Republicans to Conservatives: Get lost.

Posted on 01/31/2008 11:30:40 AM PST by Imperial Warrior

Once again a familiar pattern emerges, one that has occurred many times before especially after a disasterous election result for the party in question. Case in point the Republican Party which had its asses handed to them in the last federal election wherein Republicans across the board were slaughtered, not because the Republican constituency suddenly embraced liberal ideology and rejected conservatives values and principles, but because Republicans in positions of power did. Thus they were rewarded with a withdrawl of support which greatly contributed to their defeat. The crystal clear lessons of the elections of 2006, instead of being a revelation to Republican Party establishment hacks, insiders, politicos, and beltway blowhards wasn't that ignoring and abusing their base and abandoning conservative principles and policies would result in certain defeat, but a stupid, illogical, and unsubstantiated belief that Republican policies weren't liberal enough and that the remedy was to move even more leftward and reject conservatism even more.

As a result, the RINO infested, liberal infected RNC party establishment has chosen not to address the numerous entrenched and systemic problems and failures they possess, but assign blame and culpability for their failures and loss of power to the voter base they continually ignored, abused, mistreated, betrayed and finally abandoned. It appears that the Republican Party apparatus has simply given up on serving the base that got them elected and gave them the historic political majority they once enjoyed before squandering and losing it. Now they seem dedicated to regaining political power by dumping their conservative base and replacing it with "independents", "moderates", "centrists", and disaffected Democrats and liberals. It was for this belief that Dick Morris, the toe sucker, on Bill O'Reilly's show claimed that the Republicans didn't really need conservatives to get elected anymore since they had all these other piecemeal constituencies, who with a widespread distrust and dislike of Hillary Clinton, would sweep McCain into power as the "moderate" most Americans are allegedly clamoring for.

It's notable that Dick Morris was once a trusted member and close political advisor of the Clinton administration who turned on his former employers, but more notable that Morris was also Vicente Fox's campaign manager who got him elected and made his push for a blanket amnesty for millions and millions of his illegal alien population possible. No wonder the toe sucker is positive about a McCain Presidency. At any rate, so is the Republican party beltway establishment who is "tired" of criticism and complaints from the conservative base and is more willing to seek to replace them than please them. The problem for the insulated and out-of-touch elite political class, their operatives, underlings, and sycophants is that conservative voters actually expect and demand results for their contributions, grassroots volunteering, campaign struggles, unsung efforts, and last but not least, their loyalty. Like most conservatives, I'm not involved in politics for the promotion of a specific party label. I am however in this for a specific political ideology; conservatism wherever and in whatever form it exists. If the Republican Party is no longer the vehicle and instrument of limited, small government conservatism and Constitutional originality, then I have no use for it and it is as much of an enemy of freedom, liberty, individuality, and private sector capitalism as the diseased liberal opposition that seeks to deprive me of there precious and irreplacable rights.

However, the national Republican party establishment, the same jerks that backed McCain's insane and suicidal amnesty nonsense to the hilt and smeared opponents of this vile and despicable idiocy as racists, bigots, and hatemongers is also backing the biggest traitor to conservative principles and fellow Republicans that support them while telling conservatives they are not only no longer welcome in "their" party built by conservatives, but no longer necessary. Actually I relieved with this statement as I no longer have a dog in this fight but won't stay home on election day. Rather, I will vote for every conservative running for office regardless of the party label but will write in Mickey Friggin' Mouse if John McCain is the Republican Presidential nominee. At least Mickey never spat on his own and stabbed them in the back like looney tunes John.

Based on my past behavior I will probably vote for my party's nominee. I voted for Bob Dole. But I won't put up signs, talk to my friends and neighbors or stuff an envelopes.

McCain was one of the first to admit that the 2006 defeat was because the Republicans were not living up to its conservative principals. Then he went right on to co-author the worst amnesty bills ever drafted. He can’t even learn his own lessons.

When they came for the Libertatarians, I did not object for I was not a librertarian.

