Barack Obama Running on his Religion
American Thinker ^ | February 05, 2008 | Thomas Lifson

Posted on 02/05/2008 2:36:19 PM PST by neverdem

During his triumphant campaign in South Carolina, Barack Obama distributed a flyer in which he announced the spiritual dimension of his mission, running as a "committed Christian." This caused a certain amount of consternation on the secular left.

It was a remarkable move, perhaps born of a desire to refute rumors that Obama is a Muslim. But by publishing and distributing the pamphlet, Barack Obama officially placed his religion in the political sphere, and highlighted the importance of understanding the particular brand of Christianity he practices.

Obama 1
Barack Obama was not raised as practicing Christian, and in the pamphlet, he draws on a speech he gave last June, in which he identifies Pastor Jeremiah Wright, Jr. as the man who "introduced" him to Jesus Christ. Barack Obama in the past has openly spoken of his respect and attachment to Pastor Wright, getting married by him in his church and calling him his "spiritual mentor" offering many other signs of respect.

In his writings and sermons, Pastor Wright has left a trail of evidence that paint a picture of a radical activist, a man practicing a version of liberation theology, in which Jesus is not seen simply as a redeemer, but as a liberator of the oppressed. The portrait painted in Wright's own words by John Perazzo at Front Page Magazine depicts a deeply radical man, convinced that racism is endemic in America,

"Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!... We [Americans] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God."
His views on capitalism are, if anything, even less benign:

"Capitalism as made manifest in the 'New World,'" says Wright, "depended upon slave labor (by African slaves), and it is only maintained by keeping the 'Two-Thirds World' under oppression."

Wright's associations with Rev. Louis Farrakhan add to the picture of a radical far out of the mainstream.Obama 3

Now consider Barack Obama's own words about how he became to be a Christian, and in what context:

It's around that time that some pastors I was working with came around and asked if I was a member of a church. "If you're organizing churches," they said, "it might be helpful if you went to a church once in a awhile. And I thought, "I guess that makes sense."

"That time" refers to his work as a "community organizer" for the Developing Communities Project (DCP) of the Calumet Community Religious Conference (CCRC) in Chicago. As Kyle-Anne Shiver wrote on AT:

Both the CCRC and the DCP were built on the Alinsky model of community agitation, wherein paid organizers learned how to "rub raw the sores of discontent," in Alinsky's words.

Alinsky instructed his followers in the art of using churches as bases for social activism.

So one Sunday, I put on one of the few clean jackets I had, and went over to Trinity United Church of Christ on 95th Street on the South Side of Chicago. And I heard obama 2Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright deliver a sermon called "The Audacity of Hope." And during the course of that sermon, he introduced me to someone named Jesus Christ. I learned that my sins could be redeemed. I learned that those things I was too weak to accomplish myself, He would accomplish with me if I placed my trust in Him. And in time, I came to see faith as more than just a comfort to the weary or a hedge against death, but rather as an active, palpable agent in the world and in my own life.

It was because of these newfound understandings that I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity one day and affirm my Christian faith. It came about as a choice, and not an epiphany. I didn't fall out in church, as folks sometimes do. The questions I had didn't magically disappear. The skeptical bent of my mind didn't suddenly vanish. But kneeling beneath that cross on the South Side, I felt I heard God's spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to His will, and dedicated myself to discovering His truth and carrying out His works.

The words "newfound understandings" leap out at me. The level of generality at which Obama speaks here permits a wide variety of interpretations. But these words are not inconsistent with coming to understand Jesus as an agent of peaceful revolutionary change, and seeing His truth in the sort of light cast by liberation theology.
obama 4
Now that candidate Obama is openly running on the basis of his newfound understandings, I believe that he should answer questions about what they are, precisely. These new understandings  appear to have played a central role in his choice to seek power, which makes them a topic of legitimate interest by the electorate. And his long and deep association with Pastor Wright, which he has touted as part of his campiagn, raises serious questions about Barack Obama's true views.

