Cheney predicts GOP will win presidency
AP/Kansas City Star ^ | February 07, 2008 | TOM RAUM

Vice President Dick Cheney predicted Thursday that the next president would be a Republican but steered clear of commenting on John McCain's front-runner status or efforts by some conservative activists to deny him the GOP nomination.

A kingdom for Cheney entering the race. Cheney/Bolton or Cheney/Pace would clean up the place!

Doubtfull. He’s only saying what virtually any GOP VP would say no matter how bad it looks.

Cheney is living in a dream world. Any GOP participation in the 2008 Presidential elections is "token" at this.

The GOP has better prospects than it otherwise would have because the Dems are badly split and appear to be headed for a nomination decided by SuperDelegates. Most likely it will be Hillary narrowly beating out Obama, EVEN THOUGH Obama will go into the convention with more "regular" delegates. If Hillary wins the nomination in THAT manner, the GOP benefits because many Obama supporters will not thereafter support Hillary. McCain needs to pick an excellent VP nominee, too.

A Cheney/Thompson ticket would be the most uniting GOP ticket. People mention Cheney’s age and health, but Thompson or McCain aren’t younger or fitter either. I know Cheney declined already a run in 2008, but it would be so sweet.

I don’t think McCain will even take Arizona. Democrats will sweep the congressional races also unless a good independent conservative candidate runs against the two liberal parties and can motivate conservatives to show up on election day.

Absolutely correct IMO. I’ve been boring my wife for months now by repeatedly saying, “I can’t believe Hillary hasn’t offered, AND Obama hasn’t accepted, a HillObama ticket.” End the intra-Democrat bloodbath (and waste of money) and save their money/ energy for McCain. Seems obvious to me, but either Hillary hasn’t offered or Obama hasn’t accepted (yet), or both.

Folks, Cheney is saying GOP will win, notice he did not say McCain will win.

This race is still not a lock on McCain, no matter what the RNC is attempting to say.

Both Thompson and Romney have merely suspended their races, NOT withdrawn and thrown their supporters to McCain, ala Guiliani.

McCain still NEEDS to meet the necessary delegates to lock the nomination OR we go to an OPEN Convention and ANYONE may win from there not the hand-picked liberal by the RNC!

Smells pretty bad from here. The least McCain could do is pick a Conservative with a chance in the South, Romney is neither.

McCain is going to have his ass handed to him soundly.

Dems are jazzed and going to the polls in record numbers.

Conservative republicans are demoralized and many will stay home, vote third party, or write it their favorite candidate.

It’s as good as done.

Obama will win the rats popular vote, but Hillary will win the final delegate vote.

With Hillary’s view of the Electoral College well known, I’m sure in fairness she will release all her super delegates to the national popular vote winner giving Obama the nomination and proudly become the 2nd woman major VP candidate and hope to move into Dick Cheney’s house.

Barbour might take it. If he thought he could help the country, Thompson might, but I doubt it. Huckabee doesn’t help him on FR, but might in the “real world.” I’m sure there are others I will neglect to mention, but those three are fresh on my mind.

I disagree. John McCain is not able to overcome either Hillary or Obama.

If Obama is the Dem nominee. the people out there will be choosing hope vs. the cranky, ancient fart.

If Clinton is the nominee, she will make mincemeat out of McQueeg. The woman will win out vs. the cranky old fart.

If Clinton is the nominee, and picks Obama as her VP, McLooney will be lucky if he wins Arizona.
He will get steamrolled in the general.

I suggest you step back from the Kool Aid and get realistic. The GOP just mortally wounded itself and this campaign. This way, you won’t be so disappointed on November 5th.

The anti Bush, anti Republican sentiment out there is palpable. Only Romney could have overcome the bias. You can wrap up McQueeg any which way you want to, but the American people are NOT going to choose him over Hillary or Obama.

And the GOP will be a minority party for decades.

The best thing now is to vote for Republican Senators and Congressman to counter the Dem president.

If the GOP screws that up,a new party will be formed next year, and after a 152 year run, the GOP will go the way of the Whigs, and a new Conservative party will be born.

If you doubt what I am saying , think of it like this:

We have the greatest threat to the Republic since the Civil War in Hillary, and the GOP runs McAmnesty against her? How serious do you think your GOP masters really are?
