McCain Scrutiny...

The left shouts their propaganda loud and long so that more may believe ordinary Americans want innocent people like Terri Schiavo and Lauren put to death, and that decent Americans oppose those who would save innocent lives. We have heard this refrain for years, now. Looks like McCain has those guys as friends...

Still this trio is unpersuaded by a man, McCain, who shares their oft-spoken views on marriage, abortion, small government, corruption, low taxes and the Iraq War. So what do they want?

Rather, who does this squad represent?

First they speak for themselves, and their quest for influence by the sheer exercise of power. This group helped create the mawkish Terri Schiavo hysteria.

Schiavo had been brain-dead since 1990. But talk radio drove Congress and President Bush himself in the winter of 2005 to sign legislation designed to “save” her.

Selfishness is fueling rants against McCain

The real story here is why are people not getting a living will and putting their own intentions down on paper. This would solve the entire situation. There needs a huge information drive in order to get people to take care of their own situation. Of course this girl was a druggie and probably did not even think to have any type of will.

Golly, I wonder which candidates Michael Smerconish supports...

ABORTION: For once I would like to hear a candidate say, "you know what, Roe v. Wade struck a pretty reasonable balance for an awfully complicated problem." (And given the Schiavo debacle, the last people I want determining my end-of-life plan are the politicians.) Clinton and Obama agree. Not the Rs.

EMBRYONIC STEM-CELL RESEARCH: Pardon my callous nature, but that which exists in a Petri dish is undeserving of the full rights that are afforded a viable fetus. Let's change lives with research. The Ds agree, and so does McCain......

Michael Smerconish: Not so easy, given the issues

“She’s committed no crime”

Well, yes, technically she did.

Whether that means she should starve to death is something else entirely.

The video should be shown widely. Not just to further her cause but to kids to show them the consequences of heroin.

Very sad.

And on the topic of embryonic stem cells, we have this thread by Kaslin. Thanks to TheSarce for the ping.

As President Bush explained in his State of the Union address, scientists recently "discovered a way to reprogram adult skin cells to act like embryonic stem cells." This development holds the promise of new, ethical research and may eliminate the "need" for research that destroys embryos, produces clones, or harvests women's eggs. These adult stem cells provide hope for human life in a culture that seems willing to destroy its young to heal its old.

This willingness to destroy life began when scientists clamored for funding and attention as they explored the potential of embryonic stem cells. The media and many politicians were only too happy to oblige, trumpeting the "promises" of embryonic stem cells long before anything was actually tested. Moreover, any resistance to the idea of leaping into embryonic stem cell research was immediately labeled "ramblings of the religious right" and promptly dismissed..............

Botched abortions mean that scores of babies are being born alive and left to die, an official report has revealed.

A total of 66 infants survived NHS termination attempts in one year alone, it emerged.

Rather than dying at birth as was intended, they were able to breathe unaided. About half were alive for an hour, while one survived ten hours...........

This excerpt is from the recent Hannity and Colmes interview with Lauren's father. I suggest reading the whole dialog at the link.

.......................................

So where does Lauren's father go from here? Randy Richardson joins us now, live.

Do you see this as similar to the Schiavo case?

RANDY RICHARDSON, FATHER OF LAUREN RICHARDSON: The similarities is the cruelty that took place during Terri's demise. You would have to read the book "A Life That Matters" to get the full story.

And Lauren's is different. Lauren's, we have a situation with a girl that is improving. She's exactly like Terri. She's alive. She's not terminal and seeking care...........................

More on Lauren...

...............................

Family News in Focus

Court will decide if feeding tube will stay.

In a case reminiscent of the Terri Schiavo story, a brain-injured 23-year-old Delaware mother has been placed in the custody of a parent who wants to remove her feeding tube.

Lauren Richardson was pregnant when she overdosed on heroin. She was placed on a breathing machine until the baby was delivered, one year ago.

Lauren’s father, Randy Richardson, is leading the drive to keep her alive. She is breathing on her own, and he said she is aware of her surroundings, moves and feels pain.

“He feels hopeful she will improve with the right therapy," said Nicole Theis, president of the Delaware Family Policy Council. "The father wishes to move her into his own home and take care of her.”

