Romney Appoints Hazleton Defender Kris Kobach To Advisor On Immigration
Diggers realm ^ | Feb. 2, 2008 | Matt Carden

Posted on 02/02/2008 7:53:57 AM PST by AuntB

Well I am absolutely stunned. After wondering for months about how serious Romney was on tackling illegal immigration and the strange endorsement of Tom Tancredo after dropping out of the race, Romney has issued the coup de grace. Mitt Romney has appointed Immigration Warrior Kris Kobach to his advisory staff.

Who is Kris Kobach? Well you may remember Kris as the lead attorney in defending Hazleton, Pennsylvania's Illegal Immigration Relief Act. Kris has been a leader in the fight against illegal immigration in this country and his addition to the Romney team shows that he is deadly serious about ending illegal immigration.

I'm telling you, I'm sitting here just absolutely stunned. That is how unforeseen this was to me.

After this appointment, I see no way that I cannot at least support Romney's immigration stance now. Before it was all words. As for Romney's other positions, well that's up to you to judge.

This in from The Carden Chronicles

For those that are not familiar with Professor Kobach, he is a noted Immigration expert, Professor Of Law And Head Of The Kansas Republican Party.

In 1996, Professor Kobach joined the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law (UMKC) faculty.

In 2001, he was awarded a White House Fellowship serving in the office of U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft. There he would serve as the Attorney General's chief adviser on immigration law and border security. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Kobach was charged with the Department of Justice's (DOJ) efforts to tighten border security and implement the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System.

Before leaving DOJ in 2003, he led the reform of the immigration court system. Professor Kobach has litigated a number of high-profile immigration lawsuits including representing the city of Hazleton, Pennsylvania.

He is a Senior Counsel at the Immigration Reform Law Institute. At the Law School, he teaches Constitutional law and immigration law.

Absolutely stunned.

Contrast this with McCain's disgusting appointment of Juan Hernandez as his Hispanic Outreach Director discovered a few days ago.

For more on Kris Kobach read my extensive day by day coverage of the Hazleton trial from March 2007.

This dude is the ANTI-Juan Hernandez who is on McCain's staff.

These are your choice, Romney who hires ANTI-ILLEGAL alien folks or McCain who hires a dude who thinks WE ARE TRESSPASSING ON MEXICAN LAND.

McCain hired the NO BORDERS freak Juan Hernandez.

Contrast that with McCain's appointment of a La Raza activist to advise him on immigration issues. Personnel appointments tell one more about a candidate's thinking that his policy statements. They are also indicative of the kind of people with whom he will staff his administration.

This is outstanding news. It means he is listening to Santorum and Tancedo and acting on it. This guy is the opposite of McCain's Hernadez who believes the entire southwest and most of the west coast and intermountain west should be back with Mexico.

Good for Mitt...more indication that his "changes" are sincere and heartfelt and that he is going to do something about them.

Yeah; but will this pairing last and who replaced him in Hazelton which might not be a good thing?

All is NOT lost!

We have three days to stop McCain. If you want to help us you don’t even have to leave your house.

The calls you make that connect you to voters could put Mitt over the top, they could mean the difference in determining our next president.

Pass this info on to as many people as possible.

McCain must be stopped!

Glad to see this and I am sure others are also!

Now that all the MSM talk about the economy being the top issue, it seems they want to play down the illegal immigration isue. The DEMS sure don’t want to talk about it and McCain and Huckabee don’t want to talk about it!

If folks still have illegal immigration/national security as their top issue, lets just compare the three candidates left on that one issue. Since McCain and Huckabee are for amnesty in one form or another, and Romney is not, I would go for Romney on that issue alone!

“Good for Mitt...more indication that his “changes” are sincere and heartfelt and that he is going to do something about them.”

Exactly. The big difference between Romney and McCain, is Romney has an open mind, will listen and learn. McCain...he’s always right, why would he change?
