The Berkley City Council are vermin to be sure, but I can’t help wondering what kind of people the USMC would recruit in that place.

I read this San Francisco Chronicle article on it and in the reader comments section, someone posted who said he had been in charge of recruiting in the Berkeley / East Bay area and Berkeley was a surprisingly good place for recruits.

To my surprise, demographically Berkeley has a very large black population, and is not a very wealthy community. I am not referring to the rich white folks up in the hills, but to the majority blue collar population that live and go to school there. Cal is also a very fertile recruiting area and all the services have done very well over the years recruiting there as well.

(I did not want to link the commenter's entire remarks since sfgate.com is a no-no for that here.)

Marine Corps Hymn

This one is played on the bag pipes. Still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and gives me chills.

The Berkeley Municipal Code webpage is here

http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/bmc/

but it is also offline.

Over the years I have found myself defending Berkeley to people who have never lived there, but this is indefensible. Time for some blowback.

I guess it’s the image I have of the place. I’ve never been in Berkley, even though I went in and out of Naval Station Alemeda quite a lot in the early 70’s. The place just doesn’t get much good press, and the despicable behavior of their City Council in this matter sure doesn’t help.

I had the same image, and I have been there, though that was decades ago (even then it was a liberal haven). But I really liked that guy's comment, and the picture that's been posted on threads here of the black guy giving the protesters the what-for.

It's common here on FR to read and react negatively to all the usual silliness of the you-owe-me "black leadership", but here's an example of a black man fighting back the scum (all lily white as it happens) to try to keep open the recruiting office and the opportunity for young men and women in that community to enlist in the military, serve their country and gain the benefits thereof. Bravo to him!!!

If you send a comment try and make it intelligent and dignified. Remember, we are not loons like the people from Code Pink. So, if you write, try and make your comments in keeping with the high standards of people who think like we do!

Someday, when the bay area is overrun by murdering invaders or anarchists, in wholesale slaughter, there will be a wailing and gnashing of teeth and a cry for help which will be unanswered. Cosmic justice will prevail.

"We should move all Military Bases out of California. Maybe to Mexico."

We SHOULD move all military bases out of California, and require that all business that have defense contracts also more. Then we should give California back to Mexico.

I'm sure Boxer and Lee would LOVE serving in the Mexican legislature--after all, those are REAL socialists.

“I don’t think any of us paid enough attention to it, and people want to rewrite it to more accurately portray our sentiments,” said Maio, who supported the resolutions. “We really do have a great deal of concern for the people in our military, and we don’t want to be critical of the sacrifices they are making.”

Makes you wonder how many other pieces of legislation they’ve passed but have not ‘paid enough attention to it.” My guess is only the ones that have caused a public outcry...

“Sen. DeMint may not like what the Berkeley City Council has to say, but to punish the children, police, first responders and the university for something they had nothing to do with is just plain wrong,” said Natalie Ravitz, the spokeswoman.” from Sen Boxer (D)

Sen Boxer spouts the Lib DhimmiRat party line. Of course, they would present this in its worst light. DeMint is correct to pursue this minor sanction against the city.

This politically correct crowd, in the Peoples’ Republic of Kalifornia sicken me to the very core. They welcome the protection provided, and then slap the face of those providing it. Disgusting display of PC crap, IMO.

Through all the discussion on this subject I have not heard anything on how many many Marines are recruited at this station. Anyone have any idea how many young men and women are enlisted through this recruiting office?

The Marines will accept his offer to help them leave, he can help fill the sand bags and string the concertina wire.

Bates said he has received more than 1,000 e-mails on the resolution, mostly from "the right wing that has really seized up on this and mobilized to pound us."

Aww, poor baby, he found out that actions have consequences. Man, I bet he was a crappy Army captain.

He is both a cunning linguist and a master debater.

I seriously doubt that he is a cunning linguist. Master debater yes, and his best friends are: Phillip McCan, Phil McCracken, and Neil Downe.

From his “Wikipedia” bio, born in 38, played on Cal’s 59 Rose Bowl team and served as CAPT USAR in Germany after college...
Of course even if he did go to VN probably wouldn’t be considered a good endorsement in Berkeley.....
BTW someone has ‘added some info on his BIO.’
