Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) took a swipe Tuesday at GOP senators who have criticized him during the presidential campaign, saying they are not the most respected members of the United States Senate.
McCain, who is the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination heading into the Super Tuesday primaries, was referring to comments made by five-term Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran and former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.).
The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine, Cochran had told The Boston Globe after his endorsement of McCains main rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.
Santorum, another Romney supporter, has also raised McCains temper as a reason not to support him.
The Arizona senator hit back hard at his critics when he was asked about their comments on NBCs Today Show.
And in all due respect to a couple of those people that are criticizing me, theyre not the most respected members of the United States Senate, to be honest with you, McCain said, noting that he has a lot of support among his colleagues.
Cochrans office did not immediately respond to a request for comment
Trashing his own party once again.
Pot, kettle, black.
McCain’s temper and mental stability will be THE issues the Dems will use against him in the election.
McHubris
McCain’s kind of like islamic people that get violent when you say they are violent.
According to John McCain, the most respected man in the Senate is Ted Kennedy.
I can see the bumper stickers now: Vote McCain, Vote Democrat. And these will be put out by the DNC!
Go Fred!
And McCain’s most respected woman is Hillary Clinton.
Senator McCain needs to retire and take care of his health. I feel sorry for him and am afraid he is not real stable. It is time for him to enjoy retirement.
And in all due respect to a couple of those people that are criticizing me, theyre not the most respected members of the United States Senate, to be honest with you,
Ah, but Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid and Hillary Clinton are terrific.

How to make friends and influence people, what a moron.
Seen on FR
McCain is a great conservative when he needs their votes.

Well, other than... John McCain, of course.
This guy is dangerous for us . . . STOP HIM!!! What will it take to get this through Republicans heads?
Yeah....there you McCain. Burn those bridges! You know you need to find a way to TRY and appease YOUR PARTY, this is probably...not it.
Use of the phrase, "to be honest with you" is very often a tip-off that the person is not being truthful.
Santorum is a former colleague. He went down in flames in 2006. He’s entitled to criticize McCain but McCain can return in kind. I see no problem with this.
Cochran and McCain have clashed over spending for years. He endorsed Romney as well. I honestly cannot name a single piece of legislation that Cochran has to his credit. I think the title of “undistinguished” fits him well.
Lately it seems I am a Conservative without a Party!
“They said that about me! How DARE they! Don’t they knew who I am??? I’ll teach them for calling me hotheaded and vindictive! Why, I’ll rip their lungs out!!”
Mccain is such a POS .......who are these idiots voting for his shamnesty presidency ?!?!?!?
Unlike, say, McCain-Feingold (throttling the First Amendment) or McCain-Kennedy (shamnesty)?
Vote McCain. Vote McDemocrat!
I agree but his age will also be an issue, but they will not raise it directly, they have after all TEAM MSM on their side.
Wow. Wonder what he’d say if he were President and someone at the U.N. had a criticism of him.....
Hmmm.
I really like the guy personally. I do not, do NOT want to see him become POTUS.
????..whats new?
Blow it out your McCain, John!
Just wait McCain. You’ll get your comeuppance in November with the biggest Dem win in decades. I’ve accepted it and will be laughing all the way through 2012. We’ll see how many collegial Senate hacks like you then as they fight for their political lives.
But they could have simply said, "QED."
I agree, McCain needs to retire and care for himself. O’Reilly has said McCain can run rings around him, but then O’Reilly seems to “subtly” indicate he’s for McCain, though he would NEVER endorse anyone.
McCain hates conservative, Republican Senators. He will work hard with Democrats to beat his Republican enemies.
And rightly so. But the powers-that-be will use that only far enough for McCain to lose the Presidential race, not enough to make him lose a Senate seat or a 'rat-admin cabinet post.
Mr. niteowl77

McCain is a GREAT conservative, when he needs their votes.
When all is said and done, McCain will still just be a Senator from Arizona...he’ll never sniff the Oval Office. Once he’s all but destroyed the Republican Party...he’ll then quit the Senate because the Dems will run over him like a gooey bug under a Mack truck.
McCain is trashing the opposition party. He is a liberal Democrat.
And Cochran was being nice!
No class. And I’ll explain —
Just suppose, for the sake of argument, that Thad Cochran and Rick Santorum are big, dumb jerks who dislike McCain for all the WRONG reasons. Suppose further that it were true that both men are poorly-regarded Senators (although I have no idea how THAT would be determined objectively). Hypothetically, OK?
EVEN IF SO, a CLASSY guy would respond to such challenges with,
“Well, [name of interviewer], they’re good men, too, and I sure wish I could have EVERYone’s support. But I’ve made mistakes and learned from them. I hope that, should I be fortunate enough to win my party’s nomination, I will be able to win back their support, unite this nation and win in November.”
THAT would be classy.
Is “classy” a requirement for President? Hell, no. But it sure helps win (general) elections ... and wasn’t McCain supposed to be the Electable One (tm)?
I’ll bet the Dems and the press know his hot buttons If he’s our candidate during the general election they are going to be pushing them early, often and hard. The smarmy little senator will go into meltdown and lose all 50 states!!!
Footsoldier in the Reagan Revolution my a$$
Nice of him to bring the party together. Interesting approach though, trashing sitting Senators of his own party.
That dementia and temper are kicking in.
Has he released any health records???
I would like to know exactly what meds he it taking and for what.
And also truthful.