But a Delaware Court has given custody to Lauren’s mother, Edith Towers, who said her daughter once told her she did not want to live in an incapacitated state. A court ruling could be 90 days away; in the meantime, the feeding tube could be pulled.

Carrie Gordon Earll, senior bioethics analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said the case is a warning to us all.

“Talk to your parents, your spouse, your children, to the people who are closest to you," she said. "Talk to the people who might be making a decision for you, if something tragic would happen."

Update, from the Life for Lauren website:

Due to an Injunction against Lauren's father, by the court appointed lawyer ad litem (allegedly representing the interests of Lauren), we may no longer link to the video which showed Lauren responding to family members. This order, which was signed by Master Samuel Glasscock, asserts the right to privacy of Lauren by the same lawyer who consented to terminating her life.

The video is still up on YouTube as of this morning, but it isn't known how much longer that is going to last.

Quick, hide the evidence. Just like the NYT did with photos of Auschwitz and Dachau.

Not that there's anything disturbing about Lauren herself in that video. She looks beautiful and very much alive.

What's disturbing about about the video is the knowledge that there are people who want to execute this very-much-alive, disabled but healthy young woman by starving and dehydrating her to death.

As Pyro7480 already mentioned just upthread, the death dealers are behaving as can be predicted, wishing to hide the facts, the images via YouTube of Lauren as she actually is, not as how they want her portrayed.

Steve Ertelt of Life News wrote this article...

...............................

Dover, DE (LifeNews.com) -- Bioethics watchdogs are weighing in on the Lauren Richardson case and say that the courts and her family shouldn't subject the young woman to euthanasia. Richardson has become the next Terri Schiavo as her parents engage in a massive legal and philosophical debate about whether to take her life.

Lauren Richardson is a 23-year-old woman who overdosed on heroin in August 2006 while she was three months pregnant with a baby girl.

Doctors kept Lauren on life support until she delivered her baby in February 2007. Shortly thereafter, her parents began a fight that is reminiscent of the battle over Terri's life and death.

Noted attorney and author Wesley J. Smith wrote on Monday that he viewed a video Richardon's father released and he says she seems reactive particularly when her father attempts to interact with her.

"Whether she is conscious or not is irrelevant to her equal moral worth as a human being," Smith adds.

"The fight in this case is over whether she lives as a profoundly disabled woman or is made to die slowly over two weeks by dehydration--as Terri Schiavo did," Smith explained. "If we did that to a dog, we would go to jail. Do it to a disabled woman who needs a feeding tube and it is called medical ethics."

Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, also recently wrote about Richardson's case.

He told LifeNews.com, "As a disabled citizen, she is defenseless against the court-approved, imposed act of dehydration and starvation intended to cause her death."

"Lauren gave birth to a baby girl during this ordeal, and has not been allowed to see her child. This little baby girl needs a chance to know her mother," he added.

"We appeal to each person with compassion and love to understand why we wish to bring Lauren home and care for her," Schadenberg said.

As in the Terri Schiavo case, physicians have been quick to label Lauren as having a persistent vegetative state -- something Terri's family called dehumanizing and medically inaccurate as patients have recovered from it.

Edith Towers, Lauren's mother, wants to remove her feeding tube and starve and dehydrate her to death in the same manner that Michael Schiavo subjected Terri.

Towers claims Lauren would never have wanted to live as a permanently disabled person, but Lauren, as with Terri, did not have a living will or other advance directive spelling out her treatment wishes. She claims Lauren told her during Terri's battle that she would not want to live like her.

On the other side is Randy Richardson, Lauren's father, who is fighting to save her life and wants to be appointed as her guardian to ensure she receives appropriate medical care and treatment.

"She's committed no crime and doesn't deserve to have this death imposed on her," Richardson told the News Journal newspaper on Wednesday. "We just want to give her a chance."

Against the grain, grist for Cristy Critters, from that Kingsley Guy again...

The biggest winner in the Jan. 29 Florida primary wasn't John McCain or Hillary Clinton, but Gov. Charlie Crist.

