Jail politicians who ignore climate science: Suzuki

Didn't mean it literally says scientist's spokesperson

David Suzuki has called for political leaders to be thrown in jail for ignoring the science behind climate change.

At a Montreal conference last Thursday, the prominent scientist, broadcaster and Order of Canada recipient exhorted a packed house of 600 to hold politicians legally accountable for what he called an intergenerational crime. Though a spokesman said yesterday the call for imprisonment was not meant to be taken literally, Dr. Suzuki reportedly made similar remarks in an address at the University of Toronto last month.

The proposal has lit up many conservative blogs since it was first reported by the McGill Daily on Monday.

Addressing the McGill Business Conference on Sustainability, hosted by the Faculty of Management, Dr. Suzuki's wide-ranging speech warned against favouring the economy to the detriment of the ecology -- the tarsands in Northern Alberta being his prime example.

"You have lived your entire lives in a completely unsustainable period," he told students and fans. "You all think growth and [climate] change is normal. It's not."

Toward the end of his speech, Dr. Suzuki said that "we can no longer tolerate what's going on in Ottawa and Edmonton" and then encouraged attendees to hold politicians to a greater green standard.

"What I would challenge you to do is to put a lot of effort into trying to see whether there's a legal way of throwing our so-called leaders into jail because what they're doing is a criminal act," said Dr. Suzuki, a former board member of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.

"It's an intergenerational crime in the face of all the knowledge and science from over 20 years."

The statement elicited rounds of applause.

Environmentalists really don’t want to go there. Just for starters, the death toll resulting from the DDT ban makes Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin look like two naughty little boys who should be slapped firmly on the wrist and sent to bed without dessert.

What BS. 10,000 years ago, the spot where this little fascist was standing when he said that was under a 1000 feet of ice.

And then, something made the ice melt. It's called climate change.

Unfortunately there is no logical reasoning with these people. They are hysterical about global warming. They can’t have a reasonable discussion about the pros and cons of the DDT ban. They are incapable of the intellectual give and take, or thinking things through. They are simple minded about all of this.

I heard somebody say that Al Gore is the Pope of the Church of Global Warming. He is just so full of himself being the leader of this movement to “save the planet” and all that. Heck the career politician in him didn’t want to run for president again, he’s having too much fun with global warming and getting honors like the Nobel Peace Prize.

When the media wants you to agree with someone unquestioningly, they call him a "scientist." I just looked, and sure enough, Suzuki's degree is NOT in climatology but zoology. His credentials on this are about as strong as Al Gore's.

Actually that was 1 of the huge problems with all those claims about how much “scientific” support there is.

1 of the problems being exactly the Clintonian smoke&mirrors language: “millions of SCIENTISTS agree”. Well, sure, they’re “scientists”, but they weren’t involved in climatology specifically!

The other problem being they fraudulently included scientists who did NOT sign on.

Environmentalists like this see the human population as the real issue. It isn’t unrealistic to see a jump from “jail politicians” to “kill the people destroying the environment.”

People with totalitarian mindsets are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. Right now, we have ELF burning ski resorts and car dealerships. If they gain political power, the same people will be establishing re-education camps and filling mass graves.
