From Charles, a commenter at Fred File. He makes a strong case why, despite what the media & his opponents would like to see, Fred Thompson should continue in the race to the White House.

The Job Interview Process Is Not Over

The United States of America is the greatest enterprise to ever exist in the history of the world. It is looking for its’ next CEO and yesterday 71,000 of its “shareholders” have asked Fred Thompson to return for his next “interview”. I am hoping that he continues campaigning as they see this process the same way I do: the hiring of the best person that can lead this nation. Those 71,000 shareholders in two states still believe Fred is the man for that job, no matter what the “communications division” of this enterprise says.

The message being communicated to the 300 million shareholders is being muddied not only by the other candidates for the job but by its own communications division. They all have their own agendas but when all factors are considered, Fred is still the most qualified candidate, just as Ronald Reagan was when he took over to lead our nation.

It is normal to be affected by the critics, the false accusations, the unrealistic promises of others, the influence that money has on the process. That is, unfortunately, what the American political experience has become. While all candidates extol the “catch phrase of the day” put out by the communications division, someone needs to take the lead in changing the way things are done in this process.

Sen. Thompson is best positioned to do this and with the right message and the right strategy for the next series of “job interviews”, he can still get the job of CEO of this enterprise we call “the United States of America.

The Media Is Not Doing Its Job

We, the “shareholders”, need to ignore the “communications division” and remind them that it is our job to select the next president.

I am personally tired of being told what the most important issue is – the war in Iraq, “change”, immigration, or the economy. They are all important issues and no enterprise would hire someone who would focus only on one aspect of the business. If the media asks us if any of the mentioned issues (among all the others) are irrelevant to the selection of the next leader, no one in this country would set aside any of these topics of discussion. The fact is that they all matter to the selection of the next president. The latest catch phrase – “It’s the economy, stupid” – is certainly important but I, for one, do not appreciate being called “stupid” nor do I think it is the only issue of importance right now.

Every four years, the American people are faced with the question of who should lead them and they need to study the entire curriculum to determine what the right answer is. They need to me reminded that 60-second “CliffNotes” are not adequate when answering the question of who is most qualified and they must research all possible candidates, as well as their effect on the nation and the world.

In short, our “communications division” should lead us “shareholders” into discovering where to find the candidates’ policies on all issues. They should not be setting the agenda for the candidates or telling them what issue should matter the most.

All issues matter.

The “Hiring” Process

When a corporation considers a new CEO to lead the company, the first thing they consider when selecting a candidate is their résumé. No corporation would ever hire a person who could negatively affect the long-term welfare of their enterprise. Similarly, no corporation would hire a candidate that has shown inconsistent managerial experience in their past or repeated failures in leadership.

One of the most important questions during the interview process is undoubtedly the one where a candidate is asked “what makes you better than anyone else applying for this job?” How that question is answered not only illustrates talents but it also demonstrates how much you want that job.

Senator Thompson has a résumé that outshines all the others from either party. While Fred has pointed this out repeatedly, it is time to be more forceful in demonstrating this by using the corporate analogy. A CEO needs to be tough and demonstrate that during the interview process. While Fred did this with success in the last debate, that same message needs to be communicated repeatedly in radio and TV ads. This is not an “attack” strategy. This is simply pointing out why Fred is better than all the others when it comes to choosing the next CEO of this nation. If Fred wants the job, he needs to demonstrate that he’s got the “gravitas” to lead the most powerful enterprise to ever exist. It’s time to get tough.

The “Enterprise” Is Not Broken

Speaking of said enterprise, the Unites States of America, according to some candidates, is becoming a terrible place. We’re causing wars and increasing terrorism. We’re going broke and becoming poorer. We’re destroying the future of our planet with our environmental positions. We’re shutting our borders and telling people to go away.

Again, the “communications division” has set an agenda for the “shareholders” and is not giving them the complete picture, just the 60-second “CliffNotes.”

