I know Duncan Hunter, and have been proud of him before.
But I have never been prouder of him than I am today. I got goosebumps when I heard the announcement on Fox.
He is a man of principle and integrity. UNCOMPROMISING principle! UNCOMPROMISING integrity!
It is obvious this is not going to win him fans. But that has never mattered to him before, it doesn’t matter to him now.
The problem is not with him. It is with those who do not know him.

Maybe Huckelberry Hound offered Duncan the Sec Def. position if he supported his campaign, politics as usual........
The fact is we don’t know any of these candidates outside their political life. Hunter may know these men personally and know them in a different way than we do. At the same time, Hunter may be a different man than his voting and media perception. I would bet, (hope), it is the former.
I think it would be courtesy to ping him.
I had always thought politics came from the Greek word poli (meaning many) and ticks, meaning blood sucking parasites.

The 'true conservatives,' the ones who gave Duncan the cold shoulder from day one... Who somehow made him into a second Fred Thomson thinking that would get them the 'social-conservatives' vote, are just pi*** off and desperate.
The idea is simple, by smearing Duncan, they smear Huck... Duh :)
I was just watching Dan Abrams (which I normally don’t do), and he was saying that if a candidate doesn’t invite the media along on the campaign bus, plane, etc., there’s much less media coverage. Since Hunter had very few funds to begin with, that may be one of the reasons he was covered so little. That, and being a conservative, of course.
Man in the coonskin cap wants eleven dollar bills and you only got ten.
Apparently, Duncan Hunter is not a real conservative after all. We’ll see what Fred Thompson does. If Fred endorses McCain, we’ll know he was a phony conservative all along, too.
I would be more heartsick (about Hunter endorsing Huckabee) if I thought it really means votes away from Romney but it’s such a small number that I think it doesn’t matter.
Huckabee is an old friend to FreeRepublic but he is more liberal than most democrats so I have lost all respect for Hunter today.
Hunter jumped in bed with the liberal media in their hatred and shunning of Mitt Romney. Any guy who is hated as much as Romney is by the MSM is my kinda guy.
Romney, BTW, was great on Hannity & Colmes tonight. Absolutely wonderful. I am so proud to support Mitt Romney!

Good post!! A pox on knee-jerk reactionaries. There is always more to things than meets the eye. History will show whether Hunter is right or wrong in this regard. His endorsement isn’t enough to get me to vote for Huckabee, however, but it does make me think and wonder what I may be missing.
Duncan Hunter is still the man you “thought he once was.”
Did you support Hunter for what he said, or what he actually DID. All these Presidential candidates talked about the War on Terror and securing the border. Duncan Hunter has actually fought in a war, his son served in the War on Terror, and Duncan actually DID something about securing the border before he ran for President.
I chose Hunter because he was a man of action. While I’ve never cared much for Huckabee’s immigration stances and nanny-statism, what other choice did Hunter have in endorsing someone? Flip Romney?
Maybe he should have just stayed quiet and not endorsed any of the remaining candidates after Fred’s departure, but the guy has done enough in his career to make me believe that he honestly thinks Huckabee is the right guy at this point.
Will that be enough for me to vote for Huckster in the LA Primary?? Probably not. Hunter’s already on the ballot so he’ll get my vote. But I feel good he didn’t go out an endorse that insencere jerk Romney.
Try this with less colorful language (I apologize): Hunter can make more than a 2-sentence case for Huck here on FR since both he and his son are nominally freepers - if he’s serious about this endorsement.

Why? Duncan Hunter is GOOD. Maybe he knows something that you do not.
Don't dismiss the idea that Hunter and Huckabee have had talks and that there is a place in a Huckabee administration for Hunter to implement the issues about which he feels strongest. Hunter may think there is no chance whatsoever to have any sway with the other candidates. Just a thought.
He’s bitter that Tom Tancredo endorsed Romney instead of him, so he tried to sabotage Romney.

The RNC decided two years ago who they were going to have for their nominee. The primary is the biggest sham I have ever seen.
Well, I’m not going to give this much as I didn’t know about Hunter until the campaign started. I have moved over to Romney and will stay there.

What are the choices for him? All four of the remainding candidates have serious warts in the shamnesty department. Tancredo chose Mitt who voiced support for McCain's bill but has since allegedly seen the light. Hunter chose Huck who supported state programs for illegals but has since allegedly seen the light.
Hunter's endorsement just shows how bleak the currently reality is for all of us. If you drink beer instead of Kool-Aid, the choices are sobering. A waste of good beer and a waste of the GOP nominating process.

Maybe he should tell everyone what that is then. Duncan was a fierce warrior for the border. Huck calls it unChristian to turn away illegals and makes a deal with Mexico for a consulate at a rate most Americans would die for. Might as well say he gave it to them. That consulate allows for IDs.
How can Hunter put that together with the strong stance he took? Color me confused. That is why the shock. Its a valid questioning of something Duncan was so vehement about. The other thing that Duncan was standing strong on was China. He swiped at Romney for his record of doing business, yet gives Huck a pass for his record of doing business south of the border? HUH?
