Student disciplined for pen with gun company logo
World Net Daily ^ | February 1, 2008 | Bob Unruh

Posted on 02/01/2008 8:18:10 AM PST by rawhide

A student has been threatened with a 3-day suspension from school for bringing to campus, and using, a pen with the corporate logo of the Glock company, a large stylized "G" with the letters "lock" inside.

Cooler heads eventually prevailed, and the father reports that he was successful in convincing the school officials to not only withdraw the threat, but also the formal reprimand that already had been placed in his son's educational file.

Note: Read the complete article to find out how all this got started and the great response from the father, including what he has to say about the school vice principle.

Its absolutely ridiculous. Now you can't endorse Second Amendment rights at school? Take a position its good to buy a gun can get you kicked out. Not bringing a gun to school mind you, but just saying its great we have gun manufacturers like Glock in America. The carnival of Zero Tolerance absurdities lives on.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus

Soon our kids will be punished because their pens do not have the ACLU approved message.

It’s a PEN! A frickin’ PEN!

Of course, if the pen was advertising condoms or planned parenthood, the kid would have received a gold star instead.

The VP ran off and left us with a receptionist. She apologized; returned the pen...

"I returned the Glock pen to my son to use until it dies. At which point the pen becomes inoperable, I will be giving him another Glock pen. As far as I am concerned, he can use Glock pens forever...," the father wrote.

zero tolerance is simply cowardice on the part of school officials to use their own judgement because of fear of being sued if anything happens.

They can always point to “the rules” to justify their actions, and any discretion could lead to a lawsuit. I’m also sure that the administrators have told the teachers that if they exercise their own judgement, they are not going to be backed up by the school admins.

This is an ever growing insanity!

My daughter is married to a fine young man with the last name Walther. Will our grandson be forbidden to use his own last name at school when he starts in 2012?

It would not surprise me in this state!

The father checked his son's student handbook, and saw that "weapons, replica weapons, pictures of weapons, and weapon images on keychains or other items are forbidden," he said.

So, I guess that means no Shakespeare and certainly no history books with pics and/or images from America's various wars.

Then, as the article reads, Teachers and staff at the school who have the names, Remington, Smith, Wesson, Colt, Marlin, Ruger, Thompson, Savage, etc. should all be fired.

Just on principle, ask your daughter and son-in-law to name their next son Colt Marlin Walther.

Our oldest used to wear a second amendment foundation patch on her jeans.

They probably thought it was a rock group.

Our middle child wears a Got Sig? shirt and hasn’t been noticed yet.

At least our school district isn’t that ridiculous.

Yet.

pictures of weapons,

Yah... seems that should apply to their own books and historical movies.

Maybe they digitally edit out the guns from the pictures of minutemen, like Spielberg did to E.T.

From the thread you posted about the father:

My son seems to feel that everyone is acting normally around him with this in the past. He has not noticed any problems. His progress report, which came yesterday, has actually higher-than-normal marks.

He now has 3 Glock pens and has worn a Glock windbreaker to school.

We are keeping an eye out for any problems though.

This reminds me of something that happened to my son in school 4 years ago as a 5th grader.

He was jumped by two other boys in the restroom - knowing my rules of "Never start the fight, but finish it" or the related "Don't throw the first punch, but the last one"...he defended himself vigorously, and fought off the two boys.

However, the school has a zero tolerance policy for fighting, so, my son faced three days suspension...

In the principals office (new principal, evidently fresh from liberal training academy to boot) - wanted to know, in addition to the 3 day suspension, what other "punishment" he might receive at home...

Seriously.

Now, I thought about hiring an attorney and fighting it, but, it's a lot of money to go that route, so instead, this is what I told her...(besides, it's cheaper and more fun!)

My son will not face any punishment at all - instead, we are going to the zoo, the amusement park in Denver, and a movie...my son is going to be awarded for not starting the fight but finishing it, and for being a man in the situation.

The other two boys were expelled from the school, my son returned, never again having any "disciplinary" issues with said principal, who has since been transferred out of the district, but don't know why....

Absolute insanity. But, then again, that’s what the left embraces, as that is what the left is (i.e., insane). There is no doubt in my minbd that there will soon be a social upheaval — perhaps even a civil war — between the left one one side and patriots on the other. My contempt for the left is so deep there is no bottom.
