Coalition Forces Kill Seven Terrorists in Iraq
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Feb. 26, 2008 Multinational Division North soldiers killed seven terrorists during a firefight east of Khan Bani Saad, Iraq, early yesterday morning, military officials reported.
Soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Divisions 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, were ambushed while conducting an operation to capture a known al Qaeda operative. Three of the soldiers were injured by small-arms fire in the initial attack, but were taken to coalition hospitals, where they were reported to be in stable condition. Seven terrorists were killed and two were detained during the operation, officials said.
In other news from Iraq, paratroopers with the 82nd Airborne Divisions 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, captured a suspected Iranian-supported special groups commander in Baghdad’s Shaab neighborhood. “Grid Problems Cause Florida Power Outages, Shut Down Nuclear Plant”
Tuesday, February 26, 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The utility said it was trying to determine what caused equipment failure and a fire at the substation that led to the outage. The company said such equipment failure should not have caused the widespread blackouts.
A FPL spokesman initially said its nuclear plant caused the outages to about a fifth of Florida’s population. But the utility’s nuclear spokesman, Dick Winn, later said grid problems caused both Turkey Point reactors to shut down.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Several Miami-area hospitals switched to backup generators when the power went out. Miami-Dade schools were scheduled to be dismissed on time, and officials said school buses would be running.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Bob Wild, a sports marketing consultant who lives in Miami’s southern Kendall neighborhood, said he didn’t even notice the outage, thanks to his home’s generator.”

“Pakistan says militant linked to Bhutto attack arrested”
AFP on Yahoo ^ | 2/26/08 | Sami Zubeiri
Posted on 02/26/2008 12:32:33 PM PST by NormsRevenge
SNIPPET: “ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistani security forces arrested a top militant with links to Osama bin Laden in connection with an October assassination attempt on Benazir Bhutto, the interior minister said Tuesday.
Qari Saifullah Akhtar — a top extremist leader accused by Bhutto of plotting against her in a book published after her assassination in December — was seized on Monday, interior minister Hamid Nawaz told AFP.
“Most probably he is involved in the attack in Karsaz on Benazir Bhutto’s rally. He is a big character,” Nawaz said, referring to the October attack on Bhutto’s homecoming parade in Karachi’s Karsaz district that killed 139 people.
Two-time premier Bhutto was unharmed in that attack, but was killed two months later in another assassination attempt, in Rawalpindi at an election rally.
Akhtar was seized with his three sons, Nawaz added.
Akhtar was the one-time head of Harkat Jihad-e-Islami, the main Pakistan support group for Afghanistan’s extremist Taliban movement, and he spent most of his time before 2004 living in Afghanistan, and met bin Laden several times.
He was arrested in the United Arab Emirates in August 2004 and later extradited to Pakistan, where he was released under unclear circumstances.
An official in Punjab province said that Akhtar was recently engaged in a brawl with a rival jihadi group over the occupation of a shrine there, and said the arrest was likely linked to the dispute, not the attack on Bhutto.”
Its nice to be right once in a while. :P
Heck...I think you’re right almost all the time.

Analyst warns of third Islamic terrorist wave enabled by internet
The latest terrorist wave is largely a self-limiting threat, Sageman said, because it's made up mostly of bored, unemployed young people with fantasies of glory and thrills. That profile lacks the ideological commitment to jihad that is typical of the older al Qaeda generation. Feeling shut out of the local labor market, they turn to crime and, in many cases, join gangs. They typically lead a life of crime for about a decade and then turn to religion as a salvation, he added, proceeding down a path of radicalization and violence sparked by moral outrage.
In the United States, the idea of a national melting pot and the American dream tend to weaken the appeal of jihadism among Muslim Americans. The ones who migrate to the United States typically are university professors, engineers, physicians and business professionals who more easily enter the labor force. The average Muslim family in America makes about $70,000 per year, compared with the national average of $48,000, Sageman said.
I find it hard to believe it’s a “grid problem.” The weather is so pleasant, it’s unbelievable. Wouldn’t the “grid” overload during the hot summer months, when everyone’s got their AC running full blast?
I’m not a scientist, so I don’t know the answer JellyJam.
I can say that I will be watching for more updates on this power outage.

“Two on ‘terrorist watch list’ turned over to the FBI”
Tuesday, February 26, 2008 2:18 PM PST
By JB Miller
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “”There were just indicators that something wasn’t right with the vehicle,” said Dobbertin. “We searched. My dog indicated that there was the presence of narcotic odor in the vehicle,” he added.
Dobbertin said he then called Border Patrol to assist. “They (the driver and passenger) were transported back when we found out that they were on the national terrorist watch list, and the investigation was turned over to Border Patrol and FBI,” said Dobbertin. He added that the men were of Middle Eastern descent and had been residing in Sierra Vista.
“They were on the list because apparently they were non-U.S. citizens going to Nogales to basically bond out an individual - their associate - who was also a non-U.S. citizen that had been stopped the night before by Customs and Border Protection agents for entering the United States illegally,” said Dobbertin.”

re: 1216
I can’t resist posting this comic relief...
A man had just settled into his seat next to the window on the plane when
another man sat down in the aisle seat and put his black Labrador Retriever in
the middle seat next to the man. The first man looked very quizzically at the
dog and asked why the dog was allowed on the plane.
The second man explained that he was a DEA agent and that the dog was a
‘sniffing dog’. ‘His name is Sniffer and he’s the best there is. I’ll show you
once we get airborne, when I put him to work.’
The plane took off , and once it has leveled out, the agent said,
‘Watch this.’ He told Sniffer to ‘search.’
Sniffer jumped down, walked along the aisle, and finally sat very
purposefully next to a woman for several seconds. Sniffer then returned to his
seat and put one paw on the agent’s arm.
The agent said, ‘Good boy’, and he turned to the man and said, ‘That woman is in
possession of marijuana, so I’m making a note of her seat number and the
authorities will apprehend her when we land.
‘Say, that’s pretty neat,’ replied the first man.
Once again, the agent sent Sniffer to search the aisles. The lab sniffed about,
sat down beside a man for a few seconds, returned to its seat, and this time he
placed two paws on the agent’s arm.
The agent said, ‘That man is carrying cocaine, so again, I’m making a note of
his seat number for the police.’
I like it!’ said his seat mate.
The agent then told Sniffer to ‘search’ again.
Sniffer walked up and down the aisles for a little while, sat down for a moment,
and then came racing back to the agent, jumped into the middle seat and
proceeded to shit all over the place.
The first man was really grossed out by this behavior and couldn’t
figure out how or why a well-trained dog would behave like that, so he asked the
agent, ‘What’s going on?’
The agent nervously replied, ‘He just found a bomb.’
Oh man...totally gross, but I’m laughing.
