I love how this woman think she's entitled to a view of Lake Tahoe.

This "poor" woman doesn't have the view she wants so, what the heck cut down a few 80 year-old ponderosa pines on government property.

Yeah, give her the chair.

Meanwhile charges still haven’t been filed against Clinton and Gore for cutting down trees on government property so they could make a joint announcement of a park dedication in Utah, against the wishes of the state.

The property is across the street from the Incline Village Championship Golf Course designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior.

Back in the good old days, RT Jones could run a bulldozer amok through such forests, build a golf course, and everyone hailed it as progress.

“..she faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count.”

I suspect that view will be somewhat less appealing than what she was trying for.

I have a piece of rental property in Florida. My elderly neighbor had someone go into my back yard and cut down a tree that was casting too much shade in her yard. When it fell, it crushed her fence, so she sent me a bill for half.

I’m sure she suppoerts McCain.

I grew up in the Berkshire hills in western Massachusetts. People would move to the area and build houses on the side of a hill and then cut down all the trees so they could get a better view. Sometimes someone would move in across the valley and they would do the same thing, so both of them had a nice view of stumps and the other guys ugly house.

I was reading an old Richard Scarry children’s book to my daughter the other night. There was a section on how the lumber industry works. A specific passage, and I read it just a bit louder, cracked me up:

“this tree is nearly 100 years old, and ready for cutting”.

Well, I read it a bit louder because Grammy, a real non-thinking “parrot” of a lib, was in the room, too. She took exception to this passage and said something. I said, “yeah, it’s not like we can’t plant more trees.”

Property values in Tahoe, go up significantly if you have even a partial view of Lake Tahoe. Many “views” easily raise the values over six figures!

If she was a judge in Seattle she could get away with it. The judge cut down a whole hill side. The trees were blocking his view. I believe he had to pay $10,000.

It seems the commercial tree company would know about the laws and educate the woman. What she did was wrong, but 10 years in prison is ridiculous.

Folks, my comments here make it seem I don’t care if old growth trees are cut down on government property by someone who shouldn’t have done it.

What would be more accurate would be to say that I don’t share the extent of your reactions to the three trees being cut down.

Should the person be taken to task? Yes, they should. Is a $250k fine for each tree and a ten year sentence for each tree reasoned? IMO it is absurd.

You don’t get ten years for killing people these days, and a fine? Not likley unless a civil trial can be won. Even then $250k per dead person. The perp generally doesn’t have $20 bucks to their name. And if they do, well, you’ve seen how successful the Simpsons have been.

When folks assign more respect to trees than human life, I leave the reservation.

Some of you have been upset at my comments. I hope this sounds more reasoned, even though I’m sure it won’t go all the way toward easing your disagreement with me.