Why is it that religion is an asset to a Democrat but a liability to a Republican? Could it be the way the MSM spins it?

Barack Obama is a member of a church that has a value statement that makes it quite clear that Obama's religion is " Black Nationalsim."

Obama worships Huey Newton, not Jehovah.

His religion pamphlet is all a sham.

Now the Big Guy is gonna zap Obama, the thunder clouds are gathering.

May he soon be reduced to toast.

Politicians who use God, but also represent those values through actions and in their personal life such as Huckabee people can accept. Those who use this as nothing more than a “slogan” but are pro-choice and pro-gay rights are disingenuous.

Be it, know it, do it. If you just talk the talk like he is, it’s an insult to those who do believe in this. No one expects anyone to be perfect. We live in a fallen world and Christians know this. But those who advocate ideas that run against the most basic core principals of what define Christianity should not use God in their campaign. If he wants the NMBLA and NOW vote, he should not put on this charade as one who believes in Christian principals.

I find it interesting that Obama and the church he belongs to uses preachings to promote a political ideology, more than practicing the religion itself.

Reminds me of another political ideology veiled behind a religious front.......hummmm.....what is the name of that again...????

Obama is a member of the United Church of Christ (UCC). This branch was formed when Congregationalism split in the 1950s. This church is far left and in addition to the Black Nationalism cited here also promotes favored causes such as feminism and gay rights. Other than the causes mentioned there really is no discernible Christian doctrine. UCCers basically believe that any and all are welcome and may bring any belief system they may have with them. I know about this because I was raised in this church. In recent years membership has declined rapidly because of the church’s lack of conviction. After knowing many people who attend churches in this denomination, it is my estimate that the vast majority do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ. Obama may have joined in order to list church membership on his resume. Others belong to promote pet causes or just because they were raised in the church. Almost all are liberal democRATS.

“UCCers basically believe that any and all are welcome and may bring any belief system they may have with them. “

Black Value System, which is a code of non-Biblical ethics written by blacks, for blacks.

It encourages blacks to group together and separate from the larger American society by pooling their money, patronizing black-only businesses and backing black leaders. Such racial separatism is strangely at odds with the media’s portrayal of Obama as a uniter who reaches across races.

The code also warns blacks to avoid the white “entrapment of black middle-classness,” suggesting that settling for that kind of “competitive” success will rob blacks of their African identity and keep them “captive” to white culture.

In short, Obama’s “unashamedly black” church preaches the politics of black nationalism. And its dashiki-wearing preacher — who married Obama and his wife and now acts as his personal spiritual adviser — is militantly Afrocentric. “We are an African people,” the Rev. Jeremiah Wright reminds his flock, “and remain true to our native land, the mother continent.”

Some contemporary Muslim voices on Jesus

Yasser Arafat, addressing a press conference at the United Nations in 1983 called Jesus “the first Palestinian fedayeen who carried his sword” (i.e. he was a freedom fighter for Islam).

Sheikh Ibrahim Madhi, employee of the Palestinian Authority, broadcast live in April 2002 on Palestinian Authority television: “The Jews await the false Jewish messiah, while we await, with Allah’s help... Jesus, peace be upon him. Jesus’s pure hands will murder the false Jewish messiah. Where? In the city of Lod, in Palestine.”

Author Shamim A. Siddiqi of Flushing, New York put the classical position of Islam towards Christianity clearly in a recent letter to Daniel Pipes, New York Post columnist:

“Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad were all prophets of Islam. Islam is the common heritage of the Judeo-Christian-Muslim community of America, and establishing the Kingdom of God is the joint responsibility of all three Abrahamic faiths. Islam was the din (faith, way of life) of both Jews and Christians, who later lost it through human innovations. Now the Muslims want to remind their Jewish and Christian brothers and sisters of their original din [religion]. These are the facts of history.”

