Sounds reasonable to me. I feel sure Romney has the best chance of beating the Democrats in November. He’s also more conservative than McCain or Giuliani.
Huck is pro life but anti conservative/anti american in every other way. The Catholic Church, my church, is pro life but leans towards socialism in so many ways. At least in my parish.
Pro life/abortion issue isn’t the only issue here and I won’t just vote for a candidate who is pro life but anti conservative in every other way. We’re never going to overturn Roe v Wade no matter how much we wish it so and that’s not all bad as long we continue to decrease abortions as what’s happening now. And if the 2nd amendment keeps getting chipped away and all our other liberties keep getting chipped away, it won’t matter if we have a pro life president since we’ll all be submitting to Islam or dead or living in a country that is no longer the America my father fought for during WWII. The pro life issue is important but it’s not the only issue.
Excellent post. Huck won’t be the nom so I won’t throw away my vote. Out of McCain and Romney, I trust Romney more and think he has a shot to win the general. I pray, no matter what happens in this election, that we have a party that is conservatice, social and fiscal and pro america/military/defense in 4 years. I’m not willing to wait 4 years and just let the dems, Hillary or Obama or Edwards, lead the country until then.
I think he does too. He’s younger than McCain if we’re going by that, and that is an issue imo, he speaks better than McCain and he’s not nuts like McCain is. I think Rommey won’t completely suck as a POTUS as McCain would. I still like Guiliani more than McCain and think Guiliani would be a better POTUS than McCain and even Romney but my two faves are out so this is what’s left. I’m not going to throw away my vote or make a statement in this election but will make a statement as I have been with my elected officials. I’m starting to think none of it really matters, we have no real say anyway. And that sucks, for lack of a better term. We need a real conservative party that has a shot at winning.
Another conservative might think small government is the most important issue, so he will choose Romney because he hasn't flipped on that where he has flipped on abortion and guns. Another conservative might think the war is most important so she chooses McCain because that is the issue he hasn't flipped on.
We have no uniter right now. We are fractured as a movement.
That is right on point. Excellent post.
Exactly! Which is why I don’t and will never support him. Single issue voter is used to marginalize all voters not just pro lifers.
Heh, it’s the most important issue this election and really the most important issue ever. None of us will have any freedoms if we continue to ignore the threats to our freedoms.
I want to keep my head and I want a president who will tell the nuts to fuck off. I really don’t think the majority of amercians realize just how crucial this all is - it’s all about taxes (and I hate taxes esp when I have to keep paying them) but we won’t have to worry about taxes or anything else if we’re conquered and some dont’ realize that we could be conquered - and given our lib mentality, it could happen sooner than later.
It sucks. But I have no doubt that the real americans won’t allow that to happen and will fight.
Heh, it’s all about our foreign policy now immo. All our rights won’t mean a damn if we don’t have our heads.
The pro life issue is important but its not the only issue.”

To me it is....I can only vote for a solid, non-flip-flopper pro-life candidate.
Christian first, Conservative second, and Republican third.
To each her own. I think weighing and balancing various issues is a good approach. Huckabee for instance— pro-life socialist. Think about those.
I understand his positions and the changes. As I stated, he was not my first or second choice. He is my choice of those left. Based on his current commitments, and some record particularly in the abortion and family area, I will give him the benefit of the doubt on being able and willing to change.
I have met Dr. Paul personally and have great respect for him. I cannot support his position on the figh5t against Islamic terrorism, and I do not believe he can prevail. As I have said, of those who have the chance to prevail and defeat the Democrats, I will support Romney now, though I had much rather have had Hunter or Thompson. I hope Mit can nab Fred as his running mate at some point.
I know a vote for Romney is basically a vote to buy our Republic more time in the hopes that a Reagan like figure emerges...and also in the hopes that Romney himself will be true to his current stance on issues.
Thanks for your reasoned dialog and your stated feelings on the matter...it is always worthwhile to share heartfelt convictions with others civilly.
National Right to Life made a statement this week
“”National Right to Life also appreciates the pro-life position taken in this presidential campaign by former governor Mitt Romney.”
Presidio9, what good is it to voraciously fight for the right to life if you will never allow someone who can be in a position of power to change things convert to your way of thinking? Rather than saying, Mitt, I accept what you are saying now and applaud it and hope it is true. You and others are basically saying he is a liar.
Conversions happen. Thank the Lord, people change their mind on abortion. I pray that Mitt’s mind was truly changed and am believing him until he gives me reason not to. Do I agree with him 100%. No. But, I believe more babies will live in a Romney Presidency than in a McCain, Clinton, or Obama one.
I see Mitt’s position evolving towards the good side and pray that God grips his heart and makes the total change necessary. He is still a bit wobbly in some important areas. I wish he were even stronger on life. But, he is stronger now than John McCain who is gung ho for embryonic stem cell research. Mitt’s not perfect there, but is much closer to a true right to life position there.
I pray to God that Mitt can stop McCain. But with Huckabee apparently carrying McCain’s water...it is going to take the Hand of Providence to move the hearts of people all over this country for that to happen.
It is so nice to see someone who thinks around here.
BTW, is that your BMW on your FR page? Very, very nice!
Here's what I recently got to help balance out the declining carbon footprint in America:
Checvy Silverado 1500, 4X4 with the Z71 off road package, crew cab, with the 5.3L V8, a very nice Flow Master dual exhaust system, great Toyo on-off road tires, and very nice 18" wheels.
This is my carbon foot print.
The left depends on voters who are hesitant, confused, uninformed, in the mushy middle, frightened, disillusioned, bitter, self-pitying or, in general, jello heads.
Trust yourself, go with your best instincts, make your choice and get to work to support your candidate, NOW. You can influence a lot of people between now and the end of the primaries.
If not each of you carrying the ball, who? Just the left?

I don’t like any of them, and I have read enough to know that. My decision is between whether our country would be better off having a democrat in the White House, whom the Republicans in congress would fight against; or a liberal Republican, whom Congress would allow to push through liberal policies just because they have an (R) after their name.
Now, you've changed your wording. If your decision is actually choosing betwenn whether you want a "liberal"(your word) Republican in the White House, or a socialist/marxist Democrat with four or eight years to do irreparable damage to this nation and our incomes, that is a different story.
If you and others have to agonize over this decision, I feel sorry for you and fear for this country.
Leni
Yes - you’re right - I have to decide if the lesser of the four evils (three now) are someone I want to vote for. And I have read enough to know I don’t care to vote FOR any of them. The question remains as to whether I care to vote AGAINST the Democrat. It’s possible that a Congress that opposed a Dem would be better than a Congress who goes along with a Lib R.
