DHAKA (AFP) — An extremely rare river dolphin has been beaten to death by fishermen in southern Bangladesh.
Fishermen at Mongla, near the Sunderbans mangrove forest, netted a Ganges river dolphin on Monday and beat it to death as they had not seen this kind of creature before, the state-run BSS news agency said Tuesday.
A group then tried to sell it as a rare fish, before giving up and dumping it outside a museum.
The Sunderbans area straddles the borders of Bangladesh and India's West Bengal state and lies on the Ganges-Brahmaputra delta. According to the World Wildlife Fund, there are just 1,200-1,800 such dolphins alive.

You know, this is one nutty world we live in, when some fishermen can kill one fish on a river in friggin’ Bangladesh, and it makes world news.
Aren’t Muslims supposed to live in harmony with nature, as opposed to the evil capitalist infidel West?

No thoughts of taking it (live) to a marine biologist for identification. Just hammer it to death.

Dolphins ain’t fish. They’re mammals and as such register obvious signs of pain and suffering and it speaks to the stupidity and savagery of a person to beat something like that to death (if you’re going to kill it, why not cut it’s throat or something?)
Article on here a couple of days ago where researchers found that dolphins actually murder some of their own. Like Flipper with tatoos and a switch blade.
