HUNTER ENDORSES HUCKABEE FOR PRESIDENTFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 23, 2008CONTACT: Gary Becks (619) 334-1655Washington, D.C. - - - Congressman Duncan Hunter, who withdrew his candidacy for the Republican Presidential nomination on January 19, 2007 , today endorsed Mike Huckabee."I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America's industrial base.""Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.# # #

I think Duncan was giving the Republican base a little "pay back" for not getting behind his campaign.
I'm serious. I have to believe he has a bitter taste in his mouth after putting out his effort, and being rejected in such a big way.
It's only natural.
I am totally gobsmacked!
Is Rod Sterling lurking around in the bushes?
HUCKABEE???????
Hunter has Jumped the Shark
I never thought Duncan Hunter was electable but admired his conservative stance. Why he supports Huckabee is a mystery to me. Maybe he was pandering all along. (I don’t know)
Hey new boy. Learn how to post properly.
At least he didn’t endorse McCain, that would have been disastrous on his part. But I agree, Huckabee isn’t much more conservative so I don’t know what he’s thinking.
Hunter is a protectionist in a free trade party. I think this issue is what really motivated his endorsement of Huckabee.
Would he have thrown to Fred first if Fred had waited, you think?
Maybe you can show me where you supported Hunter in the first place. (your posting history doesn’t seem to indicate it anywhere)
Why the shock? He is , after all, a POLITICIAN. They are liars and sneaks by design, not much difference between the bolshevik dems and the jelly fish repubs. I don’t agree with many of Ron Pauls positions, but the guy has balls and what you see is what you get.
The guy we (THAT I) was calling a “real” conservative Endorses a guy who I consider more LIBERAL than Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter combined?! What is going on?
Maybe to Hunter, it’s an issue of who not to endorse — and why? I don’t understand Hunter’s decision and at this point care little as to why.
Something to counter your protectionism rhetoric.

It amazes me that after all the praise and accolades placed upon Duncan Hunter, folks don’t just simply take him at his word. If you don’t want to vote of Huckabee...fine. However, don’t denigrate someone else because it shakes your world view. Understand, he knows Huckabee better than any of you.
Also, Hunter isn’t doing this as “pay-back” for slights. He believes what he says. Disagree if you must, but don’t write it off as dribble. If anything, learn that you are probably not as well informed as you think you are.
The reaction to Hunter’s endorsement of Huckabee here on FR is starting to scare me. I have never seen such a fickle group in my entire life. Also, I find it as scary how quickly this group endorses Romney. Absolutely unbelievable and just plain damnable foolishness.
Time for you all to step back, take a breath, then reassess your positions and backing. You are headed in the wrong direction.
Eeeehhh, go back to your crowns and coloring books! I didn’t know he was gonna do that!
A bit over the top.
It’s your civic duty to be clairvoyant. Shame on you!
I don’t think Duncan would resort to payback, but that said, I have NOOOOO idea what he was thinking. He couldn’t be more wrong.
Oh, well, then, sorry about that, who did you say I’ll be voting for again, apologize that I missed it.
“I dont agree with many of Ron Pauls positions, but the guy has balls and what you see is what you get.”
There is just no tactfull way to say this. Ron Paul is a bordline lunatic was occassional moments of lucidity. Don’t ever hold him up as an example to be admired. He is just a libertarian trying to disrupt the GOP.
If you take a closer look at Huck, be sure you take a really close look.
You would be surprised what you might find out and none of it is conservative.
They say this huckabozo is going to run for CA governor.
It would be kind for him to say that outright. Confusion in the party is growing.
two weeks ago I thought i heard he was staying in until the convention
there is something in the water.
It scares me, too. It's almost violent, not to mention bereft of loyalty. Some of these people seem to be the stereotyped black/white - no shades of gray conservative caricature that the DUers love to ridicule. Deserving, in this case. People can change and ideas can change.
that's why i donated - i thought - to a man of principle and message -
i knew he would probably would not win any primary
but, that's the way it goes
I'm serious. I have to believe he has a bitter taste in his mouth after putting out his effort, and being rejected in such a big way.
It's only natural.
That was immediately my first thought when I first read the headline and it hasn't been replaced by anything else. A close second would be to dis McCain for his maverick posture and Romney for his delegate success.
I would say Hunter is a lame duck Congressman as far as the Republican Party goes BUT if Huckabee were to be the nominee (Gads!) he would be out and about on the bandwagon.
I once considered Hunter but once his campaign was a no-go he got less and less media attention and it tends to only get worse and worse.
sad.
