2nd coldest January for the planet in 15 years
Watts up with that ^

UPDATE - see new graph of global ∆T for the past year below. There has been a global drop in temperature of 0.63 degrees Centigrade in the past 12 months.
Of course we already have had a heads up from all the wire reports around the world talking about the significant winter weather events that have occurred worldwide in the last month, but until now, there hasn’t been a measure of how the planet was doing for the winter of 2007/2008.
Remote Sensing Systems of Santa Rosa just posted the latest MSU (Microwave Sounder Unit) data.
January posted a -.08°C near global anomaly between -70S and 82.5N latitude (the viewshed of the satellite sounder). That makes it the coldest month since January 2000, and the 2nd coldest January for the planet in 15 years. Both northern and southern hemispheres posted negative anomalies of -.120°C and -.038°C respectively, happening for the first time since January 2000.
The United States posted a -.557°C anomaly for January 2008 and a -0.196°C anomaly for December 2007.
Here is the raw anomaly data for January 2008

Here is my plot of the raw, unedited Global anomaly data (-70S to 82.5N) supplied by RSS per month. Note that the anomaly trend between late 2007 and early 2008 is quite steep and that the period leading up to 2008 is relatively flat.

UPDATE:
I decided to plot a magnified graph to show the global change in temperature over the last year from January 2007 to January 2008, the ∆T of -0.629°C is quite significant for a 12 month period, rivaled in the last 10 years only by the 1998 El Nino warming peak.

Probable cause- Mucho Grande La Nina. It looks like we may have a PDO shift as well. But as some say, trying to correlate such things is a “fools errand”. But, judge for yourself.

Perhaps when algore said that we now know that global climate change is much worse than we previously thought, he meant that this new data further discrediting his whole global warming alarmism is worse news for his diciples than he thought.

Clearly, the problem here is that the satellite sounder isn't located near burning trash fires and air conditioner exhausts. Somebody get on that, will ya?
All kidding aside, nice analysis.

So what could account for the blast of hot air in 1998?
Why, that is the year the Clintons were spinning the Monica scandal. Coincidence? I think not.

Call the New York Times, it's Global Cooling Again! Haven't you noticed that the MSM has already started using the phrase "Global Climate Change" instead of "Global Warming"?
Global Climate Change is so much more flexible of a theory than Global Warming or Global Cooling.
Is it hotter today than average? Proof positive of Global Climate Change.
Colder than average? Global Climate Change.
Wetter, dryer, windier, less windy, cloudier, less cloudy? It doesn't matter. Whatever the weather is anywhere in the world it is proof of Global Climate Change caused by Bush and those damned SUVs.
Of course, the only way to fix the problem is socialize more and more of the world's economy and put liberals in charge.

Chama New Mexico has received 12 feet of snow this winter. The Governor has declared an emergency and this morning sent in the National Guard. Roofs have collapsed on the town food market and Catholic church plus private residences, water lines frozen and some elderly persons trapped and unable to get out. Some pictures below:

For the record, we're having a record heat wave in western PA: 60 degrees. Southeast and central east has gotten off fairly easy this winter. Classic strong La Nina now formed in the Pacific. If the Atlantic cools off next winter, you wont see that kind of temp at this time of year. The west also had a record heat wave in February of last year. So perhaps you are one season behind on the march toward Global Cooling. The Pacific leads the way.

The United States posted a -.557°C anomaly for January 2008 and a -0.196°C anomaly for December 2007. And I bet if you looked at just the Western US (west of the continental divide) that incredible anomaly would be even greater.
To: Allegra
Well you tell those Iraqis that it won’t happen again if the American people will elect John McCain.... /s ( I am just kidding you and mean absolutely no offense... I love to read your reports.

Meanwhile, the SUN has been in a quiet period - very few sunspots at all for months...
That can’t have anything to do with Earth being colder, I’m sure...