He threw his substantial political weight behind the Amendment 1 property tax proposal, and the measure easily surpassed the 60 percent threshold needed for passage. Crist also endorsed John McCain, just a few days before the election, when polls showed Mitt Romney had a good chance of grabbing victory and momentum in the Sunshine State.

~Snip~

I put "conservatives" in quotes because of the hijacking of the word by the religious right. The late Barry Goldwater, who laid the foundation for the modern conservative movement, would have been appalled by some of the actions of the religious wing of the party done in the name of conservatism.

Chief among them was the effort through legislation to keep Florida's Terri Schiavo alive. The raw use of power by the religious right during the Schiavo affair sent shock waves through Florida and the nation, and horrified even many religious people who objected to government interference in an end-of-life decision.............

Conservatives can learn from Crist

Elanore Clift anyone???

..........................

Clift, Eleanor. Two Weeks of Life: A Memoir of Love, Death, and Politics. Basic Bks: Perseus. Mar. 2008. c.336p. index. ISBN 978-0-465-00251-1. $26. POL SCI

Verdict: Clift’s writing is honest and heartfelt, and her reporting on Schiavo’s last days raises important questions regarding the role of government and religious fundamentalists in right-to-die issues. Warmer than Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking, this book will appeal to readers interested in better understanding death and grief and will benefit professionals working with the terminally ill and their loved ones.

Background: Newsweek contributing editor and political analyst Clift describes the last two weeks in the life of her husband and coauthor (War Without Bloodshed; Madam President), Tom Brazaitis. In 2005, as hospice workers were helping Clift care for the then terminally ill Brazaitis, she was being asked to comment on the national controversy surrounding the fate of Terri Schiavo, whose own husband was petitioning to have her feeding tube removed (Brazaitis and Shiavo died one day apart in March 2005). This book is what emerged from Clift’s parallel experiences. Written in diary form, it covers her efforts to comfort her dying husband and her attempts as a journalist to make sense of the many ethical and moral issues raised by the Schiavo case.—Dale Farris, Groves, TX

In the parlance of the poison ivy halls of high learning, this drivel passes for intelligent discourse as a facile mask for stupidity. As the far left hammer and sickles out new cognates, leftist mantra quotes equate to intellectual brilliance. If the author also enjoys that rare quality of grammar and punctuation skill, he or she is elevated to guru or guruette status.

In this instance the tkach snagging my wonder is which god he is thanking, not Our God, fer sure.

................................

In the 2004 presidential election, a whopping 78 percent of registered white evangelicals voted for President Bush and were hailed as the reason for his victory. During this year's primaries, however, they have remained in the background of national discussions. What a difference four years makes.

Over the past decade, multimillion dollar lobbying groups such as the Christian Coalition attempted to install an Intelligent Design curriculum in schools, prohibit same-sex marriage, retain the Ten Commandments in an Alabama courthouse, keep the catatonic Terri Schiavo alive and retain "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Yet in this election year, there is sparse media coverage of these types of events and the movement feels dormant.

Thank God................????????????????

Quiet Right is no longer a political focus... The Relgious Right, which swung the 2004 election, is surprisingly quiet this time.

I don’t know how to save a YouTube video and then upload it again, but it might be helpful is someone who knows how to do this did.

I couldn’t help but think when I was praying for Javona and Lauren last night and today that there is a bitter irony in the fact that the culture of death always seems to choose Lent as their time to publicly promote their agenda.

It amazes me that the people labeled in a vegetative state who have “awakened,” even if only temporarily, have not asked why nobody snuffed them and put them out of their misery. I haven’t read a single case where that happened. Yet, the death cult ignores any evidence that the personality still exists.

Can Ambien Wake Up PVS Patients?

The Guardian gives credence to a case report concerning three patients purportedly diagnosed in PVS for more than three years who were “aroused transiently every morning after zolpidem,” a sleeping pill. That would be Ambien.

The report, by Clauss and Nel, of Royal Surrey County Hospital and of Family Practice of Pollack Park South Africa, was published in this month’s issue of Neurorehabilitation.

