The hard-driving Tim Russert blew it. He allowed McCain to slip away with his dishonest characterization of Romney's statement, i.e., Romney never said he favored a specific time for withdrawal. McCain read the first part of the quote but not the second part, where Romney would veto a congressional time table. By now, everyone who is carefully following this knows that McCain's allegation is flatly false.
...
On another note, a rumor is making the rounds that Fred Thompson will endorse John McCain tomorrow.
I checked with somebody extremely close to the situation. Fred said the other day that he won't endorse for now, and he is not endorsing for now. I suspect this rumor is being leaked by the McCain camp, which was the source of the earlier rumor that Fred was planning on throwing his support behind McCain if he didn't score well in Iowa.

I admire and love Fred also.
But it was obvious 12 months ago before he even got into the race that Fred was tired and not up to the task of running for President.
He had to be dragged into it for heaven's sake, and only did it finally in Sept. because friends kept badgering him.
Fred can still be a great conservative motivator, but he is past his prime.
Well duh, Russert loves McCain for the same reason he loves Obama. They all agree on the issues.
f nothing else Willard will buy the nomination.
All the money in the world can’t buy a winner if you don’t have the message, the integrity, and the personality to deliver that message.even Ross Perot fell flat, although he swiped enough votes to defeat GHWB.
YUP you are correct sir, and MITT, he doesn’t have to buy anything...he’s already got all the important
shakers and doers on board the MITT EXPRESS...
1. RUSH

Either lazy, cheap or stupid. Take your pick.
Sounds like a demonRAT saying that they "support the troops".
If you don't support the NRA with your money, to say you "support" guns rights are just meaningless words.
BTW, guns don't have rights, people have the right to own guns.
Join the NRA, and then post that you "support" the right of people to own and carry guns.
No so called Republican has done more to undercut the conservative agenda than John McCain. Though Chuck Hagel, McCain’s Mini-Me, has been comical.
Last August, with a presidential bid clearly in focus, Romney joined the NRA, signing up not just as a supporter but a "life member."
The direct quote is is this blog post: Blog quote
Stephanopoulos: When did you join the NRA?And is reported on in this Boston Globe article: Globe articleMitt Romney: Within the last year and I signed up for a lifelong membership. I think theyre doing good things and I believe in supporting the right to bear arms.
Speaking on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," Romney said he signed up for a life long membership "within the last year."
Zzzzzzz.
Have better things to discuss than whether not one truly shares a belief in something by forking over money for a membership card.
Guess you love Bloomberg and Corzine. LOL
Mike Bloomberg and John Corzine prove you wrong.
And with the weak field of candidates this time around Romney could come out on top. Even though his meaasge is trumped up, his integrity is in the toilet and his personality is phony.
McCains sudden rise was most likely dirty politics. Dirty coming from the “straight talkeR” whos has said he would never nominate an Alito for SCOTUS because Alito wears his conservatism on his sleeve.
JOHN MC CAIN DIRTBAG WELL KNOWN TURNCOAT.
Thanks, I always thought that sounded funny.
Major difference between "sharing a belief" and supporting.
One is an idea, the other requires real, tangible action.
But, like the demonRATs, it's the purity of your intentions that count.
I'd pay a lot of good money just to see Fred beat the snot outta him!
I'd give my first born to see him win the nomination.
"I guess we are realizing that, we don't realize what we have until it's gone."
Ain't it the truth...
I don't care for their politics but I do not hold it against them they hey are able to invest in their own campaigns. I think people should "put their money where their mouth is."
Its not a matter of holding it against them.
Its a matter of buying an election.
That is called, political elitism.
I would rather someone spend their own money than to be indebted to special interests. And in the end, it always takes more than money. Ask Steve Forbes and Bill Simon.