This historical negationism — appearing to affirm Christianity and Judaism whilst in fact rejecting and supplanting them — is a lynchpin of Muslim apologetics. What is being affirmed is in fact neither Christianity nor Judaism, but Jesus as a prophet of Islam, Moses as a Muslim etc. This is intended to lead to ‘reversion’ of Christians and Jews to Islam, which is what Siddiqi refers to when he speaks of ‘the joint responsibility’ of Jews and Christians to establish ‘the Kingdom of God’. By this he means that American Christians and Jews should work to establish shari’ah law and the rule of Islam in the United States.

Conclusion

‘Isa (Jesus) of the Qur’an is a product of fable, imagination and ignorance. When Muslims venerate this ‘Isa, they have someone different in mind from the Yeshua or Jesus of the Bible and of history. The ‘Isa of the Qur’an is based on no recognized form of historical evidence, but on fables current in seventh century Arabia.

For most faithful Muslims ‘Isa is the only Jesus they know. But if one accepts this Muslim ‘Jesus’, then one also accepts the Qur’an: one accepts Islam. Belief in this ‘Isa is won at the cost of the libel that Jews and Christians have corrupted their scriptures, a charge that is without historical support. Belief in this ‘Isa implies that much of Christian and Jewish history is in fact Islamic history.

The Jesus of the gospels is the base upon which Christianity developed. By Islamicizing him, and making of him a Muslim prophet who preached the Qur’an, Islam destroys Christianity and takes over all its history. It does the same to Judaism.

In the end times as described by Muhammad, ‘Isa becomes a warrior who will return with his sword and lance. He will destroy the Christian religion and make Islam the only religion in all the world. Finally at the last judgement he will condemn Christians to hell for believing in the crucifixion and the incarnation.

This final act of the Muslim ‘Isa reflects Islam’s apologetic strategy in relation to Christianity, which is to deny the Yeshua of history, and replace him with a facsimile of Muhammad, so that nothing remains but Islam.

“The Muslim supersessionist current claims that the whole biblical history of Israel and Christianity is Islamic history, that all the Prophets, Kings of Israel and Judea, and Jesus were Muslims. That the People of the Book should dare to challenge this statement is intolerable arrogance for an Islamic theologian. Jews and Christians are thus deprived of their Holy Scriptures and of their salvific value.”

I hardly regard Obama’s Church and Minister as “Christian” in their Afro-Centric Racist positions — and their naming of Farrakhan as their “Man of the Year”....

If the RNC doesn’t go after the lack of any commendable background and the vast array of very questionable background — the Nation will be ill served for fear of violating insane P.C. rules which spook folks into ignoring that which is right before them: Incompetence and black racism...

NO ONE has asked Obama what SPECIFIC “changes” he’s hawking and HOW he will implement them....

The man is an empty suit -— promising the sleeves out of his vest and wanting to take your entire suit...

When Obama first undertook his agitating work in Chicago's South Side poor neighborhoods, he was un-churched. Yet his office was in a Church and most of the folks he needed to agitate and organize were Church people -- pastors and congregants -- who took their churches and their church-going very seriously. So, this became a problem for the young agnostic, who had been exposed to very little religion in his life. Again and again, he was asked by pastors and church ladies, "Where do you go to Church, young man?" It was a question he dodged for a while, but finally he relented and joined a church.

Not just any church, but a huge black nationalist church with a pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who unabashedly preaches a "black" gospel. Rolling Stone Magazine ran with a story on Obama and his church, entitled, "Destiny's Child," which included this exert from one of Rev. Wright's sermons:

"Fact number one: We've got more black men in prison than there are in college," he intones.

"Fact number two: Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!"

"We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns and the training of professional KILLERS. . . . We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God. . . . We conducted radiation experiments on our own people. . . . We care nothing about human life if the ends justify the means!"

The crowd whoops and amens as Wright builds to his climax: "And. And. And! GAWD! Has GOT! To be SICK! OF THIS S**T!"

