LONDON -- Husbands living in a "harem" with multiple wives have been cleared to claim state benefits for all their different partners. A Muslim man with four spouses - which is permitted under Islamic law - could receive £10,000 a year in income support alone. He could also be entitled to more generous housing and council tax benefit, to reflect the fact his household needs a bigger property. Ministers have decided that, even though bigamy is a crime in Britain, polygamous marriages can be recognised formally by the state - provided they took place overseas, in countries where they are legal. The outcome will chiefly benefit Muslim men with more than one wife....
New guidelines on income support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) state: "Where there is a valid polygamous marriage the claimant and one spouse will be paid the couple rate (£92.80)....Income support for all of the wives may be paid directly into the husband's bank account, if the family so choose.
Chris Grayling, the shadow work and pensions secretary, said that the decision was "completely unjustifiable". He added: "You are not allowed to have multiple marriages in the UK, so to have a situation where the benefits system is treating people in different ways is totally unacceptable and will serve to undermine confidence in the system. This sets a precedent that will lead to more demands for the culture of other countries to be reflected in UK law and the benefits system."
Mr Grayling also accused the Government of trying to keep the ruling quiet because the topic is so controversial.
Corin Taylor, research director for the Taxpayers' Alliance, said: "British taxpayers are paying a record amount of tax so the Government has a duty to make sure that every penny is spent properly. Polygamy is not something which British law allows and therefore British taxpayers should not have to pay for extra benefits for second or third wives.... Ministers launched a review of the benefit rules for polygamous marriages in November 2006, after it emerged that some families had benefited financially. The review concluded in December last year with agreement that the extra benefits should continue to be paid. But the decision was not publicly announced...
What, I wonder, is a “valid polygamous marriage” under British law?
And I continue to get e-mails from “friends” in the UK telling me how awful we Americans are.
Clueless idiots.
Sheesh, Look at what England has done!
Idiots——they want to kill you, wake up!
They marry using Shia law so why would the marriages be recognized ???
And what happened to their bigamy laws ???
Are they limited to the usual 4 wives ???
According to the article, “...even though bigamy is a crime in Britain, polygamous marriages can be recognised formally by the state - provided they took place overseas, in countries where they are legal.”
Can beheadings and the removal of limbs for thievery be far behind?
>>And I continue to get e-mails from friends in the UK telling me how awful we Americans are.<<
I don’t blame them. After all, all the Muslims want to do is kill them. We, on the other hand, are fat and uncultured.
Who you callin’ fat????
If they want to adhere to their nation's custom of polygamy they should stay there. But, no, they have decided to let some other country support them all. The British are being duped again. I wonder how many of those men and women are plotting terrorists supported by the government!
Americans in general. We have the fattest poor people in the world!
Please tell me why the government is allowing people to immigrate to the UK and go on welfare? And bring multiple wives.
Summary of British Muslim Policies:
1. Open Box
2. Remove revolver
3. Load revolver
4. Place barrell of revolver to right temple
5. Pull back the hammer
5. Pull trigger
Yes, and that's the question. How can something be simultaneously illegal and also recognized and even compensated? I'm obviously ignorant of British jurisprudence but this strikes me as a rather contradictory state of affairs. Perhaps polygamy and bigamy are differentiated, but I'm baffled as to how.
F***ing dhimmis.
In a Daily Telegraph article, the paper asked for comments on what to do about rising violent crime and yob culture there-many respondents called for sharia law. Fools, they can longer even govern themselves. The nanny state there has destroyed that nation.
Ergo, they'll have plenty of more time and resources to sit in mosque and plan how to carry out selected atrocities on British subjects.
What a system. Shoulda let the nazi's have em.
They got FReeped by the muzzies.......
Unfortunately, the voters in the United States want to bring socialism here. And will probably succeed in ‘08.
>Sick. Just ****ing sick.
Yep. Abraham would be completely in arms over this...
Let me tell you... I had a possible job offer there last year. You should have seen the paperwork that I had to fill out. I even had to get a certified letter from the Universities where I received my BBA and my MBA stating that all of my courses were taught in ENGLISH!!!
Thats just the beginning. I had to prove I was not currently on welfare, hadn’t even thought about committing a crime, I had a job, that the job paid enough to support me, that I could afford to pay all of the VAT taxes on all of the items I was bringing in, like the TV tax on and on and on.
Eventually I said the salary they were going to pay me was not enough to justify the hassle let alone the double taxation of the US taxing my UK income. Just forget it.
Of course I was trying to do it legally... That may have been my problem.
This the most pathetic shit I’ve ever heard. Disgusting groveling to foreign born Islamics
Hard to belive this is the same Britain that fought back from a very poor position and beat the Nazis.
Stroke of a pen, law of the land. Easy.
What they did was preserve the ban on conducting a wedding In the UK if you are already married, but they no longer define being married to more than one woman at the same as bigamy, only marrying (that is conducting the ceremony), a second, third or fourth wife in the UK.
Curiously though, I believe that under sharia law a muslim man is only allowed to have multiple wives if, and only if, he has the means to provide for them.
These guys are unable to provide for their wives if they are on the public dole.
This is “haram”. :-)
These guys are unable to provide for their wives if they are on the public dole.
How true. Muzz men are only supposed to take on multiple wives when they can afford them.
With its generous dole Great Britain is making these illiterate 7th century beggars into princes with harems
Article 11
A Contracting State may refuse to recognize the validity of a marriage only where, at the time of the marriage, under the law of that State -
(1) one of the spouses was already married; or ....
UK signed it. Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Syria, Algeria, Libya and Iran have not. Why the hell is this western nation recognizing polygamous marriages from non-signatory states????
Have the Royals secretly converted to Islam or has everyone in England just lost their d*mned minds?
This is ridiculous. Britain is cooked if it continues on this dhimmi path.
Am I to assume that you support polygamy as a state sponsored gateway for terrorists then?
England “assumes the position!”
Last one out of Britain, turn out the lights.
pinging you from the “Just in case you still held onto any shred of hope for the UK” file.
I am pretty sure some witty muslim on cnn can point out the verse in the koran that says its ok to suck the man dry just before you cut off his head and rape his women.
We should not allow the English to immigrate to the US. Whatever brain disease with which they are infected could spread. It is a danger greater than the illegal immigrants from Mexico.
The same reason why illegal alien women here with minimum wage jobs can afford to have lots of babies. They know the government will support their babies with our tax money.
Not sure why my comment would suggest that Abraham was a terrorist.
tnx 4 ping.
truly depressing what’s happening across europe.
