This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:
"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of Americas industrial base."
"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

This can only mean he wants the VP spot. I cannot fathom any other reason why a true conservative would endorse Huckabee.

Why he endorsed the one candidate who is most likely to lose and can’t really do any favors. I am not sure if I agree with Rep. Hunters endorsement but it was clearly based on principle and not on politics.

If Hunter did that then he just relegated himself to almost complete obscurity when it comes to national politics.
I doubt though that he really had a chance for the VP slot.
I am surprised about this.

To: TitansAFC
Well, I supported Hunter. But I do not support this endorsement. I personally feel that McCain would be the worst on immigration, followed by Huckabee. His record says as much, as did his own mouth to begin with in the debates when defending his Arkansas record of offering in-state tuition to illegal alien children.
Thomspon was my second choce by far. I now will support Romney as I believe he is the nearest thing to conservative on most issues of those left standing.

Probably because there are no true conservatives left running. So everyone has to pick the parts of the conservative message that are most dear to them.
