to become the ridicule of the community. Granny should have experienced chest pains and become incontinent in the back of the squad car.

Many times, if cops weren’t cops, they’d be thugs.

I doubt it was, he waited around until another car took her to jail for him so he must not have been in too much of a hurry.

I always follow orders from McDonald's employees before those from armed patrolmen. It always ends up so much better for me.

I suspect there is more to the story.

As a police officer he should have never pulled so close to a car that he was blocked in.
Heck, I'm not even a police officer and I know THAT.

There is no such thing as false arrest. It’s a contradiction of terms.

A more appropriate action would have been to let the pissed-off people behind her deal with her.

If that was the case, it must not have been a very important dispatch call, if the officer chose to ignore it and instead arrest and book a little old lady at a drive-thru.