When they came for the conservatives, I did not object because I was not a conservative.

When it came time to vote, there were too few republicians left to win anything.......

If McCain gets the nomination, he will win the election and should be challenged for the 2012 nomination.

Who would be best to take down a sitting Republican President in 2012?

I think the Republicans are always dissing the Conservatives. My personal favorite is when Bush invited people Bill Maher, Al Frankin, etc. to a White House dinner where he did not invite people like Savage, Limbaugh, etc. That was the night that Laura was joking about going to see Chippendales and how George tried to milk a male horse.

This has all happened before, it will all happen again. The Country Club set takes over because it believes the way to electoral fortune is to please the MSM by being democrat-lite. Ultimately, they fail leaving the left in charge (think Carter) who instantly gives us a disaster. Voila, the country calls out the conservatives to rescue it from the mess. Prosperity and security ensue, but as time passes, the people want their goodies and the Club Set emerges to sound like democrat-lite. . .repeat cycle.

In years where the majority party gets purged, the more conservative candidates in more liberal electorates get ousted (or vice versa). Witness Rick Santorum and George Allen last election. So the moderate Repulicans in conservative states tend to stay (and vice versa — the more moderate Democrats in more liberal states tend to stay) while the more conservative and more liberal candidates respectively get purged. Without term limits, there is a bias in the system for fence straddlers since the moderates, once ensconced in states where they have the “right” party membership tend to stay and stay and stay. Conservatives need to get more involved in the primary processes against “moderate” Republicans in conservative states. They’ll be told they are hurting the party . . . but has the party been loyal to conservatives? Nope.

What conservatives need to do is recapture the party. They need to start from the ground up, the precinct level. It might take awhile, but today’s Senators were once Governours or State Senators, who were once State Reps, who were once school board members. Conservatives need for solid conservatives to step up to the plate and get active in public service. Part of our problem is that we’re SO “individualistic” (and I use the term with caveats) that nobody wants to be the one to put their time and money where it counts.

I do think that is basically what is happening. The Dems have drifted so far to the left that the GOP is able to shift to the left, and occupy the middle ground. In the process, the conservatives are being pushed out the door.

At this point, it is just a question whether McCain will do something to try to keep them from bolting, or simply show them the door. So far, it looks like he’s content to show them the door.

If that is how it ends up, then the conservatives themselves will have to decide whether to abandon the party and start a new one, or be content as a minority within the GOP.

I think the GOP needs a completely different approach to electing nominees in the future. Super Tuesday needs to include all states at the same time so there is no group think momentum to push a candidate on us.

There should also be fines for any polling agency that releases results of polls publicly two weeks prior to super Tuesday.
This will neuter the media’s influence over our primaries and will stop the group think. States will have a chance to vote on all of the candidates, not just the ones that survived the early rounds.

Without polls to guide primary voters, they’ll actually vote for who they want, not just the “electable” ones.

I don’t think there would be any problems from a first amendment perspective on clamping down on all of these polls, after McCain/Feingold already showed you can stop advertisements 90 days prior to an election. Thanks for the example McStain!

Oh boy, wasnt that just a hoot and a holler. It’ll get even better with Juan McCain in there. Or if Hillary wins, she can have Kim Jong Ill and Hugo Chavez over. MS hasnt registered voters by party yet. We will be soon it sounds like. I’m thinking about registering as Constitution Party. We dont get any say in who wins the primary down here anyways as all the liberals have already decided in NH, Iowa and FL before it gets to us.

Which is rarely what is being proposed here.

Instead of digging in and promoting conservatism at the lower levels, keeping influence...we get vitriol and theats to just stay home and let the country go to hell.

I understand what you are saying but in honor of my father I will vote for the person my team selects. My father, who was the wisest, most decent man I have ever known taught me this. My father thought Nixon would be HORRIBLE for the party in 1968 because Nixon was a baby and a sore loser. My dad supported George Romney but when Nixon was the nominee he voted for him. He said "I am not going to take my ball and go home just because my team doesn't agree with me."