There are 26 million annual prescriptions for Ambien, most of which are probably not to patients in a persistent vegetative state.

Warning, this link contains graphic language with such foul words like gupta and worse. (Apologies to the good Guptas...) What else could it be, but a rant of a far left lib in his hatred towards God? Because of their obsession, they just have to recall that albatross around their miserable necks, Terri's Legacy.

But wait! There's more!

Actually a clown juggler did appear at the vigil for Terri in her final days. Our good old MSM actually hired a clown to try to make it look like a circus atmosphere. It fooled nobody there and the juggler was only mediocre anyway, but some in the MSM used it.

Why do I suspect this gupta has a small head?

.....There are millions of wacky Christians convinced God cleared their acne, answered their prayers for a car or a parking space, granted them a raise, told them to put on a clown outfit and drive 500 miles to juggle for Terry Schiavo protesters – you can’t make this stuff up – or would provide them with a wife with breasts “bigger than my head.”.............

As the "moderate" voice of the loony left demands we accept the inevitability of what they insist, they remind us of that albatross burdening them saying Terry (sic) is still dead, all the time realizing her Legacy lives strong and is their burden.

............The result has been a thing of beauty: Runaway spending and an enormous budget deficit, serial scandals and embarrassments, no flag-burning, English language-only or anti same-sex marriage Constitutional amendments, and a Forever War that is a sucking chest wound on the economy and the national psyche. Oh, and by the way, Terry Schiavo is still dead............

Well, leftists like FDR, LBJ, Harry Blackmun, Earl Warren and Margaret Sanger are all still dead too and we’re still stuck with their “legacies.”

It would just be a whole lot easier to have faith in Our Lord and not fuss about this. Just seems logical to me...

Captain Obvious strikes again!

Thread really by wagglebee.

ROME, February 6, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Doctors from four different Roman universities have issued a joint declaration affirming the duty of doctors to rescue and care for infants born alive after an abortion attempt, even against the wishes of the mother.

The declaration, made by doctors at the obstetric clinics of La Sapienza, Tor Vergata, Campus Biomedico and Sacro Cuore, represent both the secular and religious sides of the Italian university system. The first two universities are public, and the second two are Catholic.

"An extremely premature newborn must be treated like any other person in danger, and assisted adequately," said Domenico Arduni, director of the Tor Vergata gynecological clinic...........

Although we are still early in February, the month of March is coming soon and with it, the recognition of Terri on the anniversary of her death. This is but the first of many articles in tribute and recognition of what Terri means to us all.

This first is from Father Pavone's "Priests for Life".

:.................................

Terri's Day - March 31st

The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation, in collaboration with Priests for Life, announces the “International Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schindler Schiavo, and All of Our Vulnerable Brothers and Sisters,” which will be observed each year on March 31, the anniversary of her death.

We invite individual believers to spend time on that day learning about Terri, and praying for all whose lives are threatened in the same way that her's was.

We invite Churches to hold memorial services and to educate their people on the dignity of every human life, despite any disability or disease with which that life may be afflicted.

We invite educational institutions to help dispel the myths and inaccuracies about Terri’s life and death, and to contribute to our society’s debate regarding the rights of the disabled by providing accurate, factual information and mature reflection on the ethical demands of caring for the weak and vulnerable.

We invite all people to use the resources on this website and to help us continue to draw good out of the sad and tragic way in which Terri was treated.

This is a companion piece featured in Life News and set in a thread by wagglebee. It features comments from Terri's sister, Suzanne, as well.

............................

St. Petersburg, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The family of Terri Schiavo and a leading Catholic pro-life group have released details about their plans for the first-ever Terri's Day. Observed on March 31, the day Terri succumbed from the painful 13-day starvation and dehydration death her former husband subjected her to, the day is one to honor her life and help others.

As LifeNews.com reported in December, Priests for Life and the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation announced the establishment of the "International Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schindler Schiavo, and All of Our Vulnerable Brothers and Sisters."

The purpose of the day, the groups told LifeNews.com on Thursday, is to foster education, prayer, and activism regarding discrimination against the disabled.

They hope to help other disabled patients like Lauren Richardson and others in situations similar to what Terri and her family faced.

