THERE IS A LEFT-WING conspiracy at loose in the world, dedicated to undoing conservative governance, only the people who see it aren't sure what it is. John McCain is in it, of course, in fact he is the cause of it, as making him president is the ultimate goal. He is blamed for running, (and perhaps, for breathing), but beyond him the face of the threat is less clear. In fact, the faces are those of other conservative stalwarts, who were their heroes and brethren until--until, say, just after the Florida primary, when McCain emerged as a serious threat. These include Mike Huckabee, the once well-thought of former Arkansas governor (and hero of the social conservative part of the movement), who unaccountably refuses to withdraw from the race on their orders; Tom Coburn and Sam Brownback, perhaps the most conservative members of the United States Senate; Jack Kemp, the supply-side Reagan enthusiast; Phil Gramm, the most conservative Republican to run in the 1996 contest; and Ted Olson, the hero of the Federalist Society, who argued and won the case of Bush vs. Gore. (They may also include the late President Reagan's widow, who, according to the Drudge Report, hearts John McCain.)

“Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”Matthew 17:19-21.
Welcome to FR.
This article hits the nail on the head.
Now I wait in anticipation for all the ignorant “McLame”, “McNasty”, “McManiac” type posts.
Don’t know about a conspiracy. But there’s one thing for sure of all the flawed candidates we were/are forced to choose from he is the worst of all.
I don’t get it. Does this guy think we’re getting a good conservative in John McCain or does he just think we’re a bunch of idiots and it glad we’re getting what we deserve?
With any luck McCain will be the nominee. The result will be the call for a Conservative convention and the start of a legitimate third party movement that has a true ideoloogical base.
That is a recipe for permanent irrelevance.
Government millionaires who are all on the political welfare system...
They all get government checks.
McCain as the GOP nominee gives Hillary! her best chance of winning. It’s as simple as that.
And with your 15% of the former Republican party vote, what will you do?
“That is a recipe for permanent irrelevance.”
And what do we have now? I’m irrelevant considering I now have NO representation in this Republic which has become a democracy. Maybe a third party will give me SOME representation. I’m for it Melchior.
Defeat you.
In this article, Emery builds an entire city of straw men.
Pathetic little article.
I know, I know, you all think that lack of conservative purity equals liberal. Everything is black and white. That opinion is so irrational, yet so ingrained, that its really not even worth trying to dissuade you.
Whether it’s McInsane vs. Hitlery or McQueeg vs. Hussien Osama in the 2008 election, either way, the democRATS will have won.
you would think this is a football game and talk radio are the coaches. This is a very important election. I Know that McCain will be the best man to fight terrorism
Nice try. I will not vote for that man. EVER!
Check out the above link and then come back and debate about conservative purity.
McCain’s ready to sell out our country to the open borders crowd. His advisor, Juan Hernandez, has links to George Soros for goodness sakes.
Now you can have your anticipation relieved.
McCain is all those names you mentioned and more. Let me add McLoser to the list.
I am not going about ripping most other high profile conservatives who endorsed McCain. I certainly rip the LIBERALS who endorse McCain....the "New York Times", for instance, is a GREAT EXAMPLE of why we need not support Mr. Amnesty.
I WILL SAY I have seen on this board McCain supporters who, when told of high profile conservatives who support Mitt, decide to attack those conservatives. I've seen bad words spoken about, for instance, Joe Ariposa (the sherrif from Arizona) and Judge Robert Bork.
Hey, if Ted Olson wants to throw his hat into McCain's corner, then that is fine with me. He is backing a guy who voted against tax cuts, voted for amnesty, won't let us drill in ANWR, swallows Global Warming propaganda, and wrote one of the most restrictive anti-First Amendment law in the history of the Republic.
Mitt Bashers like to point out where Mitt was liberal in the past, but refuse to acknowledge McCain's current liberal stands!
Mitt has the balls to say he was wrong before, particularly on the life question. McCain won't see when he is wrong NOW.
“you all think that lack of conservative purity equals liberal”
Are you kidding me? Have you looked at McCain for the last 8 years? Your desire to just be on the winning team is what’s irrational.
The only coherent point I was able to pick up was that the voters picked John McCain, so shut up and like it.
LOL! Good answer!
Though I don't think going third party is the right idea...I like how you responded.
Mohammad Saeed al-Sahhaf, is that you? Welcome to FR.
