Forbes endorses McCain
Politico ^ | Feb 2, 2008 | Mike Allen

Steve Forbes, the editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine and himself a former presidential candidate, announced his endorsement Saturday of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president.

Forbes had campaigned hard in Florida for former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who dropped out after Tuesday’s primary.

Two other high-profile Giuliani backers — Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Solicitor General Theodore Olson — also have switched to McCain.

The backing by Forbes is the latest in a cascade of signs that a once-reluctant Republican establishment is embracing McCain, who could wrap up the party’s presidential nomination in three days on Super Tuesday.

Don’t have 20 years for a 3rd party to gain strength. Settle for a brokered convention....

I’ll bet John McCain couldn’t tell you the price of anything at the grocery!

I believe in Freedom of Speech and of the Press, protecting the borders of the United States of America from invasion, the sanctity of human life, even the unborn. I believe gun control is hitting what you’re aiming at. I believe the Federal Government has no business telling schools what to do. I believe no government has any business telling me I have to buy health insurance.

I believe these are all critical issues. Agreeing with me on some of these but not all of them is not good enough. It’s all or none.

The smart people who run our country don’t seem to agree with me on anything.

I believe I must be a dinosaur. I am a part of the past, but it seems not of the future.

A conservative third party might have the effect of making the Republicans realize how much they need conservatives. The new party would need to get enough votes to have an obvious impact on the election.

But isn’t Forbes one of those “Greedy Wall Street people that need to be punished” according to McCain?

He likes that 25% corporate tax plan.

That's a shame. I prefer the 0% corporate tax plan. As a business person, I am sure it would be easy to convince Romney of the same.

The thing is, the fact these guys didn’t endorse him UNTIL HE CLEARLY BECAME THE FRONT RUNNER shows they’re not really interested in McCain per se, they’re just rooting for who they’ll think will win probably for their own personal benefit (i.e. a role in the new prez’s admin?)

If Mitt were running away with the nom, you’d bet that the likes of self-serving Gov. Arnold would be supporting HIM.

I just think it’s strange these guys are only coming out NOW with the endorsements when it’s all pretty much over and doesn’t mean as much as if they did it earlier.

Oh God no. Now I have to cancel my subscription to forbes.

I wish I had a subscription to Forbes just so I could cancel it.