"No family should ever have to witness what my family witnessed, watching a loved one slowly dehydrate to death," Suzanne Vitadamo, Terri's sister, told LifeNews.com.

"We want Terri's day to remind us all that persons with disabilities are never burdens and should be treated with nothing but our unconditional love and compassion," she added....................

Catholic News Agency just released this update on Lauren...

....................................

Lauren Richardson

.- In a case recalling the conflict over Terri Schiavo, two divorced parents in Delaware are fighting over whether to continue life-sustaining nutrition for their brain-damaged adult daughter, the News Journal reports.

Lauren Richardson, 23, has been in a so-called persistent vegetative state since overdosing on heroin in August 2006.  Pregnant at the time, she was kept alive at a hospital with feeding tubes and a breathing machine until she gave birth in February 2007 to a healthy baby girl.

Her parents Randy Richardson and Edith Towers are currently disputing whether her feeding tube should be removed.

Towers, who says her daughter did not wish to live in such a state and wants the feeding tube removed, was awarded guardianship of Lauren in January.

Her father Randy Richardson disagrees, "She's committed no crime and doesn't deserve to have this death imposed on her," he told the News Journal.  He is appealing the ruling awarding guardianship to Towers, his ex-wife.  The appeal will take three months.

Lauren lacked any living will or advance directive recording her wishes in writing.

In court, Towers testified that Lauren in 2005 had reacted badly to reports of Terri Schiavo, a brain-damaged woman whose parents fought her husband in a legal battle to continue nourishing her via a feeding tube.

According to Towers, Lauren said, "Don't ever leave me hooked up to life support. I would not want that. I think it is horrible. I think that I do not ever want to be kept on life support if the doctors say there's no hope.".......................

McCain Scrutiny....

What do we have to wait for in November, the Marx brothers, Groucho, Harpie, and Karl??

What are their dreams, to make another Zimbabwe out of a Rhodesia? Here are McCain 's observations on Terri.

"I understand the frustrations a lot of Republicans feel," McCain says. "We're not representing their hopes and dreams and aspirations. We worry about Ms. Schiavo before we worry about balancing the budget. We're going to take up this Family Marriage Amendment again. Why? The Republicans will vote one way, and the Democrats will vote another, and everybody knows it! It's pointless. I've never seen Washington as polarized as it is today."

Which reminds him...

"I would never say this publicly, but some of these talk-show hosts -- and I'm not saying they should be taken off the air; they have the right to do what they want to do -- I don't think they're good for America."...............

One of Us... In August 2006, Chris Jones wrote this intimate portrait of John McCain's quest for the 2008 Republican nomination. Look back at the early, uncertain days of the McCain campaign.

Bad enough that McCain floats to the top of the water, but this???? McCain mating with Charlie?? Arghhhhhhh...

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist might fit that bill. Crist made a critical endorsement of McCain before the primary, and Crist campaigned hard with McCain, helping him win the state. Crist is not without problems, however. He lacks national recognition and may come under some fire from evangelicals for not doing more on the Terri Schiavo case while attorney general.

To sound intelligent in college these days, just warble some refrains of the left and you will be adored and heralded as thoughtworthy...

Why was it necessary for the U.S. Congress and senate to be extraordinarily inefficient and/or daft in 2005? Was an emergency session for Terri Schiavo, weeks spent debating the legality of flag burning or months spent glorifying heterosexual marriages obligatory or even imperative? Consider that all the other foreign and domestic issues — such as changing strategies for the war and increasing minimum wage — took more than a year to come to fruition......

If you are going to San Francisco...You're sure to find some gentle people there.

Thread by wagglebee.

San Francisco, CA (LifeNews.com) -- A federal law protecting pro-life medical clinics and professionals on abortion is in legal limbo three years after abortion advocates brought a lawsuit against it. The state of California and pro-abortion groups had challenged the Weldon amendment shortly after Congress approved it and the suit has been held up in court ever since.

The Weldon provision is a federal law that prohibits the federal government or state and local governments receiving certain federal aid from discriminating against medical professionals who refuse to perform or refer for abortions......
