A President McCain would probably make me happy half of the time, and infuriate me the other half. I can’t say the same about Hillary or Obama.

"Those links lead to valuable information."

Those links lead to articles that are predominately bizzaro authors published at bizarro websites. Devvy? Raimondo? A FR vanity? Unionist Hawkins? The only two of those links that have any degree of credibility state only that McCain is moderate as opposed to an extremist. Similarly, you have posted this morning on another thread/article authored by Jack Wheeler, another bizzaro.

All this is nothing more than a separate reality. Let me suggest that you need to get away from FR for a while to get your feet on the ground.

Amen to your observation about juvenile comments. I have almost given up on Free Republic. There is little or no substantive comment anymore.

Those who care should complain to the moderator and perhaps he can start deleting that junk.

Otherwise this forum is moribund.

No. There are only people who think there are degrees of conservatism that would include moderates. Those who think that are not conservatives because they don't adhere to conservative values and convictions.

The FR forum states: As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.

No moderate can make that statement, therefore they are not conservatives.

I hate to break it to you, but the COC of Free Republic is not the be all and end all definition of conservatism. It's a documentation of conservative beliefs as defined by Jim Robinson, written to govern one website. And even it is open to "degrees of conservatism."

Example: being "pro-gun." Well, that could mean no laws limiting gun ownership PERIOD; it could mean you approve waiting periods and background checks; it could mean that only those who have never been convicted of a crime could have a gun permit. If you're one who beleives that there should be no laws against gun ownership, that's a conservative position. If you approve waiting periods and background checks, you're still a conservative, but the conservative who believes there should be no laws against gun ownership in any circumstances is to your right, making one of those conservatives a more moderate conservative than the arch-conservative. See what I'm getting at? Degrees of conservatism.

We could play the same game for a lot of the terms in Jim's definition of conservatism, but the fact remains that there are degrees of conservatism. You can pretend they don't exist if you like, but you would be wrong.

So you are saying that only one member of the Federalist Society supports McCain? Which one?

Well, if you're counting, make that two. I'm supporting Romney in the primary on Tuesday, but when McCain is the candidate, I'll support him.
