I'm not advocating going to the LP, but I am saying that perhaps we should start adopting some of their liberty principles. And if we absolutely must want our agendas addressed by legislation, better to take care of it a the most local level of government possible rather than instinctively fill the desire to adopt things nationally.
Rant over.
Funny, the only time anyone pays attention to the libertarians is when they do silly stunts like this, or when they run as Republicans.
If only they could get a single Libertarian elected to any office, they might be in the position to gloat.
Bernie Saunders did it for the Socialists in VT. Can't the Libertarians pull it off somewhere in the West?
It's funny because the Libertarians can't do any actually governing themselves, but prefer to whine and moan about the Republicans instead. Why don't they go bother the Democrats?
Appropriate.
Will also help to prepare the RNC for all the condolence wreaths they’re going to be swamped with in November.
awesome!!
thats just funny.
Priceless,,, simply priceless
I was almost interested for a second or two. Then I realized they don’t have a potus candidate, and they want us to pull out of the WOT.
“Funny, the only time anyone pays attention to the libertarians is when they do silly stunts like this, or when they run as Republicans.”
Not true, there are many influential Libertarians. Many more have core Libertarian values, but have other party affiliations.
My only problem with the Libertarian Party platform is its stance on Iraq and the WoT. The Republican party had looked like a reasonable alternative, but the expansion of government and free spending policies have been a joke. McCain, if nothing else, looks like more of the same in that department. In at least this one very important area this election shows the failings of the two party system.
More people need to wake up and realize that freedom really is not free, and that right now there’s no effective check on government growing ever more intrusive, onerous, and expensive. Meanwhile, American business is hamstrung and large numbers of companies operate offshore, hurting our economy and making us dependent on foreign countries for even critical military components. Not to mention the massive debt that’s piling up...
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” - Ben Franklin
“From time to time, the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots.” - Thomas Jefferson
Headstone to follow the November election.
That wreath arrived about 8 years too late.
Good analysis. The GOP has lost a lot of its respect and value for individual liberty
Funny thing from the LP. Although the LP has good ideas...their support for open borders and illegal aliens is anathema to American liberty...I think the Constitution Party probably addresses better individual liberty without loss of soverignty
The libertarians, like so many other organizations, have been infiltrated by the Marxists.
The libertarian’s idiotic stance against going after the terrorists after 9-11 was straight out of the appeasement platform of the Marxist party.
One of the primary tenets of the libertarian party, or at least it was until the Chamberlains took over, was self defense. You get attacked, you go kick ass. Period. No debate needed, other than how hard to kick butt and how many butts.
Back in 2002 when so-called libertarians started running screeds from various Marxists, including that bozo America-hating linguist from Yale (can’t think of his name), I knew the libertarian party was cooked.

I’m in agreement with the LP on many issues, and I also agree with their assessment that the Republicans and Democrats merely represent slightly different flavors of Big Government philosophy, but seriously, they should grow up.

Holy cow, if it was Chomsky.....the LP really jumped the fence over to the Marxist side. Ouch. Double Ouch
There needs to be a viable third party to rise from the ashes that is now th GOP (perhaps the Constitution Party)...but it is NOT going to be the Libertatian Party.
Every party is going to have some of those, and I doubt they are even in the majority in the Libertarian Party, but the party is going to need a higher percentage of rational people before it will get taken seriously.
Maybe that will happen since the Republican Party keeps failing what used to be its base over and over again.
VERY FITTING!
They don't get elected because they don't pander to the constituency that wants hard-working Americans to underwrite the sloth and slough that has become a large majority of the electorate.
And that's the age-old problem. Let's face it, the GOP has fallen under the reality of needing to buy votes in order to survive. George Bush has been teaching them how. It's a short jump from buying votes to believing leftist-liberal policies are "good for the country," when the real translation of that is, "good for my incumbency."
Feh.
