Berkeley Council Tells Marines to Leave (Calls Marines "Intruders")
Contra Costa Times ^ | Wednesday, January 30, 2008 | Doug Oakley

Posted on 01/30/2008 4:09:05 PM PST by kristinn

Hey-hey, ho-ho, the Marines in Berkeley have got to go.

That's the message from the Berkeley City Council, which voted 8-1 Tuesday night to tell the Marines that its Shattuck Avenue recruiting station "is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders."

In addition, the council voted to explore enforcing its law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation against the Marines, and officially encouraged the women's peace group Code Pink to impede the work of the Marines in the city by protesting in front of the station.

In a separate council item, the council voted 8-1 to give Code Pink a designated parking space in front of the recruiting station once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week from noon to 4 p.m.

Councilman Gordon Wozniak voted no on both items.

The Marines have been in Berkeley for a little more than a year, having moved from Alameda in December of 2006. For about the past four months, Code Pink has been protesting in front of the station.

Nonsense. The Marines need no help, as these moonbats aren’t going to do anything but bluster.

Actually, the Marines don’t need help ~ they need orders to clear the area of rebels.

"is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders."

Bastardly, traitorous, leftists. They are not worthy to tie the bootlaces of these Marines who defend their freedom to act in such an atrocious way.

Hold that beachhead Marines...and spread the word. Help will be on the way as this word gets out.

I no longer know how to respond to these stories. Party of me is angry, the other is sad, and yet another recognizes that we’re all at fault for not responding to these seditious acts with a swift and appropriate response - Islam is not our greatest enemy, our apathy is.

Any wonder why I have not spent one day (nor one dollar) in Kalifornia for a number of years?

We used to have large company meetings, a convention, in Kalifornia each year. No more.

Berkley continues to live in the 60’s. If it were me, I’d have the Marines go ahead and leave and then cut off any and all federal monies going to that city.

Unbelievable - what scum! I can only hope that as Berzerkly sinks into the abyss that restraining force in the form of the National Guard or police forces decide to sit it out and let them burn.

From the Berkeley Daily Planet:

Councilmember Betty Olds, who originally intended vote against the resolution, said she changed her mind, especially listening to one of the speakers who is a 90-year-old peace activist. Olds said it would have been hypocritical of her to oppose the resolution, since she, like many others in Berkeley, “found a psychiatrist who said their kids were all crazy to get them out of the [Vietnam] war.”

Olds added, “The Marines ought to have had the sense not to come here.”

The council also went on record calling on the governor to withdraw the California National Guard from Iraq, asking Congress to reaffirm the existence of the Armenian Genocide and adopting a policy, where practical, to cease purchases form Chevron Corp. They also raised meter parking fees from $1 to $1.25 per hour, made Berkeley a sanctuary for medical cannabis users and dispensaries and approved both the city manager and Police Review Commission reports on prevention of criminal activity by police.

Berkeley is Moonbat Central. A more intolerant, bigoted and hateful town one won’t find in America. It is populated by radical leftists and hard-core communists. Oh, well, Berkeley will be conquered by the Mexicans soon enough anyway.

My daughter went to Cal... I feared she would turn lib. Instead she came out of there despising the dregs that inhabit the sidewalks and the panhandlers that harass for coins. Having to step over bums drunk on camps just to get to her classes.
That among other things cemented her opinions and her joining the military. Of her friends who attended, I think four joined the services after their experience at Cal.

Berkeley needs to be beaten at its own game. Someone needs to buy up property near or next to the Marine Recruiting Station and offer it to the Army, Navy and Air Force for recruiting offices also.

the council voted 8-1 to give Code Pink a designated parking space in front of the recruiting station

QUESTION FOR ANY ATTORNEY OUT THERE?

Is that not illegal?

Can a City enact a law to give or award a special privilege to a private group for the sole purpose of disrupting a specific groups legal activity?

If this is the case I will gladly park there and then fight the ticket.

The leftists protest the presence of recruiting stations, sometimes get them kicked off college campuses, then proclaim without blinking that the US military is screwed up and unpopular. Their “evidence”? That the services can’t meet their recruitment goals.

When things like this happen, a motion should immediately be started to end all federal aid or military assistance to a hellhole like that.

Someday, if it hits the fan, they’ll wish they had them for protection.

I hate Berkely and already boycott it’s sister city across the bay as well.
