Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

Why, I know that you are a strong social conservative and Huckabee is certainly better on abortion and euthanasia then Mitt Romney, John McCain, or God forbid Rudy Giuliani. I think we have let the fiscal conservatives sell us a bill of goods on Huckabee. They are mad that he doesn’t toe the party line on all of their issues so they call him a threat to the party and a socialist but many of them are willing to carry water for Rudy Giuliani.

I’m not depressed. I don’t let politics make that way. I’m a bit disappointed he did this, but far more disappointed he dropped out. But it ain’t gonna ruin my day.

No, Alice, but he’s probably going to be your nominee.

Bingo!

In a conservative's eyes, they're all the same.

Except for Alan Keyes, but some of his cheese has slid off the hors d'ovre, so to speak.

Still, he's the perfect protest vote...

Agreed.

But it is a bit disconcerting.

However, if the Hag wins, it may do more than ruin one day for a lot of us...........

Exactly - thanks for injecting some sanity into this discussion. I can’t believe how fast some people are willing to turn on a good man who has fought all his life for what we believe in.

He didn’t have to endorse anybody. As a Duncan fan I prefer that option.

I would like to hear from the horses mouth his reasoning behind his endorsement tho. It just makes no sense to me.

I would say that Huck is the only one of the remaining candidates that has always been solid on Pro-life and 2A.

True.

I have such mixed feelings about all the candidates.

I doubt it. Giuliani isn't polling very well in Florida, and if he doesn't place a strong second there I think he's finished.

I think it will be Romney in the end.

And I actually might be able to support him as compared with the others that are left.

seems like some people have difficulty disagreeing with someone's decision without vilifying him.

Thanks for that bit of sanity.

I am afraid that FR may become a conservative DailyKos if all this ugliness over the primary does not subside.

I figure the media goes after Huckabee next, then Romney. If they keep dropping out, all he has to do is walk in and pick up his trophy.

I think the MSM likes Huck because he would be so easy for Hillary to demagogue and beat like a drum. They already luuuuv McCain. I doubt they will go after Huck or McCain.....unless they actually win the nomination.

Yes! 35 years now—hard to believe. Our country would be so much better if Roe v Wade had never existed. If the Warren Court had not been packed. My grandson turned l6 yesterday, and I was there when he was born, what a thrill. My daughter his proud mother, remarked after awhile that she had wondered the week before if he*d be born on the 22nd.He was, and she said, well, that*s my statement against abortion!(she has 2 boys, 2 girls; he was her lst)
