Johansson: I'm in love with Obama!

NEW YORK - Scarlett Johansson returned from the Persian Gulf with a whole lot of soldiers' trinkets and a delusion of her own engagement — to Barack Obama.
"I am engaged ... to Barack Obama," Johansson joked in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday. "My heart belongs to Barack, and that is who I am currently, finally, engaged to. Yes."
Johansson, who showed her support for the Democratic presidential candidate at the Iowa caucus earlier this month, was really just deflecting a question about rumors she might be engaged (to actor-beau Ryan Reynolds).
The 23-year-old actress talked about the warm welcome she received while visiting troops stationed in the Persian Gulf last week. Johansson dropped by U.S. bases in Kuwait on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18 as part of a USO tour in which she met about 3,500 men and women in uniform.
"Everybody that I met there was so incredibly friendly and polite and genuine and generous," she said. "They were so, so sweet. I mean, I was just amazed."
Johansson said some people ripped patches off their jackets as gifts and handed her challenge coins from their military units. One Marine offered up his St. Christopher medal. Another starstruck guy gushed: "You made my whole deployment!"
Johansson has a full plate for 2008, with the release of films including "The Other Boleyn Girl" and "He's Just Not That Into You," as well as the arrival of her debut album on May 20.
The disc, called "Anywhere I Lay My Head," features Tom Waits cover songs and one original track. "It was a really, really sort of inspired process to make this CD, and it was something I'd never done before," said Johansson, who said the album has a dreamy, ethereal quality.
On a far more serious note: Johansson was still speechless Thursday over the death of fellow actor Heath Ledger, who was found dead Tuesday in his Manhattan apartment.
"I'm really just so very shocked," she said. "He was an incredibly sweet, kindhearted and enthusiastic person. And, you know, he loved his daughter — I mean, that was like the light of his life. It's just a terrible loss."
The birkenstockers of the acting trade are nuttier than the folks at the DNC.

She’s drop-dead gorgeous, but I’m not surprised that she’s in the “democratic wing of the democratic party.” At least she goes on USO tours, so she’s not a raging anti-American. Believe me, doing that much is brave, considering the circles she has to travel in.
I’m a lot more disappointed in that witch Charlize Theron for going out of her way to slime our military, and try to demoralize our troops and their families by starring in movies that portray vets as something out of a 1970’s John Kerry speech.

I just don’t get it. I watched the whole thing, and was like “WTF was that all about”, I want my two hours back. One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, but understand a lot of people like it.

Well, coming from Hollywood, she had probably been told by "knowledgeable film directors" that all our troops were character-disordered psychopaths. I'm sure she was surprised - and now she'll find herself getting into arguments with Leftist true believers who won't be at all happy with her public description of what she saw.
Something that's quite common among the leftist elite... They're shocked that the people in the military are good, decent people. They've been raised to believe that the only people in the military are either crazed, bloodthirsty murderers, or illiterate losers who simply couldn't find a job anywhere else. They're shocked to learn that the VAST majority of those serving are there because of a choice they made, to protect people like Scarlet.
Frankly, I'm thrilled that some on the left have decided to go on tour for the USO, no matter what their personal reasons. They boost the moral of the troops, and no matter what the personal beliefs of the "stars" happen to be, if they go over and it makes the troops feel better about their sacrifices, then it's a good thing. And we might just be lucky: The "stars" might just change some of their personal beliefs as well.

Shocking how someone can go visit the good men and women overseas, and then return to praise the one politician telling us the war is lost and we need to get the troops out.
I am pleasantly surprised she went over there, and she deserves great credit for that action.