“Oh, well, then, sorry about that, who did you say Ill be voting for again, apologize that I missed it.”
Sorry, but I’m a little slow on the uptake and often can’t read subtile nuances of meaning between the lines. Meaning, I don’t understand your point.
If this is in reference to Romney, I have noted that the entire forum now seems to be supporting him now. That is unbelievable stupidity. You would be better off not voting at all. However, one has to make their on calls. I just think folks need to rethink changing from Fred or Duncan to Romney. Folks, he isn’t what you think he is.
If you don’t like and can’t support Mike...so be it, but don’t be a fool and vote for Romney. Also, understand that Hunter may be just as good a man as you all said he was from the get go. He might just know things you don’t.
If he actually believes that Huckabee will be strong on immigration, he is either uninformed (in which case he should have said nothing) or cynical.
Hillary and the press would steam roll Huckabee.
I agree with your assesment of Paul, he is nuts, but if he was trying to screw with the repubs, he would be spinning his themes to appeal to the republican base, but we all know who he is, so he (Paul ) is not hiding anything and his positons in the polls reflects this.
The way I figure it, Dunc figured he had to endorse *somebody*. The four remaining being equally horrible, he put the names in a hat and Huckabee’s what came up.
Oh big deal...you’re certainly a fair-weather fan.
What a bunch of unproven BS. He said he was against Romney because a company that was ressurrected by Bain Capital (and then sent on its merry way) had done some questionable dealings with China. Hunter was probably right that the company was less than patriotic but at the same time he showed no proof that Romney had a hand in the company's sale because - tada - there wasn't any. The standard that Hunter had created for Romney was one where any action by a company saved by Bain, Romney should be held responsible even when he had no role in whatever "bad" decision was made. That was when I stopped holding my "Duncan is really solid but he's just not getting any traction" assessment.
1) He Raised Taxes as Governor in California
The Washington Post | Mar 8, 1967 | By Sydney Kossen :
SACRAMENTO, March 7-- Gov. Ronald Reagan, who has made austerity in government his watchword, will propose a record state tax increase of almost $900 million Wednesday.
2) Hes Soft on Iranian Terrorists !!!
The Washington Post | Sept 14, 1980 | By Edward Walsh :
Republican presidential nominee Ronald Reagan said last night that the United States should agree to virtually all the new demands of Iran's Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in return for the prompt release of the American hostages.
3) His own Aides say Hes UNQUALIFIED !!!
Ex-Aide: Reagan Unqualified
The Washington Post | Feb 6, 1976 | By Lou Cannon :
President Ford's embattled Florida campaign is gaining a new lease on life under the direction of a former Ronald Reagan campaign manager who believes that the California ex-governor is "totally unqualified to be President."
4) Hes Indecisive and cant run a Campaign
The Washington Post | Feb 29, 1980 | By Margot Hornblower :
John P. Sears, the spurned Machiavelli of Republican politics, yesterday drew a portrait of Ronald Reagan's campaign as an operation plagued with incompetence, internal rivalries and an indecisive candidate, unprepared on the issues and insulated from the problems on his staff.
5) Even the Democrats are MORE SERIES about border control than Reagan !!!
Wetbacks Curb Asked by Mondale
The Washington Post | Apr 17, 1969 | :
Sen. Walter F. Mondale, DMinn., complained yesterday that thousands of Mexicans illegally cross the border daily to compete for U.S. farm jobs. He said he had dressed in old clothes and gone incognito to watch them cross.
It’s down to McCain or Romney. Most of us supported other candidates initially but those two are who’s left in any serious way. Since McCain is unacceptable that leaves Romney. And when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration Rudy, McCain, and Huckabee competed with the democrats to see who could be more liberal. Romney on the other hand was pretty tough, and in a liberal state.
That may be true. The two are miles apart. Hunter is another
Senator Bob Smith, write him off.
Guys, I am telling ya...the most conservative man left in this race is Mitt Romney. And he ain’t bad.
I was going for an electable conservative, and thought long and hard between Fred and Mitt.
I liked Duncan’s ideology...the ABC News “where you stand” quiz on contemporary issues put Duncan, Mitt and Fred in my top 3 “matches”.
Fred is gone, so is Duncan. I urge you to just look at the “issues” section of Mitt’s web site. What you’ve heard about Mitt being a liberal just isn’t so.
Good luck, and I’m sorry your guy isn’t in it...but I hope we can agree to defeat John McLame.
That guarantees a Democrat victory if he does so.
