Some think ex-president stooping on campaign trail (Bubba criticized for being unstatesmanlike)
Boston Globe ^ | 1/24/08 | Marcella Bombardieri

Posted on 01/24/2008 4:21:24 AM PST by xtinct

AIKEN, S.C. - Bill Clinton was already working the crowd with a vociferous appeal to vote for his wife when the dozens of people jostling to get inside the auditorium provoked a campaign worker to cry out, "Adults should not be acting this way!"

Coincidentally, Clinton's sharp- elbowed advocacy leading up to Saturday's South Carolina primary is prompting some pundits and fellow Democrats to voice a similar sentiment: Should a former president be acting this way?

Several prominent Democrats say no. In recent days, they have publicly warned that he is hurting his party and his own status as elder statesman by taking on the highly charged role of critic-in-chief of Hillary Clinton's main Democratic rival, Barack Obama.

Obama has accused the Clintons of double-teaming him with inaccurate attacks, complaining during Monday night's debate, "I can't tell who I'm running against sometimes."

Bill Clinton is unapologetic about jumping into the game. Yesterday, he bristled at the Obama camp's criticism of his role and lashed out at the media for fixating on race.

Clinton fans who have come out to see him in South Carolina - where he has emerged as primary spokesman for his wife's campaign - say they believe he is acting the way any husband would if his wife's career was on the line. Hillary Clinton made much the same argument during Monday night's contentious debate with Obama, saying, "I think we both have very passionate and committed spouses who stand up for us."

But Bill Clinton is no ordinary spouse.

He’s never acted even remotely “statesmanlike” - why the heck would they expect him to now??

But Bill Clinton is no ordinary spouse.

No, he's certainly not.

But this is a game that's been done before: Hillary Clinton is merely a stalking horse for Bill Clinton's third presidency. Governor George Wallace did the same thing in Alabama back in the 1960s, and Bill Clinton is reprising the role of "First Gentleman".

What I want to know is why the MSM is acting shocked -- shocked! -- that Klintoon is acting like his true self.

Given the sorry state of the GOP field, I find myself more interested in hoping that Obama can somehow push Bubba and the Hildebeast off a cliff.

Mr. Clinton was a poor statesman and representaitve of the United States while president.
I could list the many ways but suffice it to say his ejaculating in a side sink while pleasuring himself and doing Monica and selling the Lincoln bedroom are just a few ways.
How can anyone expect him to act as an adult and elder statesman when all he ever thinks of is getting his weenie waxed?
This buffoon is has been and always will be a self absorbed p.o.s. and those who follow him are just plain stupid.

I guess they somehow missed him being un-statesmanlike for the last 7 years, attacking the current sitting president at every opportunity, foreign and domestic... not to mention being un-statesmanlike the previous 8 years before that, boning interns and treating all Republicans worse than any shadowy foreigner with a bag of campaign cash to sweep under the DNC rug... or hide under a pillow in the Lincoln bedroom...

Any person that supports follows an ex-president that was impeached by the House fro obstruction and perjury, hasn't got the brains nor the right to vote to elect a dog-catcher.

Then again they're in the same clothing: acquisitions of money, status, and recognition by what ever means necessary and at the expense of the taxpayer and the US population.

Whatever repairs to the SinkEmporer’s (disgusting, sordid) “legacy” over the past 8 years is being undone every day.......by Bill Clinton’s own words and actions. How delicious.

Dick Morris is probably right about Bubba’s rants being part of a strategy to take negative attention off Hillary. But what we see on TV now is the real Bill Clinton: a petty and vindictive narcissist, driven out of control with all-consuming lust for being back in the White House.

Right on. Bill Clinton is a cut-throat politician through and through. He’s doing now what he’s always done: slit the other guy’s throat with whatever knife it takes. Usually he does it from behind where he can’t be seen; when necessary, he approaches head on.

My own personal feeling is that all he’s doing right now is drawing attention to a divide that has been virulent in American society for years — while whites hid their heads: the dominant black culture’s disdain for almost all things white.

Years ago, when I did a TV show in Baltimore when I was still naive enough to think that the dominant black culture wanted the same Norman Rockwell’s America that most middle-class whites do. One of the panelists — a prominent black Baltimore attorney, also a good friend — told me point blank on the air: “You whites just want us to be like you, and that’s never going to happen.”

Wow, I thought, old Billy has really gone off the deep end. Don’t we all want the same pleasant, peaceful, work-a-day-for-a-fair-day’s-pay lifestyle?

Since then, I have studied what the dominant black culture has done to America’s once beautiful cities and virtually every small town where they have gained the ascendancy. I’ve looked at their TV networks and listened to their “music”. And, to put it mildly, it’s not a pretty sight, or sound.

So, perhaps what Clinton is actually doing is lancing a sore none of us wanted to acknowledge even existed. He’s asking white America to look Obama in the face and say, “Do we really want someone like you — who comes from a thoroughly racist church and has built a political career pushig the radical black agenda — ruling (and i do mean ruling) our country?”

I’m not saying Bill is doing it out of any altruistic motivation — that would be impossible with a grifter like him. But, as Joseph told his brothers: “What you intended for evil, God used for good.”

Just a thought.

He was unstatesman like when he criticized the next president’s actions in foreign policy.

He is Bubba. You guys love him.

Queer activists say the same thing. Which is why their demand for same sex marriages is more about tearing down the definition of marriage than suddenly becoming monogamous.

FDR had a third term but he didn’t live to complete it. His health was not to be considered in his qualifications for office.

The Constitutional PROHIBITION on third terms came AFTER FDR. What the Clintons are engaging in is a runaround of the Constitution. They are maintaining an oligarchy and Bill has said he will sit in on Cabinet Meetings if Hillary asks him to.

She held power in their first co-presidency. This is what Hillarycare was all about.

NO THIRD TERM.

Brilliant idea!!!

Obama NOW HAS EVERY RIGHT TO SAY HE’S CAMPAIGNING AGAINST BOTH BILL & HILLARY CLINTON because it has now become obvious HE WILL BE VERY ACTIVE IN THE PRESIDENCY.

HillBillery will crash & burn.

FDR had a third term but he didn’t live to complete it. His health was not to be considered in his qualifications for office.

Actually, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected four times - 1932, 1936, 1940 and 1944. However, he died during the first year of his fourth term, and Harry S Truman served the rest of it.

The Constitutional PROHIBITION on third terms came AFTER FDR.

Actually, the 22nd Amendment, ratified in February 1951, states:

"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President, when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term."

Because the 22nd Amendment was ratified in 1951, Truman could have served more than two terms, and, in any event, any President who fills in the last two years of his predecessor's term can serve two more terms, or two and a half terms.