This article completely misses the substance of why people are concerned about McCain. I fear that McCain would make a bad president. He opposed the Bush tax cuts and supported legislation that would require a supermajority in congress and the senate to reduce taxes. McCain-Kennedy was terrible legilation that would destroy our country in the future. He favors huge government subsidies for illegal aliens. He favors taxes to combat global warming that would add at least $.50-$1.00 to a gallon of gas and also tax electricity, etc. McCain would not allow the interrogation of terrorists. McCain has shown himself to be corrupt(Keating 5). McCain attacks business and private enterprise. McCain as president would let Democrats like Ted Kennedy control the agenda. People who are aware and concerned about these things are now being told to shut up.
“That is a recipe for permanent irrelevance.”
Not exactly. The Republican Party started out as a third party. The Progressive Party wound up influencing both the Republicans and the Democrats. Even the Socialists wound up influencing the New Deal.
If McCain takes the nomination, there will be absolutely no better time to go third party. That may guarantee th Dims a win, but it will give whiplash to the bigheads in the Republican Party that think they can dump the conservatives and pander to the muddled middle vote.
We fought amnesty; now, we fight the authors of amnesty.
-—And with your 15% of the former Republican party vote, what will you do?
Defeat you.-—
Damn right! Well said!
In November, I will be voting for McLame, aka McNasty, aka McManiac.
But not today.
I didn't ask you...
My personal fave is Juan McAmnesty.
I’m voting for Romney today. I would rather he be the nominee. But I think its stupid and irresponsible to say that you won’t vote for McCain if he is the nominee.
Isn’t the Weekly Standard the house organ for the Teddy Kennedy Wing of the Republican Party?
“Actually, they have not done a thing beyond endorsing a four-term Republican senator with a lifetime 82 percent ACU rating”
What I would like to know is what is his ACU rating since 2000? I think McCain was a good conservative up until the South Carolina primary of 2000. Since then he has been on a mission to stick it to conservatives and George Bush. Perhaps a lot of these conservative stalwarts remember the John McCain of pre-2000. Since then has come all of his ridiculous positions such as McCain/Feingold.
Me too.
There are lots of people who have links to Soros. He covers all bases and he has the money to do it. He is nothing but a hungarian commmie loving nut case. and btw dont take offense. MY grt grandmother was hungarian also.
You’re right McCain’s taken a leftward turn for awhile now.
From americanthinker.com.....
First, a rating of 82.3 is not really that high. It puts Senator McCain in 39th place among senators serving in 2006, the latest year for which the ACU has its ratings posted online. For that most recent year in particular, McCain scored only 65, putting him in 47th place for that year. Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE), for example, scored 64 and 75, respectively, in 2006.
It’s not about “conservative purity.” It’s about the future of our country.
If conservatives were polled and asked who they want as President none of those still running under the GOP ticket would make the top 10. This is another piece that misses the point. Conservatives want a conservative as President. What is so difficult to understand about that?
Exactly. The Whig Party compromised itself out of existence. Lincoln, an ardent Whig and Congressman, walked away and went back into private law practice when that Party abandoned him. Later he joined a radical third party, the Republicans.
every thread now has a Messianic Mitt Message, maybe Mitt IS the Second Coming, Save us Mitt, save us from ourselves! Goin’ to Kanasas City, Kansas City Here I Come!
Mitt has abslutely no credentials when it comes to foreign policy. None !
I am a HUGE fan of Lincoln, but the historical fact is that the Republicans were simply a minority party that was able to capitalize on the fracture of the Democratic Party between north and south. Then came the war, and after the north’s victory and Lincoln’s success, everyone and their mom wanted to become a Republican.
The only way that is going to be successful is if simultaneously a large liberal party were to split away from the Democrat Party. Personally, I would rather see four major parties: conservative, moderately conservative, moderately liberal, and liberal. In my mind, four such parties would better represent the views of the country than the two existing ones.
What makes me mad about this whole process is the fact that I’m a longtime conservative republican who lives in Pennsylvania. Independents and in some cases dumbocrats in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida got to pick my parties representative for POTUS and I have no say in it. Our primary is in May.
I think that is what is honking a lot of people (like myself) off. I don’t like independents and liberals determining who my parties representative for elections is going to be.
[The result will be the call for a Conservative convention and the start of a legitimate third party movement that has a true ideological base.]
Not a Third Party, a Shadow Party within the Republican Party that holds its own convention, puts up its own candidates.
Revenge of AMNESATY man â business and political interest, Bush et al, think electing AMNESTY man is the path to eternal majority. Problem is, the handout crowd votes fascism Democrat. Itâs in the South American blood, where they wouldn’t know what freedom is, nor what to do with it. See Venezuela and huge Chavez for references about fascism and government control of profits for their personal gain. Check out what the bread and circuses crowd have to eat daily.
