The American people favor legal immigration, control of the border, ending illegal immigration with an emphasis on employer responsibility, immediate deportation of felons who are here illegally, a requirement to return home to become legal temporary workers, assimilation of those who sincerely want to become American, and a sophisticated, technologically advanced temporary worker system.
SPECIFICALLY:
★ The American people want to increase the number of visas for highly-educated immigrants or those with special skills, the so-called H1B and H2B visas. (63 to 29)
★ The American people believe border control is a security issue. Terrorists are trying to enter the United States illegally. (86 to 12)
★ Illegal immigrants who commit felonies should be deported. (88 to 10)
★ There should be a worker visa program making it easier for people to work legally in the United States. (83 to 16)
★ Allowing illegal immigrants to remain in this country undermines respect for the law. Therefore to join a worker visa program workers must apply from their own country. They could not apply from the United States and must return home first. (69 to 27)
★ When applying for a temporary worker visa each worker should take an oath to obey American law and be deported if they commit a crime while in the United States. (93 to 8)
★ In a worker visa program each worker will receive a tamper-proof identification card that will allow the government to track him or her. (89 to 11)
★ Each worker will go to immigration centers in their home country that will help them find jobs in the United States so they apply for a visa with a job in hand. (84 to 14)
★ A real time verification system should be established to verify immigration status and it should be outsourced to companies like American Express, Visa, or MasterCard so businesses can immediately identify whether or not someone has forged papers. (73 to 20)
★ No company should market services such as credit cards or bank accounts specifically to people who are in the United States illegally. (78 to 18)
★ There should be heavy monetary fines against employers and businesses who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. (78 to 20)
★ The Internal Revenue Service should conduct audits of companies who hire illegal immigrants to determine if those companies have paid the taxes they owe. (83 to 15)

Republican candidates for office might do well to read this.
Sounds good...but I am also totally against any guest worker amnesty program.
Only when it can be truly determined that there are not enough Americans available to do a certain job....then we should allow those industries to get guest or temp visas
The H1 and H2 visas are already being abused...many going to unskilled workers.
AMen to that
Does America really care? I'm confused, masses of people raised enough hell that we killed off the amnesty vote.
Now America has put up 3 major politicians (McCain, Obama and Clinton) for nomination to the presidency. These nominees will push amnesty faster than GWB.
That should be your answer right there.
You’ve almost got it, Newt, but not quite. Keep trying.
I honestly don’t know what America as a whole wants anymore, but here is what *I* want. I posted this in another thread here, but I still dream of a President that will tackle the immigration problem with a multifaceted, TOTAL solution.
1. Build the wall.
2. Beef up border security personnel numbers and train them well.
3. Get rid of all subsidies, perks, freebies: Abolish welfare. Dont even think about giving out drivers licenses. NO VISA WORKER PROGRAMS. Illegals get nothing, nada. No freebies, no benefits, nothing.
4. Abolish the law that says that if youre born to illegal aliens within this country, you are a citizen.
5. Punish employers of illegals with stiff penalties and prison time.
6. Make illegal immigration an automatic felony.
7. Deploy the National Guard to clean up gang-infested areas.
8. Print every government-issued document in English only. (Yes, this will be harder on legal immigrants also, but it also sends the clear message that English is the national language here, and that immigrants need to assimilate and integrate, not just immigrate.)
Tell me if I missed anything...
Good call.
9. End chain migration. If a legal immigrant’s relatives want to come to the US, then they’ll have to go through the system just as the original immigrant did.
If that seems too harsh, then at least roll it back to its pre-mid-1950’s state.
How’s that?
Actually, English-only was another finding in this study.
I've said this so many times over the years I feel like a robot, but in the interest of letting readers know where I stand: I was born and raised in California. I've lived side-by-side with the Mexican people all my life.
California HAD a guest worker program for decades that worked. Everyone got what they wanted. California agriculture thrived, Mexican labor got wages to send home, and when the work was done, they left.
That all ended in the 60s with the Joan Baez/Ceasar Chavez/Democrat crowd. Were there abuses of these people? Yes. Probably.
But not compared to the mockery of our institutions and our very citizenship that we're being asked to endure now.
I like it! It is an excellent road map. It will help maintain our sovereignty and our culture. It will help keep America great.
Washington is not interested in what the American people want or care about. Only what THEY NEED TO STAY IN POWER. The twain shall never meet.
