We have a volunteer military. What’s the big deal?
True, but I think that the elderly vote in Fla was just as important as the Independent and Hispanic vote. I think that Chuck Norris added fuel to the fire when he said an old guy couldn’t be President.
In my state, Virginia, George Allen, a pretty boy conservative who didn’t serve in the military, was defeated by a rough and tumble, slightly demented Democrat who served in Viet Nam and whose son is in the military today.
Real conservatives defend the country. This certainly means something to real Americans.
Actually, look at the date of the article. McCain’s kid is in Anbar now...
In which branch did you serve?
It isn't the only way to serve our country, and in many cases it isn't even the best uses of a particular person's skills to serve our nation.
I do give credit to candidates that have served in the armed forces, and who's families continue to do so.
That doesn't mean I hold it against candidates and their families that don't.
No state can stop a national party group from splitting off into an independent group and legaqlly getting an independent candidate on the ballot.
Everyone is doomed as long as the borders are open and there are liberals on the courts that make law. MA is not alone. Wait until McLame and/or Hillary make up a health plan. Then, you will see the full impact of the liberal judiciary.
"Years later, General Omar Bradley was asked to name the single most heroic action he had ever seen in combat, and he replied, "Ted Roosevelt on Utah Beach." Originally recommended for the Distinguished Service Cross by General Barton, the award was upgraded at higher headquarters to the Medal of Honor which Roosevelt was posthumously awarded on 28 September 1944"
"I will not take the low road to the highest office in the land. I want the presidency in the best way, not the worst way." John McCain - Feb 2000
I'm willing to bet Freepers wouldn't pass on electing our non-vet Vice-President (please throw your hat in at the convention, Dick!).
Furthermore, where does the military litmus end?
Does National Guard or Reserves count? How about serving in peace time? If you served in war time do you acutally have to see combat? Do they have to have medals?
How about using my litmus test: Elect a Non-Socialist?
Hispanics are VERY pro-military. I served with many of them. One of them, I had to eliminate from military service because of conduct problems. He broke down and cried in my arms on the day I read him out. What could he tell his family? I whispered in his ears, tell them you couldn’t take the boredom in a peacetime army, but the company commander told me, if we get into a war, just show up. Too many American parents, teachers and churches discourage military service, out of selfishness and naive opposition to the use of force. But this is what I say, the lion will lay down with the lamb when we are the lion.
That would be a dream to be able to vote for Dick Cheney. He’s probably healthier than McCain.
I think if he asked Condi to be his running mate, she woud not turn him down.
either way we have to really take a good look at the VP
If that is what a person values, why is that sleazy? What, do we have only one single politically correct value system? If no Romney in 200 years has ever defended or fought, then that’s their record. Obviously, being adults in the greatest nation in the history of the earth, they had other things to do.
I agree with your point, that all military service counts, guard and reserve. I used to think guard and reserve service was less. Then, it occured to me that I “avoided” Viet Nam by delaying my service just long enough by signing up for ROTC. President Bush was a Air Guard pilot, and the attacks on him by people who supported a draft-dodger was dispicable. Dick Cheney, on the other hand, I do not respect.
I thought Hillary was a Marine?
Regards
Exactly! Obama and McCain are American liberal moonbats. Romney and Hillary are the GOVERNMENT-IS-GOING-TO-CONTROL-YOU-FOR-YOUR-OWN-GOOD-COMMIES!
Say what you will about McCain but his family has certainly done their duty in serving this country. McCain, his father, grandfather and now his sons are risking their lives to serve this country in the military. Can you say that about your family?
