AP Confirms Secret Camp Inside Gitmo

AP Confirms Secret Camp Inside Gitmo Feb 6 05:15 PM US/Eastern By ANDREW O. SELSKY Associated Press Writer GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba (AP) - Somewhere amid the cactus-studded hills on this sprawling Navy base, separate from the cells where hundreds of men suspected of links to al-Qaida and the Taliban have been locked up for years, is a place even more closely guarded—a jailhouse so protected that its very location is top secret.

For the first time, the top commander of detention operations at Guantanamo has confirmed the existence of the mysterious Camp 7. In an interview with The Associated Press, Rear Adm. Mark Buzby also provided a few details about the maximum-security lockup.

Guantanamo commanders said Camp 7 is for key alleged al-Qaida members, who must be kept apart from other prisoners to prevent them from retaliating against long-term detainees who have talked to interrogators. They also want the location kept secret for fear of terrorist attack.

Many operations have been classified since the detention center opened in January 2002 in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. More than four years passed before the military released even the names of detainees held on this 45-square- mile base in southeast Cuba—and it did so only after the AP filed a Freedom of Information Act request.

Detainees have been held in Camp Echo and Camps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Journalists cleared by the military have been allowed to tour some of these lockups, where 260 men are held, but aren't allowed to speak to detainees. Some lawmakers and other VIPs have passed through, and the International Red Cross has access, on the condition that no details about its visits with detainees be made public.

If this is true, what purpose does it serve to write about it? I long ago quit wondering on whose side the AP was fighting, but this is just another reminder of the traitors and Fifth Columnists in the Forth Estate.

The media has people embedded with the so called insurgents who never see fit to disclose the secrets they observe.

They call it being “impartial”.

They are decidedly anti-US when it comes to revealing our own secrets.

It is called treason and is a crime in our Constitution.

If we are allowing our military to talk about “camp 7” it is only because we have already moved anyone or anything of importance to a different location.

Agreed...and this sort of reporting would’ve never been tolerated during WW2, for example.

Then let them go crazy trying to "find" number 3

Misinformation!

Notice that it is the HEAD of the GITMO Prison system that is releasing this information -- this means that we no longer care if the location is known. IOW, we have all the info we are going to get from the 15, or they have been moved somewhere else.

HELLO!!!! THIS WAS NOT A LEAK!!!!! THIS WAS AN INTERVIEW WITH THE ADMIRAL IN CHARGE OF THE PRISON!

He confirmed the location because there is apparently no reason or need to deny its existance.

It goes back farther than that. Airborne divisions in WWII were numbered 11, 13, 17, 82 and 101 to mislead the enemy into thinking we had a whole bunch.

If you scan DUh threads, they want Gitmo to remain open to house Republicans from the Bush II era.

Remember that John McCain wants to close Gitmo and bring the terrorists to the US

Thats all we need...a terrorist prison break on US soil. That national security guru....Juan McAztlan

The best thing about Gitmo is that terrorists arent keen on escaping into cuba.....the living is better in Gitmo than in Cuba (something the libs will never admit to)

As for leaks from the Admin...remember that select Senate and House members have some of this secret info...and dont be surprised a lib inside there released this

Did not know that...

Where I got it was from an email about a high school prank in Tennessee, where the seniors let loose three goats in the school, with signs 1, 2, and 4.

The administrators spent all day looking for number 3.

But Camp 7, where 15 "high-value detainees" are held, is so secret that its very existence was not publicly known until it was mentioned in December by attorneys for Majid Khan, a former Baltimore resident who allegedly plotted to bomb gas stations in the United States. Previously, many observers believed the 15 were being held in Camps 5 or 6, which are maximum-security facilities.

Okay class.  Does anyone have a question why the U.S. should not allow terrorists to have visits from attornies, or be allowed to fight procedings in court?

So many secrets would spill out in the process, it would be devistating to our efforts to disrupt and put an end to terrorism.

These attornies should be prosecuted for divulging top secret information.

Yes I did -- the location was revealed by some scumbags lawyer, the AP asked about it and Adm Buzby gave an INTERVIEW.

No leak, ne conspiracy to undermine the military, no nefarious plot by the AP - They asked, he answered.

After 24 years in the AF, 14 in and around the intel world, I can safely say that if an ADM is answering questions it is because the location of the prison is no longer important.

OK, since you know all about this stuff, where do you think they are now? Are they just sitting there waiting to be rescued by their AQ buddies? Have they been moved to a super-duper-secret Camp 8? Or perhaps one of those cabanas at the Beverly Hills Hotel? Did we kill them, burn the corpses and dump the ashes in Guantanamo Bay? So why is their location no longer important?

I read in the WSJ that the testimony in the water boarding investigation has proven once and for all that the torture meta narrative was just that a meta narrative. So, it only figures that the left will have to come up with another issue to prove that the Bush administration has not managed the national security properly.

The sworn testimony indicated that the water boarding was done only to three high level Al Qaeda captives, one of whom claimed to have personally beheaded Daniel Pearl, and resulted in very important information which may have prevented a second attack on the US.

Further more, top congressional leaders knew about the waterboarding before it happened, including Jay Rockefeller and Nancy Pelosi.

My question is, what did McCain know and when did he know it?

So why is their location no longer important?

Not THIER location, the location of the CAMP is no longer important

It could be many reasons. The top being:

1. The prisoners are no longer there

2. The Prisoners are no longer "high value", IE we have all the information we want out of them

3. We are tweaking the jihadi's noses, or baiting them for some reason

If they have been moved, I have no idea where, will not speculate where, and am not interested where.
