Senator Tom McClintock: "I'm not sure if Ron Paul is presidential Timber"
7 Days Before The Primary, McClintock Refuses To Endorse Ron Paul
By Martin Hill
LibertyFight.com:

As a former supporter of California State Senator Tom McClintock, I've been very disappointed in im in recent years, particularly after he endorsed gun-grabbing socialist Arnold Scwarzenegger in 2006. So last week I wrote and posted the article 'Which Big-Government Socialist Will Tom McClintock Endorse Next?' (I also posted it at RON PAUL WAR ROOM and DAILY PAUL). When I had started writing the article, Fred Thompson was still in the race for president. Then Fred abruptly dropped out, and I wanted to challenge Tom McClintock to offer his Ron Paul endorsement. I had heard McClintock interview Ron Paul last August, and Mcclintock was very favorable towards Paul.

With the neocon CFR actor Fred out of the race, I wrote a follow up letter to McClintock, entitled An Open Letter To Senator Tom McClintock, {Also at DailyPaul & Ron Paul War Room.. I e-mailed it to The Senator both at his office and to his website, CITIZENS FOR THE CALIFORNIA REPUBLIC; and posted it on his blog, HERE.. On his blog, you will see many people urging Tom to endorse Ron Paul, since he hinted at that possibility last week to the L.A. Times.

This afternoon While visiting McClintock's website I saw an announcement that he would be live on KOGO radio (600AM San Diego) at 5PM! I Immediately got on the line and was lucky enough to be one of two callers who got on the air to ask McClintock a question. Here is the transcript of that call. Audio to be posted soon.

Call in to KOGO 600AM, Monday, January 28, 2008, ~5:24PM

Roger Hedgecock: Tom McClintock, let's take a call from Martin, on a cell phone. Hi Martin.

Martin: Hi Tom, Hi Roger. Hey Tom, a lot of people are eagerly awaiting to see if you're going to endorse Congressman Raul for president; or, do you have another favorite??

Tom McClintock:Well, my favorite was Fred Thompson, and you know what happened to him. Umm, I've been saying all along, I'm looking for, a presidential, uh, uh, candidate who I can trust to respect our Constitution, and defend our borders, and, reduce the burdons of government, uh, on our people. And I've got reservations about all of the, uh, candidates Republican and Democrat. I just got my ballot delivered to me today, I'm still not sure how I'm gonna cast that vote. Um, uh.. Ron Paul...uh, in fact, remember, uh, uh, Roger, that when I guest hosted for you that day, uh, Ron Paul was one of our guests.

Roger: Yep.

McClintock: Um, and, my my my read of him is, he is raising some awfully important questions that need to be raised; and he's got a very enthusiastic group of people behind him. And a very eclectic group spanning the entire political spectrum, who are responding to a basic message, and that is, 'we want our Constitution back', we want it all back. Uh, I'm not sure that Ron Paul is presidential timber. But I do believe he is raising some very important issues that are going to, uh, have to be addressed, uh, during the upcoming presidential campaign in the fall.

Roger: All right. Tom McClintock, I've got to run, uh I appreciate the opportunity...

I think Paul started out not so wacko, but since his supporters are so wacko, he’s gotten more and more wacko in his attempt to play up to them. He’s essentially whoring himself out to get the wackos and the Republican haters to throw money at him.

Neo – CONNED!

Let it not be said that no one cared, that no one objected once it’s realized that our liberties and wealth are in jeopardy. A few have, and others will continue to do so, but too many—both in and out of government—close their eyes to the issue of personal liberty and ignore the fact that endless borrowing to finance endless demands cannot be sustained. True prosperity can only come from a healthy economy and sound money. That can only be achieved in a free society.

Any with half of a brain can spout Constitutional ideas. That is what all the candidates do to make it sound good. But what have they done? The first job that a President must have is to protect the nation. Ron Paul will try to force our nation to withdraw from ever country an become isolationist. Cannot be done and be secure in this rapidly becoming smaller world.

I didn't know Fred was Jewish.</channeling Buchanan>

Or maybe that word has lost meaning (with the way that the nut-jobs out there use it to excess) to the point where it means "someone on the right wing that I disagree with." That sounds about right...

What a silly remark.

Of course, Ron Paul isn't presidential timber. Paul has proven himself out of step with most Republicans on Iraq. Frankly, Paul is kinda scary on this issue and his position can't be overlooked for a second. On the most serious foreign policy issue of our time, Paul has chosen to surrender just like the Democrats.

Not according to much of the liberal congresspeople’s legislation he has co sponsored.
Plenty of pandering going on with Ron Paul

We’ve got a guy that agrees with Harry Ried and Nancy Pelosi over Bush, with regard to Iraq.

What remains unclear about that?

I wish he would exercise more of his considerable judgement on those stupid Indian Gaming RATifications on only four of the richest tribes in the state. I'm sorry, but I think that deal stinks to high heaven!!!

Between him supportin those idiotic propositions and tinkering with the idea of endorsing supposed Saint Paul and Duncan Hunter endorsing Huckabee... It's been a miserable 10-15 days in my not so humble opinion!!!

"he [Paul} is raising some awfully important questions that need to be raised"

"I'm not sure that Ron Paul is presidential timber."

My take on these two comments is that Senator McClintock is in agreement with some of the issues Congressman Paul raises, but is not confident Congressman Paul is the right person to accomplish the changes they would require.

If that's the case, it's a fair assessment from Senator McClintock. I haven't read any comments in the past months from any FReeper that would indicate 100% opposition to everything Ron Paul has said.

I hear ya! I just saw a PRO advertisement touting how Props 94-97 would help education. It struck me: with the change moving the tribes "taxes" into the general fund, Prop 98 must kick in giving the unions yet more money to waste on our miserable school system.

You may be interested to know that for an unfortunate reason I had to call a software tech support company. The call center was in British Columbia. The Canadian I spoke with started railing about the Canadian goverment while I was on the phone. He said a number of things, that if Canada continues down the path its going, especially if the government continues integration with the US, that there would be a full fledged uprising. He was very ticked off, especially about a new law in Nova Scotia that restricts smoking in personal automobiles, and all the surveillance cameras they need to enforce it.

The anger is starting to bubble up to the surface, with these cads that keep getting put up for office, whose apparent sole goal is to destroy what few rights we have left.

If McClintock endorses Romney, that will turn things around even in this liberal state. The true conservatives will back Romney.

....”Martin: Hi Tom, Hi Roger. Hey Tom, a lot of people are eagerly awaiting to see if you’re going to endorse Congressman Raul for president; or, do you have another favorite??”....

Maybe that is the problem.... Perhaps they did not know who congressman “Raul” was....

If Raul is less nuttier than Ron Paul than I am all for him!

I can’t find any proof that McClintock will endorse Mitt Romney but it sure was a nice thought. Maybe he will but there’s only two days left. Mitt Romney does have lots of support in California and delegates are distributed by congressional district so here’s hoping Romney will do well in California after all. Personally, the endorsement of John McCain by Gov Schwarzenkennedy turned my stomach. McCain and Arnold in bed with a huge pile of democrats.

Go, Mitt!!
