The Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) of 2002, also known as "McCain-Feingold," after its sponsors, is the most recent major federal law on campaign finance, which revised some of the legal limits of expenditure set in 1974, and prohibited unregulated contributions (called "soft money") to national political parties. Soft money also refers to funds spent by independent organizations that do not specifically advocate the election or defeat of candidates, and are not contributed directly to candidate campaigns.
So, McCain get's this passed, then his buddies in the Media get him elected in turn. After all, the MSM doesn't have to donate, just sound the call. I truly think that this was all orchestrated, perhaps a little payback for silencing the people with McCain-Feingold so the Media can run the show.
The next step is the "Fairness Doctrine" and finally totalitarianism ... There can be no other outcome now ...
That's what the English thought a couple of hundred years ago...and later the Nazis, the Imperial Japanese, the Stalinists, etc., etc.
Like them, ultimately, these tinhorns will end up on the rubbish heap of history as well.
Too bad Eric Blair isn’t around to write a book about it.
What it really guarantees is that the wealthiest candidate - that is, the one who is independently wealthy - will win. McCain is getting a boost from the media, which loves him because he hates Bush, but Romney, being the only independently wealthy candidate in the pack, is going to win. Unless Bloomberg, who is even wealthier, runs.
That’s what McCain Finegold did.
Pretty outrageous vanity post. Money does not seem to be Romney’s problem.
As far as everybody else, nobody has shown a willingness to attack McCain so it wouldn’t matter if they had a bajillion dollars in their coffers.
From your mouth, to Allah's ear...
A little overstated Scythian, but I agree in principle . . . once we accept limits on political speech under Federal law the tendency will be for the bureaucratic regulations to increase. People aren’t as upset as they should be. I’ve actually had Christian Conservatives tell me they’d call the IRS on their church if the church had a politician speak at it. (Gasp — an American politician speaking to a church congregation! How hideous. What a violation of regulation put in place by Lyndon Johnson since the preachers in his district didn’t like him).
Actually, the final phase is known as "Romanian Term Limits."
And George W. Bush signed this POS legislation. Don’t forget that.
(And please, if you’re tempted to type the words “he expected the Supreme Court to declare it unconstitutional” save yourself the effort. Apply your fingers to something more productive.)
George W. Bush gave us John McCain.
Actually, I think Allah is pulling for Obama.
The CFR part of Mc-F isn’t the pisser. The free-speech blackout periods all but ensure incombants their victory is what allows me to not ever vote for McCain. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an egregious violation of 1A rights as that one....maybe “clinic” protest buffer zones amount to as much.....but to limit political free speech is just insanely unConstitutional.
Face it, most Americans don’t pay attention to politics until it’s near voting time. If the People cannot pool their money in a “group” to make an ad mentioning a candidate near election time........that protects the incombant and squashes your free-speech.
Man do we need a viable pro-America pro-Constitution 3rd party....
Prediction: President Hillary....and a Republican Congress in 2010.
An assault on the First Amendment.....
Exactly! McCain truly did evil with his detestable CFR garbage. Anyone who truly cherishes the Constitution cannot in good conscience vote for that vile, corrupt, vengeful McCain. I will NEVER vote for McCain.
Good point. What part of "Congress shall make no law..." do these politicians not understand? Our Founders principles have been betrayed by the elites in D.C.
George W. Bush is a putz. A man who could have been as great as Ronald Reagan will end up being as bad for the country as Jimmy Carter, and what Carter did to the dem's in 1980, Bush will do to the GOP in 2008. Wait and see.
mccain is winning because Fred didn’t have it in him and everyone else is just a loser
McPain is winning because of the stupid, lazy idiots voting for him and for no other reason!!!
With lots of prayer for the health of Supreme Court members.
If either Clinton or Mclame get the nod then I can see no other outcome. McLame will definitely have an axe to grind against the real conservatives represented by the "real" talk radio hosts......
