One of Spain's most influential dailies says that Kosovo's independence is imminent, and wrong.
"Kosovo will soon declare independence, with the backing of Germany and the United States, despite the fact that the border change was not in keeping with international law, nor EU practice, and Spain is not heard or listened to by anyone in the EU," ABC's said today in an editorial.
"The creation of an independent state for Kosovo Albanians will set a precedent for many parts of Europe with minorities who, often without reason, consider themselves discriminated," the daily wrote.
"The self-determination of Albanians in Serbia constitutes a dangerous precedent for Spain, because it will incite nationalists to demand even more strongly the right to unilaterally declare their independence," the commentary said.
The author, Perdo Schwarz, pointed out that state borders, "at least in the European continent," are inviolable, and that this principle was "more important than succumbing to the temptation to create new states in line with ethnic principle."
The article stressed that Kosovo Albanians, encouraged by the support of the UN special envoy, Martti Ahtisaari, and the promise of independence by the United States and some EU members, "did not show the least readiness to reach a reasonable agreement with Belgrade."
Ping!
Clintonism - the gift that keeps on giving.
Has Hillary said whether she’ll get the troops out of there by Christmas 2009? Bubba said Christmas, he just didn’t say what year.
This is significant to Spain because ETA is claiming that Kosovo is a model for the declaration of “indepence” of the Basque region.
Think "Basque".
Not that they don't have a legitimate gripe. But they do have their own violent, restive minority within their borders and they don't want them having their own 'country' carved out of Spain.

Well sure. And you could add Catalonia to the list as well. Language, Culture, Borders - it all gets back to that in the end.
The State Department under Bush isn't acting significantly different than it did under Clinton.
Clinton started the mess, but Bush's administration is propagating it, not opposing it.
We desperately need a more conservative President that isn't afraid to gut the State Department and rebuild it.
State department should be fumigated and started over. CIA probably as well. We’ve add both organizations in open war with the president for the past 5 to 6, arguably 8 years.
Gotta keep the troops in there to guarantee the security of the Albanian illegal alien infiltrator, Maoist, Islam jihadist, terrorist's extorted territory.
Spain is next.

Clintons BOMBED the Christians and helped the Muslims, and Kosovo has the CLEAN COAL and maybe THAT”S why Clinton LOCKED up ALL of our Clean Coal by taking the Grand Escalante Staircase in Utah!!
What about Galicia?
Then comes Scotland and Wales, and perhaps Cornwall. And maybe a Carpatho-Rusyn state in Eastern Europe.
Wow, color me surprised that at least part of Europe is waking up, however fitfully.
Janeane Garofalo: ‘It Wasn’t Hip’ to Protest Clinton’s Wars.
The Shadow Government has deliberately acted counter to the Bush Administration’s policies. Their loyalty is to the Party, not the Country.
The Islamic reaction across the world is going to be classic; that much is for sure. The OIC and its rapid followers in Amnesty International and the UN will be all over this when it means the Basque in SPain, Southern Thailand, Kashmir and Moro (Phillipines) and best of all, “palestine” become free states. Then, watch the enthusiasm dwindle and turn into more charges of prejudice against muslims when the mostly Christian Moluccas, Papua, Norht Sulawesi along with Aceh get freedom from Indonesia, Biafra from Nigeria, Kabyle from Algeria, Balochsitan from Pakistan, Sarawak from Malaysia, Southern Sudan and Darfur from Karthoum. Watch the support of the OIC,along with its allies and rioting masses of muslims everywhere, for an independent Kosovo plummet when they relaize it also means freedom in turn for everyone under their despotic thumb. It could help to emphasize this; an independent Kosovo will mean trouble for nations like Northen Nigeria, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt and Paksitan that would likely be among the most infleuntial supporters of a fundamentalist islamic Kosovo. If they don’t withdraw any support they have for Kosovo, they will soon split apart, either that or be exposed as 2-faced advocates of spreading jihad around the world.
And the lesson of Kosovo will not be lost on the illegal immigrants who are reconquering Aztlan.
An independent Kosovo is going to cause secessioist movements, from West Africa to South Asia to Mexico to SE Asia, to just erupt, permanently altering poltical boundaries. In the process, human rights groups, amnesty international and even American advocacy groups for “countries” like Kosovo and Palestine will be exposed as obscene favoratists for whom some struggles have value and others don’t-we will all knwo what determines that, of course.
