The issue at the moment is the presidential candidate, not the Congress except the tie-in is that a presidential nominee usually brings a lot of house and senate winners in on his coattails. This is politics and this is reality.

Otherwise, speculating and prophesizing what a new congress will do vis a vis the new president is futile.

The task at hand is to get the best GOP primary candidate elected with the best chance of stimulating the party to unify and fight hard against the marxist Dem in the general election. This will also increase our chances of getting a congress that will be GOP.

You state that your momentous decision is whether you "care to vote AGAINST THE DEMOCRAT". If that is the dilemna that faces you, don't even bother to reply to me. I have no desire nor the time to debate with linguinis. Spend your time between now and election debating your momentous decisions with other linguinis while the rest of us roll up our sleeves and get to work for our candidate, even if he's a lesser mortal. There was only one perfect human in the history of earth.

Even if my candidate is less than perfect, I'd slit my wrists before voting for either one of the two dangerous and scary marxist/commie candidates of the Demoautocratic party.

Grow a spine and be part of the solution, not the problem.

You are so right, and many of us who can’t stand the thought of McCain being our nominee need to focus on helping Mitt Romney. I realize we are just wasting time and energy talking about what we might do if McCain is the nominee, instead of working for Mitt Romney.

If every Freeper who does not want McCain to be our nominee would just support Mitt with donations and vote for him on Tuesday, McCain would be stopped for good!

Mitt has received endorsements from Senator Rick Santorum and here’s hoping many more conservative endorsements come between now and Tuesday. GO MITT!

Thanks for the lecture, schoolmarm. As far as I'm concerned, a big part of the problem is that people like you jump on people who have a problem with what's left and treat them like idiots. You need to realize that there are a heck of a lot of us out here who don't like any of the choices. Lecturing people on board the Titanic and saying it wasn't sinking wouldn't have saved anyone on the ship. My admitting that I am really struggling with my decision was like blood in the water to a shark for you -- further cementing my decision to not discuss any matters of import on this website. Too many jerks around for my taste. I truly understand how people who are confused detest trying to discuss their confusion -- just like the immigration issue, people like you are quick to go for the kill, imagining themselves to be some sort of heroic champion. You can have your victory - you slammed me. Woofreakinghoo. I'll stick to troop support - that's really what I care about anyway. Good day.

And yes, I am pinging my friends. I'm taking a break -- see ya'll later.

Ann said last night on H&C that she’d vote for Hillary Clinton over McCain!

Personal attacks and insults against a person expressing honest angst about an issue won’t convert them to your way of thinking. It just makes them shut up, go away, and still do what they were going to do-— which is NOT part of the solution.

This is a site for discussion, which might lead to changes in belief or new insights.... not for forced conversion experiences.

Mitt Romney isn't perfect. But John McCain is even worse. And if the RTL doesn't like Ann Coulter's endorsement of Romney, what do they think of Hillary Clinton's pro-choice views?

Also consider that Hucky and McCain are "friendly" to Hillary and Bill.

It's political manipulation. The Clintons still win if they get their guy in....someone who will cover for them (and not put them in jail where they belong). They can't lose with either Hucky or McCain in the President's seat. They are terrified of Obama and Romney.

I really don't care if you discuss issues of import here or not. Since you can't decide if you would or would not support a marxist/commie Dem candidate in the general election, your decisions on ANYTHING mean nothing to me.

I am puzzled by your decision to confine yourself to troop support here since you can't come to a decision.

But it apparently doesn't concern you that neither of the two anti-war, anti-military, anti-victory, pacifist Demoncrat candidates morally or ideologically "support the troops" in any way shape or form.....yet you are agonizing over whether you will vote for the Demoncrat Party nominee?

Having things both ways is so Clintonesque, isn't it?

Unsolicited comment.....hold your nose and vote for the Republican nominee whoever it turns out to be.....and REALLY support our men and women in uniform, endangered by both external and internal U.S. enemies.

Hey smartypants — when did I say I was voting for a Dem? Nice way to twist someone’s words. You must have worked for the DNC in a previous life. Now, if you really don’t care to talk to me, please stop. Go have a smoke or a beer and chill out. You need it.

Please post here any word or phrase where I stated you were going to vote for a Democrat. I have only referred to your self-flagelation over whether you would or would not vote for a marxist/commie, anti-troops Democrat nominee, have I not?

I'll await your answer.

Thanks,

Leni

I quote:

Since you can't decide if you would or would not support a marxist/commie Dem candidate in the general election

I never indicated that would support -- and to most people that means vote for -- a dem. I said I have to decide whether or not to vote against them. Major difference. You obviously need some stimulation in your life and are enjoying your little grammar game. Sorry, but I have better things to do. Maybe you should work on getting a life.

To quote your EXACT (emphasis mine) words to which I was addressing my comments, "The question remains as to whether I care to vote AGAINST the Democrat (emphasis yours)".

As Rush sez, "words mean things".

