Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

I see nothing official or any links to the “statement” made by Hunter.

No I’m not hurt by it, nor am I likely to vote for any of the pigmy RINOs still running.

Me too. However, I would say that Huck is the only one of the remaining candidates that has always been solid on Pro-life and 2A. I do not see how there is so much support for Romney, without these two critical aspects. A gun-grabbing baby killer is not going to get elected, no matter how hard they push. Immigration? Ptah! They are all the same on that... So I can see why Hunter went the way he did.

It was based on one word:

Add another 20 votes to Huckabee’s column.

It will be interesting now that pissant will be on Huckabee's team. ;-) Huckabee will be doomed for sure. Maybe that's what Hunter is counting on. :-D

Of the remaining candidates, Huckabee is the most acceptable if for no other reason than he can be counted on to appoint conservative judges and justices. The same cannot be said for McCain, Romney, and certainly no Guiliani.

I could easily see Huck nominating a Harriet Miers-type because he "trusts her heart." Easily. And then you find out a couple years later you just got another Souter or Kennedy.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't back Hunter in the primaries. I'd look foolish now.

Granted, if Thompson endorses McCain, I'll look foolish anyway. Hopefully I backed the right man on priciple and Fred endorses Romney or no one at all.

"a man of outstanding character and integrity"

That's simply not true. And the fact that Hunter doesn't realize it is ....

Mike Huckabee. The Socialist From Arakansas.

Careful. When you say "Socialist" his followers mistakenly think you're referring to social issues. lol.

Really, its no big deal to people other than FReepers. Believe it or not, most people out there still don’t even have an idea who Hunter is.

Well, we know that Romney doesn't share Duncan Hunter's view of trade. I do think Romney understands China, probably better than Duncan Hunter in terms of our economy, if not militarily.

Mitt Romney Remarks:

FREE TRADE "My growth factors include free trade. There will be a growing clamor for isolation and protectionism. That might feel good for a few years. But then, we'd be passed by the products that met the new world competitive standards like we were standing still. Our cars would be as out of date as the Soviets' were after their experiment in protectionism. Our barriers against services would be thinner than air. Protectionism would virtually guarantee that America would become a second tier economy, with a second class standard of living. It sounds nice not to have to compete, but if you don't compete, you start down a road that leads to economic collapse.

"At the same time, we have to make sure the rules of free trade are fair. It's time to make sure China's markets, for example, are opened to our goods. And it's time to make sure they enforce our intellectual property rights as well as they enforce their own - try to counterfeit a Beijing Olympic tee-shirt and see what happens to you. No, the easy money for criminal counterfeiters is in software, entertainment, pharmaceuticals, and high tech - the things that America exports.