The United States does not want war but must defend itself when attacked. The United States still has the most powerful economy in the world. The United States is doing more than any nation to develop the technologies that will reduce pollution and wants to ensure that every polluting nation adheres to the same universal standards it is asked to follow. Finally, the United States welcomes immigrants that respect the process to become citizens when they follow the proper procedures.

Again, let’s look at the corporate analogy.

Would a corporation sit by idly when faced with a hostile takeover? Would a market-leading corporation completely revamp its’ financial strategy when, in reality, only a few adjustments need to be made to keep in going in the right direction? Would a corporation comply with regulations affecting productivity when competitors are not required to do so? Finally, would a corporation simply let a complete stranger work in their offices if they didn’t go through the hiring process and simply decided to show up and start working?

The fact is that the Unites States is still the greatest nation in the history of the world and others around the world are look up to us or are jealous. They either want to be on our side or destroy us. We are to the world, in essence, what Microsoft is to the computer industry.

When a change in direction was needed at Microsoft with the creation of the Internet, they didn’t abandon the business plan. They stuck to their overall plan while re-adjusting their priorities and they thrived. The United States does not need to be “overhauled.” It just needs to adjust priorities and allocate more funds to some “divisions” while reducing funding or eliminating other “divisions.“ But Americans should never be told that America and its leadership are “broken.” We may have some priorities to address but we are not facing bankruptcy and we will, as always, come out better and stronger, just like Microsoft did.

We are still the greatest nation ever and will be for a long time.

Why Sen. Thompson Must Continue the Interview Process

We are all shareholders in this “corporation.” That includes all those who would want to assume the role of CEO. Their future will be affected by the next change in leadership as much as ours. Unfortunately, the list of candidates only includes one true conservative – Fred Thompson. All the others have résumés that either demonstrate contempt for the corporation, failed leadership, or policies they supported that has eroded the true purpose of government by the people and for the people.

These same candidates have all adopted the “catch phrase of the day” method of campaigning, or have pandered to select groups of voters that will put them “over the top.” Whether it is business people, Evangelicals, veterans, or border security advocates, each of these groups has been individually targeted for the sole purpose of garnering votes for that particular state.

The only candidate that has shown no preference in his outreach to all Americans is Fred Thompson. While other candidates are splintering the Republican Party into factions, Fred is the only candidate that understands how the Reagan Coalition worked and how it led this country back from Carter’s “malaise.”

The worst part is that “media pundits” who complain about how this country is becoming more divided (including most conservative commentators) are the same ones feeding this monster by associating such groups with candidates. Huckabee to the Evangelicals, McCain to the military and independents, Romney to the business world. At the end of the day, the Reagan Coalition is completely split and those same conservative commentators align themselves with “who is most likely to win against the Democrats” as opposed to who will best represent the Reagan philosophy of a strong and united America.

That message has to come loud and clear from Sen. Thompson within the Republican ranks at the same time he illustrates the fact that he is the only person who could possibly keep the coalition together. People have got to stop listening to pundits and pollsters who put out predictions of how things will play out in a Presidential election eight months from now. They can’t even remotely predict with any accuracy what the numbers will be in two weeks. Again, this is our enterprise’s “communications division” misleading us into trusting them to report the situation accurately. I don’t care if it’s the networks, CNN, Fox News or MSNBC.

These people don’t do their jobs properly and are wrecking the country by dividing it into factions. They should be ignored and we should do our own research.

I have done that and that is why I continue to support Fred Thompson.

He has positions that are clear and detailed on all issues that are facing this country at this time. Some are so profoundly logical that they have been taken by other candidates as their own. He is not a knee-jerk politician who will pander to one group or another, and he will certainly not let the media dictate to him what should be his focus. He speaks to the hearts and minds of all Americans. Above all he has a track record of being intelligent, honest, hard-working, trustworthy and above all, consistent. He has the best résumé of the lot to lead this “enterprise” we call the United States.

This is how Reagan built his coalition. Thompson is the only one who can do the same.
