Is it just me, or was there a tone of defiance in George Stephanopoulos's voice this morning as he declared that Rush Limbaugh can't stop John McCain? The "This Week" host was a guest commentator on today's Good Morning America, and co-anchor Robin Roberts began by playing a clip of a recent Rush comment.
ROBIN ROBERTS: Let's start with the Republicans. Of John McCain the big lead over Romney, but not everyone is rallying around McCain. Let's listen to this for a moment.
Cut to Rush clip.

Steph throws down the gauntlet to Rush. Ping to Today show list.
Well, Rush is only 1 vote...I am another and that makes two...anyone with us?
That’s the scary part. Everyone in America hates all the candidates... except the real extremes who love Obama!
Real scary!
You and me and Rush makes three.
And I don't believe Rush "hates" McCain. If anything Rush correctly distrusts and refuses to support that liberal RINO. But the McCainiacs want to twist anything other than blind loyalty into "hatred" to garner the sympathy vote.
I am hoping to have a small say when this thing finally hits Wisconsin. Too bad, though, early polls showed the state probably would have gone for Fred.
Little George WANTS McVain to win. The Dims WANT to run against him.
They know, even if they lose, with McVain in the WH, they win.
What if they hold an election and nobody shows up?
Well I cast my vote for Romney this morning. However in blue and pink (the country club pubbie color) Connecticut, I doubt it will do much good.
The entire MSM hates conservatives, and particularly Clintonistas like Stephenopoulos. Why is this campaign suddenly about Rush Limbaugh? Is that what we’re voting on? Shall we make this a campaign about Chris Matthews?
I don’t like McCain because he’s not a Republican, and he believes that governing means rolling over for the Democrats and the Washington establishment. I don’t care what Rush thinks about him.
Hillary will beat McCain because McCain is too OLD, she will make him look confused and erratic.
When Hillary beats McCain, RUSH will be RIGHT, again.
“Steph throws down the gauntlet to Rush. Ping to Today show list.”
I’m laughing because in my mind, Steph doesn’t have a gauntlet! More like a feather from that little man...
Not defiance, reality. It looks like McCain’s going to be almost impossible to stop at this stage. Rush or no Rush.
Its about Rush because, let’s face it, most of you wouldn’t be so vehemently against McCain if Rush were not so vehemently against McCain.
I Am.
Rush cannot elect anyone. But he can defeat anyone. No matter what happens Rush has made sure that McCain will never be president of the USA.
Thank Goodness for Rush!!!!
Maybe Rush can’t, but we can.
Rush flat out said that it would be better for a Dem to take the heat for the liberal agenda than for McCain to gain office and promote a similar agenda.
Under no circumstances will I vote for McCain.
This may come as a surpise to you, but not everyone here listens to Rush. I know who he is, of course, but I don’t care who he or anyone else endorses. I’m OFF the plantation and onto the ice. Maybe I’ll drown, but I’ll drown free.
So will you be proud of Rush if his dissing of McCain enables Hillary to become President? It should be good for ratings.
I would not underestimate McCain. here’s a guy whose campaign was left for dead not too long ago and he is taking on someone who has millions of dollars to spend. He’s got skills.
Stephanopoulos is a dwarfish little puke who is rabidly pro Dem. He has always been one to jumpt to conclusions, as he does here by saying Rush “hates” McCain. I doubt seriously if Rush hates McCain. He may hold him in contempt, but he doesn’t hate him. Kind of like me and Bill Clinton: I do not now, nor have I ever hated him. However, I have utter contempt for the man.
“Its about Rush because, lets face it, most of you wouldnt be so vehemently against McCain if Rush were not so vehemently against McCain.”
What an insult. Do you really think that those of us on this forum, who have built conservatism in this country, would let ourselves be led by a radio personality? We vote on our principles. No radio show and no political party owns our votes. The candidate must earn them.
McCain has voted for open borders. That is non-negotiable. I will never vote for him.
“...lets face it, most of you wouldnt be so vehemently against McCain if Rush were not so vehemently against McCain.”
I’m vehemently opposed to McCain because of McCain.
I have hated McCain since before the 2000 election and it wasn’t because of Rush.
Who cares what cute boy thinks?
“she will make him look confused and erratic.”
McCain-iac doesn’t need her help for that.
The Dems are ^counting^ on McCain to have a meltdown (emotional and/or mental) during the general. I believe he will oblige them.
Nothing like some good ol’ objective input from the Clinton administration.
I dislike and distrust McCain without any encouragement from Rush.
That counts for one of the biggest piles of crap I have ever seen posted on this board. On the level of MurryMom.
They will "help" him look arratic, there are ways to press him and he'll likely explode.
That’s right, we conservatives are mind numb robots!!!
"Most?" Neither you nor I have a clue about that assertion, but I'll tell you to your face right now that if Rush had endorsed John McCain, all it would have done was convince me that Rush had become a reconquista RINO. It is McCain, the country clubbers and the MSM that want to make it about Rush, because they are hell bent on making sure nobody can pull off another amnesty delay.
Mr. niteowl77
ROMNEY!
Ummmm Hello?
McCain is hated by all conservatives.
He is a democrat for crying out loud.
Better to keep quiet and let them think you a fool than to open your mouth and prove you're a fool.
I agree with Kitty about the open borders issue. It’s a show stopper, IMHO.
There is one group that loses if McShame wins... the Soros Group(s). The "shadow party" wins if Obambi or Hillary!... or Gore etc etc moves into the Whitehouse.
LOL!
Oh but you wish it weren’t true!
I am not sure Rush is trying to stop McCain as much as he is trying to stop the continued expansion of the Social Welfare State. If that is his goal, then you will try to stop ANYONE clown with title Senator in front of their name with the exception of Senator Jeff Sessions is the Senate’s token patriot.
Rush doesn’t hate anyone. He’s been as clear as can be that his opposition to McCain is not a personal issue. His opposition is based purely on policy and issue driven concerns.
Liberals must find some measure of “hate” when they disagree with someone or they are disagred with, but conservatives choose to lok at things through the prism of facts and the truth....hate is an emotion and we don’t make massively critical decisions about who out POTUS will be based upon emotions - libnuts do.
“We vote on our principles.”
Do you? Then you won’t be voting for, ‘RINO Flip’ either—will you?
Oh McCain will be stopped, it just may be in November instead of today, but it will happen.
The more you post, the smarter the rest of us look.
The truth hurts, doesn’t it?
Count me in!
What would you know about truth???? Madam Cleo has more mind reading ability than you.
McCain’s idea of governance is to roll over for the Democrats and the Washington establishment. That is precisely what we do not need in a Republican candidate. McCain is entirely untrustworthy, from a conservative point of view. Limbaugh has nothing to do with my opposition to McCain. I am able to observe, think, and draw my own conclusions, thank you.
Perhaps the lemmings are the people who believe McCain is the only person who can win.