I have a life, thank you, and your three personal name-callings and insults mean as much to me as your dilemna in deciding whether to vote against either of the marxist/commie, anti-war/anti-troops Democrat candidates. I should say there should be NO question here.

I have no such agony in deciding because an imperfect Republican is better than a perfect Democrat any day.

Even staying home on general election day because you find it impossible to come to a decision on your exquisitely-difficult question is a vote for the Democrat.

That was uncalled for Leni. Star is one of the nicest people I know with the most conservative values possible. Unfortunately, the candidates we have to pick from aren't the same way. :(

Please, tr, read the progression of the comments. I don't care about the misdirecting, insults and name-calling directed at me. I also know Star is a nice person and also a conservative. I did not address that in any way. I also believe you're not addressing my posts correctly, i.e., the exact issue (Star's own words) we're debating.

I agree with you that our choices in November are not the best to many folks. But that doesn't mean we have to decide whether or not to vote for the marxist/commie Democrat nominee in November which was the exact gist of Star's statement.

I don't believe agonizing over that decision is even an option, unless Star agrees with those who think 4-8 years of Hillary or Obama will teach the country a lesson and will accordingly vote for one of the two anti-war, anti-troop socialists, or not vote at all which is the same thing.

I tried to stay on topic in my series of posts, but it has been difficult, sigh.

Let's move on now as I think I stated my opinion and it serves nothing to continue a back-and-forth when the real target is the Dem candidate in November WHOM WE MUST VOTE AGAINST even if our nominee is not the perfect human......a person we'll never find in this world, only the next.

Personal attacks are a Free Republic tradition. It is far easier for the partisan zealots, it requires a lot less mature thought.

I personally went through this over the last few months during the great Fred/Hunter/Rudy dustoffs. Rather than try and give mature, intelligent reasons to vote FOR their candidate, they would insult, berate and bully you into it.

It never ceases to amaze me about this website, how people here will take a recognized veteran such as myself, shower them with platitudes on Monday, and throw them under the bus on Wednesday because they don’t cut their arms and bleed for their chosen candidate. I bled for my nation, not for the likes of you.

No, Najida, Star, there is no such thing as “honest debate” on this forum. I knew that when I joined, and it’s been re-proven over time. As for myself, I suffer from electile dysfunction: I can’t get excited by anyone currently running. My tagline says it best...

I read all the political threads to gain information. Period.

Who I vote for is like being nekkid. Nobody else needs to know (and it’s for the good of all ;) )

"...'hold your nose and vote for the Republican nominee whoever it turns out to be..."

Look, I have been partial to Mitt Romney through out this entire campaign that started years ago it seems to me.

I have seen Romney at work here in Massachusetts and I think that he largely did a fine job while being relentlessly attacked every day in the media and elsewhere.

I can scarcely believe that anybody who can think actually believed that Romney was ever pro Abortion or pro Gay. That despite the endless links to quotes and videos to the contrary.

The man was running for Public Office in the most Liberal State in the Union. He said things in order to win. He lied. He compromised his principles. I knew it in 1994 and again in 2002. It was obvious.

Everybody knew it, but it gave certain voters (the dumb ones) cover to vote for someone other than that retard Shannon OBrien with the tattoo on her ass.

Romney made one big mistake here, but it was a tactical decision. Horribly ill advised, he imposed mandatory health care on residents.

Who the heck needs mandatory health care? I have seen Emergency Rooms in hospitals around here. Nobody but nobody ever gets turned away.

So then why did he do it? That new Law is bad for small business, and for young people who choose to not have health care. Why should they have to have it if they do not want it? Why bother? I digress.

In my opinion, Romney is a Republican. he is is smart, successful, a proven liar, charming, faithful, family oriented, and on top of all that and more he is willing to serve without pay. The man made hundreds of millions of dollars by fixing Companies that were in $$$$ trouble.

The other three candidates are also proven liars, but they have political resumes and the liberal media supporting them. I could go on for a long time about the candidates remaining, but it is pointless now. We are going to get Hillary come November and that is as sure as rain.

I will never vote for McCain, and any rational thinking person who does might as well criticize themselves for the same sort of hypocrisy that they accuse Romney of. We want to win and so we give up our beliefs, for a time.

Well, Romney probably would not have won here in 2002 if he were more honest. He might have indeed won in 1994 if he would simply have made it a point to say that a lying man slaughtering drunk was not fit to be in the Senate of the United States.

Tough titty that he could not see that point. The media and the professional politicians are always giving Ted Kennedy a permanent pass. Why do they do it? For me it simply does not compute. Mitt could have won that race by simply not lying and just telling the truth.

Mitt is a better man by far than any of the other remaining serious candidates.

I did not mean to rant so much, but I just see the interconnectedness of all of this compromise stuff. Mitt is paying for his past compromises. He will not be the nominee.

I am done with compromise. John McCain could eat my shorts and I'd still not vote for him, even if he is the "Republican" nominee.