This doesn't sound like any church in which I've ever worshipped, but perhaps I have led a sheltered life. Reverend Wright, whom Obama called his spiritual mentor and still claims is his sounding board, has taken trips abroad with none other than Louis Farrakhan. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan received the "Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright,Jr. Lifetime Achievement Trumpeteer" Award at the 2007 Trumpet Gala at the the United Church of Christ. Wright was even reported to be a former Muslim. One might be led to wonder if this "church" isn't all it makes itself out to be.

Obama may have joined in order to list church membership on his resume. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jehovah does not countenance such fools without devine retribution. Its only a matter of time. As you know, the Bible (OT) is full of it, for how many kings and nations did the good Lord destroy who got up to the same jumped up foolishness Obama is now selling? Many , its a very long list. On top of it all Obama is pretty much anti- Israel. I expect a lightning bolt up his butt just about any day now!

LOL.

Black Value System, which is a code of non-Biblical ethics written by blacks, for blacks.>>>>>>>>>>>>. Black National American politics worked real well in Kenya. Worked real well, burned a church full of Kikuyu Christians. Yup, the Obama doctrine so far has been quite wonderful in Kenya. What will we do when he gets on to that jumped up shite here in America?

I say we should not give him the chance.

Meanwhile the MSM has turned its face and eyes away from Kenya, like the all pervading eye of Sauron in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.LOL.

We hobbits here in the shire have our work cut out for us.

Thanks for this link. I recently read similar points and was(foolishly) astounded by the lack of media attention to the very serious issue highlighted in this article.

Mr. Obama is a member of a Church whose leader preaches ‘we are an African people...and ...remain true to our native land, the mother continent’. Thus, I believe it is valid to ask Mr. Obama not only about the above but also about some of the comments in his own book regarding black and white peoples.

It would be truly wonderful to hear ALL candidates pledge to dispense with using hypenated nationalities. Perhaps if our Officials and media would stop referring to Asian-Americans, African-American, Irish-Americans but, rather, just use AMERICANS....which is what we ARE and should be...perhaps, we can then address ISSUES to make America a better place for ALL. well...i can dream....

This doesn't sound like any church in which I've ever worshipped,>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Its liberal socialist, black nationalist fascism in its birthing stages. Its buoyed by liberal prognostications of "tolerance," using the social mechanism of political correctness. Criticize Obama on his merits and you become a "racist." What a laugh. If Obama were a white boy, he would be laughed out of every town he visits. I unabashedly , on Obama's merits, call it the Mandingo ( from the novel by that name) Effect.

If Obama becomes president, you can bet there will be civil disorder in America, with guns in the streets, just like Kenya. But Americans don't use machetes. Obama will have absolutely no hesitation to use federal police and even our military against American citizens who resist his policies to build a black nationalist Utopia.

I wish Colin Powell had offered to run. Theres a man with his ducks in a row. He would make Obama look like a tiny tot.

Great Picture, of two black nationalists ridiculing a true American.

Both of them are clowns about to create their own three ring circus in American politics.

Bring in the clowns!

Fascist clowns at that.

Why is Islam giving him a pass when they try murdering anyone else who breaks free from its clutches?

In his first memoir, "Dreams," Obama included a description of black student life at Occidental College in Los Angeles.

"There were enough of us on campus to constitute a tribe, and when it came to hanging out many of us chose to function like a tribe, staying close together, traveling in packs," he wrote. "It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names." He added: "To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists." While at Columbia, he went to the Marxist-Socialist conferences at Cooper Union and African cultural fairs in Brooklyn and started lecturing his relatives until they worried he'd become "one of those freaks you see on the streets around here."

Barack Obama was not raised as practicing Christian

That's because he was practicing Islam.

Statements of his teachers and fellow students document this fact and he can't run from it or lie about it.

Yes, and there is no doubt he is considered a Muslim by Radical Islam.

They would definitely put the screws to him if he is elected President.
