A new report warns against a lack of dialogue and a widening gap between Islam and the West.
Danes are among the most critical of Islam, according to a report by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Some 79 percent of Danes responded in a poll that they considered more interaction with the Muslim world as a threat.
The worry was shared by a large majority in other European countries such as Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain, where up to 67 percent of the population feared more Western interaction with Muslim communities.
The message of the report was clear: there was a widening gap between the West and Islam.
'There is an alarmingly low optimism regarding dialogue between the two worlds,' said Klaus Schwab, founder of the WEF, to Berlingske Tidende newspaper.
The WEF had conducted surveys in 21 countries (half of which were Muslim) throughout 2007. And the general picture was one of distrust.
The Danes' and other Europeans' views on interaction with the Islamic world as a threat was, according to the report, due to a 'growing fear' of the 'Islamic threat' against their European identities.
This assumption was based on 'increased immigration from predominantly Muslim regions' the report said.
Smart people, the Danes.
get a backbone and a new government
The question is, will the fear turn into effective action before it’s too late?
smart people. very smart.
do they even have an “army” to defend themselves there?
I had to read the headline twice: I thought it said “Dems” not “Danes”! HA

Claire Danes?
Could it be all those Danish flags that were burned with chants of death and beheading?
probably unionized
They THINK it, but are they doing a damned thing about it? That is the $10,000 question!
As opposed to....?
Spiders?
Snakes?
Russians?
Clowns?
Jehovah Witnesses?
Too bad the Danes are no longer Vikings....they would know how to handle the islamofascists.
That is the question that may cost them their lives.
I think the danes should invite the islamists to a game of soccer :-)
The ancient Danish Vikings must be turning over in their graves... the wussification of Europe continues...
They damn well better do something...
Unfortunately for them, their leaders come from the same school of d*ckless leadership as U.S. leaders, and they are now surrounded by a mob of animals who are not only sucking their tax dollars but completely hostile to everything about Denmark. And they're right there next door.
I have to believe the invasion of Muslims into Western countries is nothing but totally planned and intentional.
Muslim "dialogue"...
How about all these snappy responses, WC?
An army wouldn’t help for the problem of heaving a million or so slammites out of a western country; no European country is going to have any army anywhere near big enough. The people themselves will have to get involved.
Good for the Danes!
Wish they had asked me......
And begin practicing Christianity again (militant version preferred). That’ll give ‘em backbone and make the mohammedans think twice. Let ‘em tango a bit, I suspect the old Viking blood may stir a bit too and maybe the mohammedans will shut the F up and start to leave. The problem is socialism and political correctness (and secular humanism) has replaced their former Christianity and well, this is the problem with the rest of Europe. Time for a local Crusade and send the muzzies packing for home. Time is short....
Gee, ya think?
Fearful? I’d say a well founded wariness.
Any thoughtful person who knows history and religion would be anti-Islam. Along with Communism, Naziism, and the Black Death, Islam has been responsible for more death and destruction on the face of the planet than just about anything else since the last asteroid impact. Islam was started by predators. It has spread by predation. It has lived off the decaying corpses of the civilizations it has destroyed. It is a vast, ancient sea of corruption, oppression, fanaticism, and ignorance lapping up against the shores of the present, kept alive by the fortuitous accident of living above huge reserves of petroleum.
I'd consider it a threat too - to Wahabi Islam (see Iraq and Afghanistan).
Some may not know that Danish troops have deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. They’re not just “fearful,” they’re doing something about it. And they have this Yank’s thanks.

According to his legend, he was the son of Geoffrey (the historical Gudfred), king of Denmark. In La Chevalerie Ogier de Danemarche, he had a son who was slain by Charlot, son of Charlemagne; seeking revenge, he sought out and slew Charlot, and was only barely prevented from killing Charlemagne himself. He resisted Charlemagne for seven years, but made peace with him in order to fight at Charlemagne's side against the Saracens, in which battle he slew the giant Brehus.
According to folklore the statue will come alive when Denmark is in great danger, and Holger Danske will save the country.