Yes, GVnana
It was called the Bracero Program, and there was also Ike’s Operation Wetback in 1954. Unfortunately, it was ended because the pc’ers bitched when a few insubry legal aliens were also “deported” along with the 100,000-plus illegals.
What Open Borders Gingrinch doesn’t say is the fact that (and Lou Dobbs has pointed this out time and time again on his show) that there are EIGHT (8) Visa programs for legal aliens!! Now, do we need a guestworker program for illegals? Perhaps, but not until the country is secure and THAT means the Fence is completed (double fence where possible) and the Feds are a LONG way from that, given that the Dems and Sen. K Bailey Hutchinson have cut out the funds!
Meanwhile, 5,000 to 10,000 illegal Mexicans break into our country every day...
...AND...
10. Expedited removal of all illegal aliens apprehended, NOT just illegal felons.
...together with...
11. An absolute end to “catch and release”, no matter HOW underfunded ICE is in terms of lacking #s of agents to check out municipalities and county sheriffs who have contacted ICE to send in agents to arrest the illegals.
If anyone here wants to know more about these, they should go to Juan Mann’s excellent deportaliens.com.
Under these findings, the worker must apply in their home country -- not when they're already here in the US.
They get a tamper-proof ID.
Banks cannot trade with illegals.
I can’t speak for America (and neither can Newt), but I want a wall and illegal aliens deported.
THIS issue alone is why Gingrinch didn’t run for President. He couldn’t b.s. conservatives again as he had done in ‘94 after pushing thru NAFTA for Clinton. The man was a traitor to conservatism and to the Party. There was only one man we hated more than Gingrinch, and that man was and is McNasty, AND for good reason!
This is a money race. Nobody gets to vote for a real representative of the people. We only vote for the one who got the best price for selling out or has a personal fortune.
One point on your #10: My rule #6 would mean that they’re already illegal felons, the moment they set foot in this country.
#11: Yes. Deport.
Oh, REALLY?
Say it ain’t so! Actually, GVnana, American banks with few exceptions do LOTS of business with illegals—giving them bank accounts, selling them mortgages, the works! Perhaps you mean something else when you say “trade”...
I KNEW you’d catch me on that, Roger2! I was referring to the law as it stands NOW, before your points go into law...
Ha! OK, that makes sense.
Add 1 more: U.S. citizens that pay taxes should not have to wait years to bring immediate family to the country for a visit provided they show proof of ability to care for the family members.
Require a non-cancelable heath insurance policy and a bond if that is what it takes. Waiting years to see a family member because you can not leave a business is not right.
But, they require the worker to get a permit in their home country before being allowed to work here. The illegal worker would have to leave.
I'm very well aware of that and it sickens me. According to these findings 78% of the American people agree: "★ No company should market services such as credit cards or bank accounts specifically to people who are in the United States illegally. (78 to 18)"
That means you, Bank of America.
Oh, I knew I'd catch some flack over Gingrich, but look. We're going to have to tell the politicians what we want and make them do it.
I watched a group of Democrat voters raise their hands and agree to tax increases just two nights ago.
Do you think any Democrat politician wants to give up the opportunity to secure a 13 million member voting block?
I don't think so!
If we're going to get reform it's the Republicans who are going to do it. So we might as well start being coherent about what we want.
Sounds perfect to me!

Moderator: Senator McCain, Senator McCain, are you for a national, tamper-proof ID card?
McCain: That’s one of the recommendations of the 9-11 Commission. And absolutely, if someone wants to work, they have to have a document that’s tamper-proof. And any employer who employs someone else with any other document like a bogus Social Security card or birth certificate should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Moderator: Dr. Paul.
Paul: I am absolutely opposed to a national ID card. This is a total contradiction of what a free society is all about.
Paul: The purpose of government is to protect the secrecy and the privacy of all individuals, not the secrecy of government. We don’t need a national ID card.
Moderator: Mr. Tancredo, do you agree with the need for a national tamper-proof ID card?
Tancredo: We do not need a national — I do not think we need a national ID card, much for the reasons that Dr. Paul said. We absolutely need a verifiable Social Security card. They are two separate things. I believe that we can accomplish the former without jeopardizing individuals liberties...
Moderator: But you say legally you have to be who you say you are?
Tancredo: Pardon me?
Moderator: You have to be the person on that card.
Tancredo: That is absolutely what I’m saying. It’s got to be verifiable, absolutely.
Glad to see someone else noticed that. I just don't get it either.....