Opps
“Holgar” should be “Holger”
This is not surprising since the “dialog” consists of Islamists threatening to kill Danes.
- Denmark, a NATO member, has a decent army in comparison to its population.
Some would say Denmark (as well as most other European countries), has been far too naive in the area of Muslim Immigration. However, a lot of Danes have changed their attitudes towards Islam. Naturally, the violent Muslim reactions to the Danish Mohammed caricatures has a lot to do with it all, but before this controversy there was already a strong opposition to Islam and politics making excuses for the behavior of Muslim immigrants among native Danes.
Denmark has a tradition of hospitality and display of trust towards foreigners. In fact, most Danes initially kept their heads very cool even during the Nazi occupation during WWII. On the other hand, when the Danes had managed to form a competent resistance movement many countrymen fought bravely against the invaders. Conservatives, Socialists and others fought side by side.
A special source of inspiration to Danish patriots has always been the legend about of the old Viking King Holger Danske/Ogier the Dane:
“Like Frederick Barbarossa, Saint Wenceslas and King Arthur, in Danish legend Ogier becomes a king in the mountain; he is said to dwell in the castle of Kronborg, his beard grown down to the floor, and to sleep there until some date when Denmark is in mortal danger, at which time he will rise up and deliver the nation.”
Maybe, he’s beginning to awake?
If thou comest on them in the war, deal with them so as to strike fear in those who are behind them, that haply they may remember. - Sura 8:57
Fear is for weak people.
“The ancient Danish Vikings must be turning over in their graves...”
Just like the Founding Fathers and all heroic Americans from bygone years.
I’ve known a few Danes. By and large, they are nice, intelligent people, very patient and forbearing, but where others have a line in the sand, they have a CLIFF. You can go to the edge of that cliff, look down at the jagged rocks below, and pull back, but once you go over that edge, you ain’t coming back. I wasn’t surprised when Jyllands-Posten put those cartoons up and told the mullahs to stuff it.
Isn’t Denmark one of the few remaining countries still committing troops to the war effort? If so, they deserve applause!
Mine too. I am 1/2 Danish (mom was a Dane). These are tough guys (read about WWII's resistance to the Nazi's) for such a small country (home of the Vikings).
Tak, Danmark!
“..the statue will come alive when Denmark is in great danger, and Holger Danske will save the country.”
And while you’re at it Holger, please save America too.
Their ultra liberal values out them into this situation. Now they are learning the price they will pay for their unrealistic ideals.
“How about all these snappy responses, WC?”
- I’d say resistance to Islam looks very strong in the US.
But just like over here in Europe, a lot of people are very naive in America and just like in the case of the Old World, journalism and the academic world of the USA is predominantely in the hands of Liberals, Socialists and others who couldn’t care less about true Western values.
In the long run, Christianity and Western values is definitely threatened in all of our countries.
There was an article in the Financial Times this past weekend which made the rather cogent argument that socialist scandanavians didn’t fully realize that their “utopia of fairness” was predicated on a share cultural consensus. In other words, a homogeneous, non-Muslim society.
Spain is at 67% which does NOT surprise me. I’ve never met a Spaniard who had a good thing to say about Muslims.
They have every right to be. Fear is often the first step in survival. islam is a death cult. It has no ennobling aspects. None.
You wish! (me too)
The first to recognize the new American Republic, as I recall.
the first to recognize the new American Republic, as I recall.
Defending Europe has been Americas job for too long. It allowed European nations to spend their money going socialist, instead of defending themselves.
Yep, and all her sisters from “the virgin suicides”. They are the royal dane family of dane land.
Some “Danes” claim immigration is a good thing...
- Nice to hear an American recognize that there are Europeans who risk their lives too in the WOT.
At the same time, as a European, I think we could do a lot more in this field and I understand Americans who feel we don’t contribute enough against fighting a common enemy.
In any case, the WOT will last over a long period of time and there is plenty of time to turn things right.
I choose to concentrate on the many positive signs of an improved dialog between Europe and America and think about where this could take us. To begin with, perhaps we can agree Sarkozy is a lot better spokesman for ordinary Europeans than Chirac was. Chiracs behavior was an insult, not only to the United States of America.
